  1. If all else fails in 2023 at least Peterborough have ready made Rylan and Sheridan Smith look a likes to entice the fans though the turnstiles

  4. Steve Yes i know the team if it is as rumoured. I also have no issue with it as I think our reserves if as mentioned should score plenty to compensate the loss of an established 3rd H/L although we all hope Ben Cook will progress further. I left the Tate discussion alone as I fully accepted he would not be coming. It was only really a number of people commenting again on here and on the Plym Forum pages about him maybe coming to Poole that made me comment further in the last couple of days. Steve - This is a forum on the subject of Poole 2023. There is enough crap posted by certain individuals nothing to do with the Forum subject. Don't shoot someone who tries to engage in sensible discussion on a talent that most of us would like to see at Poole (especially after the DW endorsement). As said more than happy with the team but that should not stop us still discussing the top Aussie talent that many of us would like to see associated with Poole knowing the teams history and association with good young Aussies over the years. I also agree a lot cheaper but that didn't stop the Ford's bring over both Cook's in the Champ. Anyway thanks for your negative input.

  5. Panthers got a tiger at reserve in Ben Cook. Give him a month to settle and watch him go. Once he has his setups sorted he will be very fast and score a sack load at reserve. Big year for him an his brother at Wolves. But like his brother, just hope he stays safe for his home club.

  6. Yes. Showground will suit him down to the ground and Chris Holder will probably take him under his wing and mentor him throughout the season, Ben will do well and he'll score consistently well on big tracks imo but he might struggle around the technical places which is what you would expect from any newcomer to the league these days imo. For Poole last season he got better and better as the season went on.

  9. It's quite obvious Arch, there's no Poole connection with Flint 34 minutes ago, Arch Stanton said: Not quite sure why Skidder and Shovlar find this funny? The fact Flint is already averaging more than Cook at 4 years his junior makes the above spot on. Don’t see the fuss with Zach Cook to be honest. Flint will again average more than Cook next season IMO.

  12. Club legend but he's in danger of tarnishing it by hanging around too long. In all honesty the concussion in the Grand Final at Belle Vue was one injury too many.

  13. Give over ffs Flint averaged nearly a point and a half more than Zach Cook over the course of the season, which lasts from April to October. Flint has far far more potential than Zach Cook and you know it.

  14. Omg can't believe the things I've been saying recently,,, liking Doyle,, having Batch back,,, now I'm even gonna say,,, out of the 4 pointer ish riders mentioned,,, I would have a new euro rider like Salonen,,,, but if not,,, it would be Heeps,,, as home wins are crucial next year,, the bigger the better,,, but I would only take him if he spent a few hours with Donk,,, and improved his gating,,, as that's his biggest problem.

  15. Zach Cook is a better rider than Flint. Flint might have a higher Champ average but Zach Cook came on leaps and bounds in the second half of 22. Check out his scores on the Speedway updates.

  16. My predictions (although form and injury will surely play their part to scupper them...) Berwick - not too bad, they will be on the edges of the play-offs all year. Birmingham - yikes!!! Edinburgh - they've kept 5 of their seven riders from last year and that will be something which they can use to their advantage. Top 4. Glasgow - a good mix of youth and experience plus a huge home track advantage will make sure that they are around the top places - Top 4. Oxford - if Cameron Heeps and Jordan Jenkins can help their top three i can see them being in the play-offs come the end of the season. Plymouth - if Dan Gilkes can become a heat leader and Paul Starke the strongest no. 2 in the league then this could be their year - Top 4, potential winners. Poole - Provided they resign Lawson and the Cook's continue their trajectory they will be up there once again - Top 4, potential winners. Redcar - Jason Edwards and Jake Mulford will be among the strongest reserves in the league and will help their top heavy team immensely. Play-offs for sure. Scunthorpe - On paper they don't look the strongest but speedway is raced on shale (boom! boom!) so i think they are also capable of reaching the play-offs. Regardless of whichever team you support have a happy new year everyone!

  17. And more examples. These aren’t mugs he’s passing either they’re top heatleaders. He may never get back to that and could be on a permanent decline who knows, it would be a gamble for sure.

  18. For me: Mountain is high above Hume, both in talent and consistency. Heeps wouldn't even make it to the list.

  22. Second season running Peterborough have signed the best and most entertaining rider to come from the championship that hadn't ridden previously in the premiership Starting at reserve as Basso did it will allow him to settle racing against riders hes been beating consistently in the championship So far its been Ben Basso and then Ben Cook who is next Ben Barker or will they sign a Bill to go with the Ben's

  26. Wasn’t meant as negative Steve. Just pointless talking about riders who are not coming to Poole next season. May as we’ll be talking about Zmarzlik being our new number one. Neither are going to be riding for us. Lets be realistic and talk about our touted 1-7 and how we compare to other Championship sides, instead of fantasy riders who are not coming into the Poole team. Happy New Year to you and other Poole fans. Let’s hope 2023 is as successful as last season was.

  28. Well riding in the NJL isn’t going to improve them as they will only go to Berwick and Redcar and ride against novices. Let’s hope Glasgow and Workington can find riders to enlarge the league and bring on some new riders as the sport certainly needs them.

  29. Basso will improve far more if he starts the season as a second string without any HL pressures to deal with, he would benefit greatly from being partnered wifh NKI or Holder

  30. Thanks for the tip. Just finished reading about the late Ronnie's career with Rainbow esp the very excellent Long Live Rock & Roll album. Will be revisiting the listening of Motorhead's seminal Ace Of Spades LP later (3 x LP vers hardbound w 40 page book - reduced from £54.99 to £29.99 in HMV sale ) later accompanied by a burger & plenty of drinkipoos. Likely through headphones as girlf is out tonite - no need 'to behave' - may yet share the experience with the neighbours once all the fireworks start going off, which in Hull could well be around teatime. I'm not kidding. Happy New Year to all in speedway ....

  32. Roynon is Poole bound, which is a pity Plymouth would be a good fit for him he likes the track, the promotion rate him and he would score good points for us. I think at Poole he will be dropped before the playoffs to make way for a new asset imo.

  33. There's 2 versions of Heeps im afraid, one who takes it seriously and keeps fit close season and the other who comes into the season a couple of stone over weight.

  37. Ben Cook didn't have the best of starts to the season but he finished the season like a true heat leader, always seems to have the edge over his brother too which is a plus for Peterborough when they meet Wolves. One of the things both Cooks are good at is listening and learning from other riders, if Holder is in the team that would certainly help him and in my opinion the track will suit him and the Panthers fans will grow to love him, some of his rides and passes at the end of last season were amazing. At 25 some might think he won't improve anymore but I think there is still plenty to come .

  45. Well if Tate were to sign up on a 5.00 for Poole that would mean Thomas at reserve and that ain't happening as Thomas is riding at 2, as announced.

  46. Guy Nicholls could sign off the contracts for both without batting an eyelid. This fella is minted beyond belief. He made a 100,000 donation to an Ipswich school 3 years ago, and his businesses and personal wealth have rocketed since even then! What works in Ipswich’ favour as apposed to other wealthy backers at other clubs, is that Nicholls is as big a fan as anyone. He’s been standing on the terraces at Foxhall on a weekly basis since the 70’s and is a massive fan of the club. If Louis went cap in hand and said “I can get Emil in with your help and have a real push for the title” then he could be easily persuaded. Crump was signed on a ridiculous deal for a rider who had been retired for years, but the deal was signed off with no qualms.
