Rye House V Edinburgh 13/7/13
Rockets replied to cityrebel's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
This meeting is for me what speedway is about. Good hard racing and plenty of incidents. Cook when not breaking the tapes was in a class of his own and young Fricke looks a terrific prospect . Rockets very unlucky though not to win with nelson well in front before suffering a puncture and Anders on a easy 5-1 before what looked like his cut out coming loose. Good banter with the travelling fans. They did their club proud. -
Assuming Allen is out for a while I agree. Lets hope we get a half decent result at Redcar and still have something to race for in the rest of the season.
-
i'm surprised nelsons average is so low. Would Klindt Be the Answer Shadders. You saw him Friday.
-
I have mixed feelings about this. You are all absolutely right Len really does need to change his approach to the club including his relationship with the fans the presentation and his inability to be ruthless about team changes. However he has been horribly unlucky the last two years with injuries. Neath/Frampton first meeting last season. JB and SL first meeting this season. Now OA and JG our top two. Not season ending injuries either so do you replace or fill them until they are fit. What is needed is for Len to bring in a younger co promoter with a bit of money who can freshen things up a bit. In the last year of Ronnie Rogues reign I organised a meeting with bouncy castles face painting beauticans BBQ free wineand a change of music etc. It cost me five hundred quid but pulled in an extra 1000 supporters on the day. Maybe a lesson to be learned still?

Well deserved Plymouth win. I could nt understand how their results had been so bad. Awful track. The devils made most of the gates and it appeared almost impossible to pass unless someone took their life in their hands or someone made a mistake.Insipid display by the Rockets. No excuse that it was a dead rubber.Olly Allen and Tyson escape any criticism. Tried their hearts out. Mear a good effort. Clearly trying. Mellgren looked slow and disinterested as did kasper. Not good enough when fans pay good money to watch you.JB clearly just finding his way back. Great last ride. Someone needs to protect Simon and take him out of the firing line. Clearly nowhere near ready to return. Could nt even turn properly at the corners. Brave effort but his corner should throw the towel in for a while. -
Agree with everyone. Good signing. This will at least soften the blow ( a little) of Jason's injury and will take some of the pressure off JB and SL by avoiding rider replacement.

That's funny!!! Terrible news for Jason and the team Any idea how long he will be out?

Two things. Len said he was told that if Nelson rode that night he would be banned for the season. I can only gague the crowd from the stand facing the tapes which had about a third of the normal figure. However more sensible people might have gone under the covered stands. -

Len said his piece in public. If that version is not true fine him for bringing the sport into disrepute. But if his version is true and at the moment we have no reason to believe it is nt then its a mockery. He must have thought Nelson was cleared to ride because he could have named boxall or someone at number 8.If his version is right how do the club get compensated for the loss of a prestigious cup semi final - if they end up losing over two legs? -

Well a rather strange evening all in. First of all to Chris who it would seem is criticising from the comfort of his armchair Len told us all what happened. Apparently he was told Nelson could ride if his visa didn't come through. They then changed their mind 20 minutes before the start of the meeting. Surely with an FIM meeting they or the country you represent should be charged with getting the visa. Having to start with five men is clearly a joke. Can you imagine spurs or arsenal starting with nine players. The bspa and FIM between them clearly live in some deluded ivory tower. Gripes aside well done to both sets of riders. Conditions were never easy. Wells rode like he wanted to win - unlike when he guested for us. Stead is an absolute trier. For us everyone did their bit. Anders does look a little slow and i'm still not sure Ollie has settled. When they both really fire we will have some top four. Garrity was a class apart but my man of the match was Kasper who has usual earned most of his points from the back. Two final comments. Well done to the referee. Apart from giving stead about five minutes to get to the tapes on a two minute warning I thought he had a good night. I think every one bar him thought the meeting should be called off half way through but he was proved right. Second this night shows why speedway lacks credibility as a professional sport. That is not aimed at any of the riders who to a man gave their all but to those responsible for making sure this meeting finished whatever the cost and with a home team missing two riders. Quite barmy. -

Its such a shame that the other two boys got injured and Len did nt use his full quota of points. Most teams would gag for a top four like that. -

Whilst delighted he may be able to ride for us I do feel sorry for Nelson missing out on the under 21's. I'm not sure its personal to him - more an Aussie thing. Tomorrow has the makings of a rain off. I'm a few miles from the track and it tonked down last night. Add that to the high river level and the rain forecast for tomorrow and it does nt look good. As an aside has anyone worked out what the riders averages would so far be based upon this years meetings. I should imagine its a power house top four. -

Will Allen be fit for this? Maybe Doyle and Boxall in? -
Can I just say what a breath of fresh air Nikko has been. Enthusiastic communicative and honest. Very refreshing. I can't make Mondays opener which is an even bigger shame now I know the legend that is Barry Thomas will be there but will definitely make the first meeting I can. Well done Nikko.

Great news for the team just hope for his sake that it's nota knee jerk reaction to the british under 21.
-
So its Sheffield KO Cup now 11/5/2013. Wont Garrity be missing? Surely we have a serious chance of a semi final place against Sheffield. Just what is Len thinking?

Oops! Cant see much other than a fairly lumpy home win to be honest. Whether its enough to win on aggregate though is another thing. Kasper will need to be on form though as young Ben is nt having the best of times. -

Shaders he was interviewed during one of the enforced breaks during the Ipswich match. To be honest I was mid burger at the time but I thought he said something about being fit to ride now but the doctors were recommending that he have a pin removed first. I thinking he was looking end July ? -
I just was nt sure

See in his interview simon says Len is saving his place for him . See in his interview simon says Len is saving his place for him . See in his interview simon says Len is saving his place for him . That may be true but after their apparent fall out the mere fact Len is letting him have track time suggests more.
