  1. Yet again last night, the best night of the year so far, weather wise... only 1 Speedway meeting on... and that was a junior match

  2. And tell me, what advert for the academy was all the local lads getting dropped and a 27 year old Australian flown in to take their place?

  3. So we should just stick with the current problem cause they ride in the academy. Sorry but if you actually want the season to go past August and make the play offs you need to make changes. Sometimes in life you just need to be ruthless.

  4. Looking back, on the May bank holiday in 1973, May 26th you had nine meetings Kings Lynn v Leicester, Belle Vue v Wolverhampton, Cradley v Reading, Halifax v Exeter, Berwick v Boston, Canterbury v Peterborough, Rayleigh v Teeside, Swindon v Oxford and a WCQR at Coventry. On bank holiday Monday nine meetings were taking place and between the 24th and 31st May the fixture list showed 53 meetings were due to take place. I afraid that is when speedway was really worth turning out for and many a happy Saturday night spent at the Weir watching leaping Len and the Rockets. Sadly the last season at the stadium.

  5. There is very much a “this is how it is” take it or leave it,among some speedway Promotions these days. Not a good way to operate IMO.

  6. I hope your wrong obviously! I think British speedway will continue to deterioate to a point where drastic measures that should be happening now like clubs allowed to run on whatever night they wish to run on, more use of English riders, 2nd halves, not having dictatorial Directors like Godfrey bending the rules to suit himself, independent governance of the Leagues, less doubling up etc will be implemented. Whether it has a long term future is debatable but I think we will see League racing on the 100th anniversary in 2028.

  7. I might be able to solve this confusion, as I was also told a couple of weeks ago by a couple of people that Jason Garrity had been phoning round for a team place. As I knew it wasn't possible because of where Garrity is currently residing, I asked some questions. I was told that he was offering to make himself available to a couple of National League teams, which couldn't be right... after a few further questions, it turned out that the person interested in a team place was actually JASON GARROD!

  8. I’m hearing they approached Garrity to see the season out at Armadale. He in turn approached the parole board to put him back inside. Just confirming that he will do anything to avoid Edinburgh.

  9. I've not noticed not a single fan backing the SCB / BSPL over their treatment of the IoW / Nora league. The only comments siding with them are from people involved with clubs. I guess the SCB think they know better than the fans. Does that explain why Speedway is struggling in this country?
    3 points
  10. I doubt that any speedway enthusiast will see this development as anything but spiteful vindictiveness on the part of the SCB and the BSPL (if the latter has had any input into it - and we don't seem to know for certainty that they have.) This could surely be challenged in a court of law, and a serious threat to do this would surely produce a backtracking of the decision? We are all entitled to our views, but if there is a single poster who comes on to this site and says that they support the SCB's stand, I will be very surprised indeed!

  11. Many fans lose patience with those running speedway and eventually just stop going. The product is still fine, but the short-termism and come-day, go day attitude has been speedway's problem for decades. Tracks are closing at an alarming rate and there is no solution. Hopefully the sport will continue in some shape or form, as it still provides a good few hours' entertainment.

  12. Rob Godfrey - 'we've got the rider we wanted all along' I thought Nick skorja was first choice

  13. I think Poole fans are entitled to have a dig the way he acted last season in the play offs. If he has genuine issues then they should be aired so we all understand.

  16. I spoke to Simon Lambert on Wednesday about Kemp and he wasn’t very flattering in his opinion. Pretty sure a few home truths could be said in the next few weeks. Lambert is pretty straight talking.

  17. At this point in his career he is basically a 2.00 rider himself.

  18. Was always surprising that the senior Poole riders didn't put him right when riding for them really. As he's 20 now hopefully he's grown out of his teenage strops for Scunthorpe's sake and acts his age....

  19. Drew and Nathan from 2022 Poole team now at Scunthorpe. Expect the wins to start pouring in...............!

  20. It'll be interesting to see if Kemp has found some humility and lost the petulance and arrogance after his enforced absence. The ability is there, now he needs to apply himself and ride for the team.

  21. another rider you were previously after too

  22. A lot keeps getting said that scunthorpe run Nora speedway events as a point of interest could someone actually clarify which meetings these were and on what dates and which riders were present. Or is it that scunthorpe run Nora licences events such as dirt diggers meeting, flat track series run by Richard Hollingsworth or stock cars. would be interesting to get the full picture based on facts rather than assumptions based on not liking Rob Godfrey.

  23. VERY VERY different crimes. Even if he was available, I would be surprised if anyone wanted to see Garrity back after what he did.

  24. Now that makes sense. Thanks for clearing it up

  25. This was a fixture change. Pboro was due to face Sheffield. But Sheffield had 3 riders missing due to gp qualifying, I’m guessing as they are both bates family clubs they arranged for Leicester to race instead

  26. Would it have been better on a narrower track Geoff?

  27. He rode well, looked fast.

  28. Indeed, you wouldn't see a better race than that even in the grand prix

  29. Always going to be up against it trying to prepare a decent track on an afternoon like today, water was drying up almost as fast as it was going on (which was after every two heats from what I remember). Track is going to need more dirt on it to retain more moisture and provide more grip around the outside, a few lads gave it a go out wide today but found nothing there and ended up going backwards, riders quickly learned that staying down low and hugging the white line is the quickest way round at the moment but it doesn't make for very entertaining racing. Mind you it has been very dry for almost the whole of May, things might improve once the rain returns and the track has had a more consistent soaking.

  30. Great! Captain misses the meeting to chase his own deluded personal dream! Personally I'd strip him of the captaincy for that! Or... was this a fixture change? If so why on earth did Leicester accept it knowing their captain would be missing?

  37. He is not going to get away with a teenage strop with MPT and Simon Lambert in the team! Bet Scunny are gutted they were at Poole last week and not this week!

  38. So Scunny have 2 members of the victorious 2022 Pirates team - lets watch 'em go!!

  39. It is dependent on how many stewards they have available. Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't.

  40. Holder and Kolodziej maybe? And obviously Sayfutdinov and Laguta would strengthen it considerably, so let's hope that they are back next year, being given permanent wild cards if needed..

  41. Do you no what I do like having a little dig at mr Godfrey but I take my hat off to him for this, clegg weren’t doing it so Kemp comes in at least he’s being proactive and trying to do his best for Scunthorpe not like my team who aren’t doing it and still have the same team . I’ll admit I’m a bit jealous.

  46. I don't know if Barry and Martin's vision could revive speedways fortunes , it seems to work on the isle of Wight and the Kent meeting seemed a success but nationaly I'm not sure . But what I am sure of is the current running of the sport is a ticket to oblivion. Dinosaurs doing the same thing year after expecting different results. Didn't an intelligent chap years ago say that's a sign of madness

  47. Edinburgh 6 & 7 = 2 points Scunthorpe 6 & 7 = 15 + 5 Says it all really

  48. Redcar produced a superb team display as they defeated the much fancied Glasgow Tigers 53-37 in the first leg of the KO Cup quarter finals. It was a night of jaw dropping speedway and the perfect way for the “Agilia” Bears to bounce back after their BSN Series home defeat to Poole https://buff.ly/43twkzp

  49. I'd counter that with Edinburgh's reserves should be strong at Edinburgh lol!
    1 point
  50. Your doing Redcar an injustice they were very good tonight, I think we have to accept that on the night we were well beaten by the better team. Its a big ask for the second leg but never say never, things don’t always go the way you want it in any sport personally I’m not overly concerned bad night at the office we will bounce back.
