Very knowledgeable lot you are reading through these posts. Can't really disagree with most of your assessments of your teams chances. My team redcar will be there or thereabouts. A lot depends on how hulme settles in and James shanes. The heat leader trio will be a match for anybody but lacked back up last season. Hopefully this will be addressed this time round. A lot of people are talking up scunny and I can see why...mpt and Allen are much better riders than there current averages suggests also Plymouth have a cracking looking side and will do well. Poole and Glasgow will also be in the mix with vissing a absolute steal on a five for the tigers. Berwick and Birmingham have got there team building totally wrong imo and I predict brum will pick up the wooden spoon. Edinburgh will finish the lower half with Oxford. Oxford awesome heat leaders but I can't see where the rest of the points are coming from. Anyway good luck one and all and let's get behind our teams and have a good year. Merry Xmas x5 points

I think it’s criminal if young dan Thompson doesn’t find a place to ride in this league what sort of message does that send out to the young riders that we will bring foreign riders in before using our own no wonder people become disillusioned with our sport.3 points

Rob is a great fella and always tells you as it is most of those who criticise him have never took the time to talk to him .3 points

Correct Steve, At present Andrew is the sole promoter however he does have an experienced mentor in a fellow club promoter... Not sure how well this will go down with the Blue and White faithful but his mentor is none other than Mr Rob Godfrey; Chairman of the BSPL and owner of Scunthorpe Speedway... Now I know there is a little history between the Comets fans and Rob (in his other roles) but being totally honest; Rob is a straight guy and has the best interest of the sport at heart and will support Andrew 100% in his endeavours; and to be fair he doesn't mind being portrayed as the bad guy as its water off the proverbial ducks back to him and it also contradicts what his better half says about him that he is erm "a big soft erm softie" (edited for politeness)... Also I can confirm that she is right... another 100% on that score too... Regards THJ3 points

They could always charge less for a season ticket in the first place if there are only 11 matches guaranteed, hence making a substantial saving possible. Back their original team building choices and, therefore, take the gamble that extra meetings will be forthcoming further down the line, knowing full well that people should be likely to turn up for 'big occasion' events when they occur.3 points

The last time Poole failed to qualify for the playoffs in any league was I think 2009, but then went on a bit of a run after that to say the least.. Even in 2019 the year before dropping down, they finished top of the Premiership so I think we can say they’ve been pretty consistently competitive… It was move race night or move leagues when the FIM insisted Mon and Thurs for British top league racing.2 points

Remind us all again where Poole finished in the Premiership seasons before going Championship!!2 points

Should have said in my post above that is what should happen. Not what is happening. Apologies for any confusion! Nothing worse than a season ticket that doesn’t offer any form of enticement for having it. Not the same sport but my old Football League season ticket (dropped when it stopped being value for money) used to allow me to miss three or four games a season and still be getting a good deal. On top of that was priority cup tickets and other perks. Once I dropped the season ticket I then missed more and more games. Now I pick and choose. Bad move from the club who now miss out on my money completely, plus extras such as food and drinks. Better to have a discounted bum on a seat than no bum on a seat. Life happens and people will miss an event here and there. It’s important for Speedway promotions in particular to make sure they don’t lose out on a season ticket sale because one missed meeting would render the purchase of said season ticket pointless.2 points

It's certainly true that the Facenna brothers have splashed the cash on their track, equipment, facilities and in the Community. Stadium Owners who have invested and that's why Team GB ride internationals there and FIM and SGP are happy to allocate major Fixtures. Two straight talking guys who don't seek the limelight. As for Poole, erm tenants, no investment in track or stadium, backhand deals and gazumping riders like Lawson and Roynon. Jury won't be out very long on disproving Arthur's fairy tales.2 points

Couldn't give a jot about Yanks to be honest. Shame about Dan, but Kemp and Rowe have developed a reputation for being high maintenance and sulkers. Hopefully all 3 can find opportunities and that 2 of them can reflect that behaviour and demeanour off the track can be as important as points on it.2 points

