  1. Honestly The real answer is I don't know for sure as I was under the impression that he/the club was bound under the old Bond remit of £15k not the new one you have quoted above; however and I don't know how true this is; I was told that he was losing around £5k over a pair of meetings home and away, So if that figure is correct that means he was still going to lose another £42.5k approximately to the end of the season with the 11 league matches he had left and then there was the 3 + 3 summer trophy meetings to do; so 17 meetings in total. Therefore if the Bond was £50k he has in effect lost another £7.5k by folding the club now and not completing the meetings; because he could have got his Bond back at the end of the season if he pulled out then... but if my guess is correct and he only has a £15k Bond to lose that means he actually saves around £27.5k by not running the meetings... makes perfect sense to do what he has done to be fair.... although finding another £30/40k in the grand scheme of things to run to the end of the season and not be branded "JER the Mug" could and would have been found if he had reached out AGAIN... after all... he wasn't shy last season was he? However @KEITH M has made some very valid and salient points which I wont go over "per se" but the questions he puts forward are "where has all the cash gone"? as described by Keith... the big sponsorship deal boasted about; the big meetings that drew in bumper crowds last season (Birmingham over £22k admission alone before food and special deals upstairs were factored in)... makes you wonder because the fans done their part for sure... makes me wonder anyway... I put the link up below a few months back and not one of the "Gob Chites" the "Bar Room Accountants" who tried to defend the previous showers total disregard of the VAT laws by stating "as fact" every possible scenario they could to defend the indefensible... has had any comment on the "01 Jul 2021 Micro company accounts made up to 30 November 2020" entry; not one of them... which make fantastic reading by the way; and I for one can't wait to see what comes out on the 01 Jul 2022; Micro company accounts made up to the 30 November 2021; not long now... and then of course the 01 Jul 2023 Micro company accounts made up to 30 November 2022.... what a bed time read they will make... https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/12324842/filing-history It was all over when he picked the team he did... he wanted to bring his old BFF Stoke pal back (which he tried to do the first year and was told it would be a disaster) because he had a low average and would be a steal and 10 year ago had an average over 7... so what; and again James Wright had a long time out and he hasn't set the world on fire since coming back and it also took him a while to settle in... JER couldn't negotiate a deal if his life depended on it... Even the "die hard" diamonds gave him a chance (and the fans have been superb by the way) however after watching the team in the Stoke challenge match they knew it would be a long hard season... JER must have flipped a couple of burgers over his eyes because everyone knew and could see what was happening but that clown... Since coming back in 2009 I have pumped over £110k into the spot in sponsorship which to be fair isn't a great deal in the overall scheme of things but its a hefty enough investment not to feel devastated at the position we now find ourselves at... and I thought by not attending this season that I wouldn't feel to bad if the club did go "Pop" but to be Totally Honest; "I am absolutely gutted" that it has ended up like this after all the "Billy Big Balls" talk of how easy it was going to be to run a Speedway Team and then to just pull the plug and walk away... To all the Diamonds fans I am really sorry that we are in this situation because you have tried and you have supported some pretty useless individuals over recent times and I feel sorry for Dave Tinning who is on holiday at the moment and totally blameless in this fiasco... I hope this hasn't ruined your break too much buddy... lets see what next year brings because JER states he is pulling out now to give someone else the opportunity next year... I will save my thoughts on the reasoning behind that "little Gem" for a future post... Regards John Oh and as a footnote to @proud panther Buddy if you had burger trailers for 10 years, and they wouldn't earn you enough to subsidise a Speedway business, your sellers were stealing off you marra; because if you run 10 burger vans properly you could subsidise the national debt never mind a Speedway team... trust me... 3. The late call off didn’t just cost Newcastle it cost Plymouth as well programmes all printed now useless, food ordered now can’t be used ie pasties and the like paramedics private company used I believe they would need paying so how much has our promoter lost out he’s maintained a dignified silence but if it was me I’d be raging.

  5. Good luck everyone for tomorrow and the rest of the season. You've put a very interesting and entertaining package of events together again, well done to you all.

  6. This is all aspirational though, AEPG have many hurdles to overcome to get what they want, which will be as many houses as possible and locals know only to well how slow the planning process is in Peterborough. Even with 1600 houses which will result in 4500 to 5000 people and probably 3000 cars, good luck with finding placements with schools, doctors and dentists, and for sure the roads surrounding the area will not support that increase in traffic, it barely supports it now when major events are held in the Arena alone. I have spoken with the local Green councillor on several occasions, she is extremely supportive of Peterborough Speedway and I opened up communication channels with her and the promotion a while back. The last time I spoke with her she was adamant that the Speedway club be rightly looked after properly and 50 years of heritage be preserved and continued. Whether that happens or not obviously depends on many things. It’s all a bit of a game right now in my opinion, but suffice to say I doubt very much that the plans released yesterday will have very little resemblance to the finished project.

