  1. Price of petrol just now is prohibitive to make it down unfortunately. Things are that bad I put Vodka in my petrol lawnmower to see if that would work. The grass is half-cut.

  2. Glasgow will secure 2nd place . Plymouth just needed a guest . I think Plymouth are happy to be close to a play off position .

  3. Apart from die hard fans (I don't mean the film!) A lot of fans pick and choose meetings so spread out at different meetings during the season. But obviously they all choose to attend the playoffs!

  4. Oxford Speedway is another example of a Track being opened up with the help of Greyhound racing . The project would never have happened but for the Dogs .

  6. I heard on Radio Oxford either earlier this week or the tail end of last week that representatives of PETA were invited To the stadium to see the facilities for the Greyhounds and talk to those involved in running the Greyhounds, they declined I'm rapidly approaching my 60th birthday in an an ever changing World, where what was common usage of language in my youth is now frowned upon. I'd say in my life i've been pretty open and not given a toss about Race, Religion, Sexuality etc but to come across people who only believe what they want to hear/see and never listen to the otherside of the argument, you're all just narrowminded IMO.

  10. He's a smashing lad with a really likeable temperament and a willingness to listen and learn, but sadly never seems to figure in anybodies plans at the start of a season. I think he can go a long way in the sport.

  11. But there’s a massive difference there. When I go on a Thursday evening, there’s seven Witches donned in their Witches team suits representing my home town team. Who cares who else they ride for?? I don’t. Danyon Hume rode for Glasgow last night and rode very well, but to me he’s a Witch riding for someone else.

  12. Speedway started in the U.K. thanks to so many greyhound tracks being available - London dominated the sport and now the tracks are gone so has the speedway. I count 2 Premiership, 3 Championship (inc Edinburgh) and one stand alone NDL club racing at a greyhound track. The sport really needs to get out of these places and develop modern tracks capable of meeting the speed of a modern bike. Workington is a prime example, out of the way and a super track.

  13. I presume you're referring to the cost of buying the BSN stream, which is £12.99? (You're not referring to the admission price of attending the meeting - £20 I think ) If so, I don't see a problem. It's paid by card and it's pretty common in retail to end prices in 99p to look psychologically cheaper.

  14. I see the admission price for the pairs is £12.99 that's fantastic as surely no one would want to pay £13.00!

  15. The RTE report stated less than 6,000 (5,987 to be precise). Now while the number is still shocking, it helps to get your facts right. It was also definitely not commissioned by the IGB - that was the Preferred Results report, which was an internal investigation that was leaked to RTE. And the biggest issue of all is this is solely IRELAND and nothing to do with ENGLAND, so it's a bit misleading to state this in a thread about Swindon (and speedway in England in general). As others have stated, whether you are pro greyhound racing or not, there's no doubt there would be far fewer speedway clubs still going without it.

  24. What is the NJL match as there was nothing on the fixture list at the start of the season? Don't know why clubs keep these matches secret?

  25. Maybe you can find out if King checked with the Poole management before accepting the booking?

  26. How long you been in Wimbledon for ? who been making up figures since you been on this forum .. amazing your typos etc always make it look worst for greyhound racing . Not sure when going to sink it but to two can never work together .. Get Greyhounds banned at Swindon and Oxford will not help speedway in any way ..

  27. Has to be... . Given that structure has worked so brilliantly well to get the sport in the UK to where it is today..

  29. Sigh, it's not. It's fair to say it was as of 2018. Saying it is now is pure speculation - it would have to be based of predicted racing levels and safety standards post pandemic (and they were already improving based on 2019's figures). Plus, you didn't say anything about Ireland originally, it was 'in this country' - you tried to claim 7,000 was in this country alone. You only claimed 'UK and Ireland' when I pulled you up on it. And Ireland is a pretty big percentage of it, based on your figures it's over 80%! You just wanted a sensationalist figure - regardless of its legitimacy. And that's the last I am going to say on it as you really don't get it.

  30. I'd agree on that. The sport needs to be as independant as possible. especially away from animal sports I did notice in Germany over the past week that both equestrian and horse racing are now coming under attack.

  31. I'd guess (not claiming any accuracy) 400-450 for the first and 500ish for the second. (So as many as four or five Championship tracks I've visited this season)

  34. Yes, a sport already struggling due to costs , climate change and lack of interest, then had Covid added on, and now with the Russia- Ukraine war to boot, it is going to be an extremely difficult winter for the sport

  35. It wasn't bad, best crowd for a long time, and not all Sweaties either.

  36. 6 months ago I would have said LT will die before ice racing. Now I'm not that sure anymore. LT is a discipline where an intermediate speedway rider can buy success through equipment and with that some dont bother. Increasing cost of travel, smaller prize money, less crowd... You do the math.

  37. Of course it is... It is total nonsense isnt it? But fans of the sport who attend each week, and collude with promoters pretending that it a real team sport, cannot really have it both ways... Great sport to watch but best not to take it seriously from a competitive team sport angle in the UK.. Just enjoy, what can be, a great spectacle and ignore the infrastructure around it... The crowd numbers at Oxford , after their long absence, certainly seems to suggest that they are happy with what they are watching, and having a track with numbers like that can only be good for the sport..

  38. Yes true but he can do that when riding for Ipswich

  39. Maybe your right. But another angle, He has been struggling with engines this year & now has new ones. Just maybe it's a chance to test them & get paid to practice to find his best set up & in turn record better results for Poole in the long term.

  42. Solid scoring by all tonight , Don’t think Poole wanted them to leave but when a bigger club comes calling then it’s only natural that you would leave.

  49. Just been chatting to a young Monarchs fan at Poole station. He's off to Peterborough tonight & Belle Vue on Friday on the train meeting up with mates. Great to see. Both agreed that Monarchs should av got a point for their efforts. There is younger support out there who like to travel to support speedway & by train the same as me. The myth is busted Kieran the Monarch he be, just guided him through the London underground to St.Pancras. And he'll also be at Leicester's double header on Sunday vs Berwick so I'll see him there Speedway, the real deal Save the Monarchs