So basically the delay is all down to which way Rob Lyon wants to go. Nicki P & Hans or NKI & Tungate NKI & Tungate is a no brainer over Nicki P & Andersen2 points

Definitely didn’t happen but a bloody good idea. I believe with the season ticket you’re saving around £1.5 a match and 5p off a program, but what has been stated you miss one match you’re not saving anything. For me it’s about paying upfront and not having to find £40 on a Friday night for tickets.2 points

Chronic underachiever, should be 8+ rider but just seems to just coast on the family name rather than putting the graft in to get better.2 points

Can't imagine why a young rider who wants to develop would want to leave the so called best track in the country that runs limited meetings and is not readily available for practice at anytime .2 points

Suggest you look a bit harder then. I was saying that £50 for your name on a racesuit is good value but you wouldn't expect to get the racesuit at season end because corporate sponsors would pay more for their logo on the suit as Mark Philips explained in the video. At Poole last season (similar to SteveHols experience) race suits could be sponsored for I believe £700 and the suit was then yours at the season end or could be auctioned off to benefit the Riders Equipment Fund. Incidentally my invite to the Chateau is totally free of charge!!1 point

That you’re here to be part of the team and the monarchs family, helping anyone from fellow riders to mechanics on match days being there for the fans. Not just turn up get my wage and go home and no give a toss about anyone else like you get elsewhere.1 point

It's only costing Plymouth fans £50 to have their name on the race suit. I doubt they will be able to keep the suit especially as sponsors logos will cost a lot more.1 point

Never a truer word said; but to be fair Rob does get a laugh out of it especially when he is portrayed as the "Panto Villain" and he takes the criticism with a pinch of salt but again give the guy his due if the criticism is positive he does listen... Regards THJ1 point

Oooh yo are awful but I like you... however its not costing the club a penny... a very generous sponsor has been found who will be paying for the suits... Yes and no... not trying to be elusive but it will be a Saturday and me personally would like it to be a couple of hours earlier but the consensus seems to be later not earlier (seen your Rugby clashes) and this is to accommodate any locals who may be working a Saturday morning shift... floodlights would definitely make it later... just have to wait and see what transpires after the new year... And a butt plug for you... a very large one at that... However the other bonus will be Steve Lawson in the pits who will be there to offer advice... and if these young kids (and their mechanic's) don't grasp that with both hands and listen to what the legend is saying they will definitely miss the opportunity of a life time... I am about two thirds through the 500 plus pages. It is an extremely well put together history of PC’s career, starting from a very young age, very young. Having lived and brought up in the same small village of Partington, sort of 10 miles south west of Manchester, I find his detail of life at that time very interesting. The passing away of Bill Collins, Peters dad, at such a young age, and of his mechanic George Clarke, again so young, was very touching. Two nice guys. Earlier in this thread I commented the first chapter I read was Mechanics (as I valued my mechanics when I was doing club level grass tracking). Another interesting chapter was the one about music he listened to whilst travelling to meetings. 60,000 travel miles a year… there is only so much small chat you can cover with your mechanic/driver. He met some amazing artists during his travels. I too was/am a fan of the Hollies and ELO, to get to meet them would be amazing. Peter did, I am jealous.. I still have a third of the book to read, one day it may be a single chapter, another day 2 maybe 3 chapters. I am sure the remaining chapters will divulge a lot more insight into Peters highly successful career. Big surprise for me was chapter 6, paragraph 3. Well done to Peter, TonyMac and Sue, plus all the others, and there will be many, who put together this record of Peters career…….arguably Englands most successful speedway rider (he is in my mind anyway). I have read Chris Morton’s “Until the can runs dry”, a very good read. I want to read Dave Morton’s book. I always thought Dave was going to be a very top rider but maybe his serious accident curtailed his progress to that very top level. And I still waiting for a book that will cover what really went on behind the scenes leading to Belle Vues new stadium and the first 12 months of its management. Just curious.1 point