  7. He has only had 18 home meetings in them near couple of years( including a double header), 2 of them were opening meetings of a season so the crowd was “ healthy”, 4 of them were against local rivals Redcar, so the crowd was “healthy “ , 3 or 4 of them meetings he had the begging bowl out, so fans helped him out He allegedly had major sponsors this season and he has hardly had to pay out any points money over the last season and a half and his burger vans have been taking money aswell

  8. Trees I get that you're passionate about your speedway, but when are you going to take your rose tinted specs off?s Whenever someone points out a major issue with the sport or something major happens to further show the extremely poor condition of the sport in this country you always comeback with something along the lines of its always been like that. It hasn't though the sport is now down to having fewer than 100 riders in this country, less than 20000 spectators weekly & no major income from outside. Added to this no strategies to improve the product or entice new comers. You have riders who want to be full-time professionals earning enough money to support themselves from their racing all from a sport who's total home attendances which are less in number than the average away attendance in league one football. Newcastle closing is not only sad for the Newcastle supporters it's also another major blow to speedway in this country. Until people within the sport wake-up & smell the coffee & decide to do something the sport in on a downward spiral towards being no more in the UK.

  11. Plymouth very, very unlucky tonight. Poole made very hard work of grabbing a draw against a 5 man team, at least after heat 6 anyway. Plymouth would’ve won with Palm Toft by a good 4-6 pts if it wasn’t for his crash. Fingers crossed he’s only got away with concussion (as per Mark Phillips when interviewed).

  12. Reading some of the comments on hear it would appear that he has thought he could take the supporters for mugs, made 22k from one meeting when closure was threatened and thought he could put a sub standard team out and the supporters would still turn up in droves because some speedway is better than no speedway and he would be quids in. the simple fact is all he had to do was put a team together that could be competitive at home and decent on their travels and the crowds would have remained as there was a feel good factor at the beginning of the season but that soon disappeared Rob has put his money in and probably lost a lot but to be fair most of that is his own doing

  17. I hope you and associates are successful. One thing the last 10 months have shown me is how easy it is to ‘forget’ speedway. Saturday nights have revolved around Arlington for almost 20 years but with no other speedway in the vicinity, other things have taken its place. I no longer log in to this site or the BSPL to see what’s going on, I have no team to support. When I watch the coverage on Eurosport I can see, as an outsider, what a challenge it is to get folk interested. The meetings are drawn out and take far too long. Sam Ermolenko is not very articulate and for all his experience hopeless at media duties. Kelvin Tatum is brilliant, knowledgable and well spoken but unfortunately he is one man band. Abbi tries hard but overdoes the enthusiasm a little. It really does show that speedway is a spectacle that needs to be experienced live, the sounds, smell and sheer speed cannot be captured on TV. I, for one, will be beating a track to Arlington as soon as you are up and running. Good luck.

  18. He's probably a very good businessman outside Speedway, but his choice of number 1 and the reserves really does question his judgement, when it comes to Speedway, all he had to do was assemble a Team that could finish mid table, and win the majority at home, shouldn't have been that hard, as Newcastle always has had a massive home advantage, they have a good, loyal fan base, who would have supported a half decent Team.

  26. What about the likes of Dave tinning who has put up his hard earned cash you would suspect and a couple of main team sponsors where has all of their funds gone and the reputed 50k investment at the start of the season…..where has that gone

  28. Agree to a certain extent, but he alienated a lot of people who had worked really hard for very little reward from the previous promotion. When he looks at what he could have done better, he might agree with me. on the other hand, he might stay stubborn, & believe I am wrong,

It will need someone with very deep pockets however saying that I don't fully believe JER when he said what he was losing... Like the X Files "The truth is out there"... somewhere... Regards THJ

  45. I had a browse through the British Newspaper Archives, and there are a handful of articles which include the name “Onanoff” Johnson, together with one which refers to him as David “On and off” Johnson, leading Middlesbrough star and their most daredevil rider, who had completed the speedway season unscathed, only to badly break his leg playing football. I noted other nicknames in the few articles I found… Riskit Riley Broadside Burton Skid Skinner - which reminded me of Skid Pitcher! Smoky Stratton Dare-devil Beckett Broncho Dixon and a couple of more well-known ones… Sprouts Elder (James Lloyd Elder) Buster Frogley (Arthur Robert Frogley)

  48. Won over 2 legs ? You're living in the past with regard to the bonus point, which doesn't exist anymore. Here's a further update, there is no such thing as a draw either now. Will agree though, there was very little passing, which is why Fricke got his high score early on as he was gating. Tailed off when he didn't.On the positive side, I enjoyed watching him, with an exciting style. A credit to the Aces, which Zagar wasn't. For the Wolves poor performances from Douglas and Morris, with Becker not being top notch either. Everytime I have seen Brennan I have been reasonably impressed , so why is he still at reserve?

  49. You must have been early cos I was there from about 2 ish til after half 4 and I will be there tomorrow slowing the job up again... Pleased you liked the look of the track and watching that GP in Germany tonight (didn't Dan do well) I could definitely see some similarities between the tracks in size and shape... except ours is better... cos it's in Cumbria UK and not Johnnie Foreigner land...
