I suspect the standard speedway line of 'if you don't like don't come' will be used. -

It's truly amazing & the sad thing is a few now seem to be blaming Eurosport for causing damage to the product. -

We can accept defeat, however there was a real chance of getting an away point. It's odds on Doyle would have won heat 14 & 15. Given the up & down nights the other heat 15 contenders had had its perfectly possible Ipswich could have got a 5-1 in heat 15. Someone said on here Sheffield only have access to the stadium for 6 hours on a Wednesday to prep the track on last night's evidence they would need a whole day just to put the fence up. -

How can you say Eurosport are damaging the reputation of British speedway? British speedway has done far more damage to its own reputation over the years the whole thing is just one big farce! -

So the Sheffield track staff taking at least 45 minutes to fit one airbag into place has nothing to do with it? -

Well you all know how to win at Sheffield now, get in front & puncture a few airbags job done! In all seriousness the result should either be null & void and rerun or reclassified as a draw. I watched tonight for a first time in a while and the sad thing is I went into it hoping to see a contest & instead found myself even more pissed off with the sport. Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse speedway sure does suprise in the most negative way! -

Well I have it on good authority that the FA are so impressed with speedway's golden heat that they plan to introduce something similar to the premier League next season. An unexpected result of this fact finding mission is they will also be introducing a guest player system as well. -

Or just call it a draw, last night a draw was the far result. -
Newcastle now closed !!!

Trees I get that you're passionate about your speedway, but when are you going to take your rose tinted specs off?s Whenever someone points out a major issue with the sport or something major happens to further show the extremely poor condition of the sport in this country you always comeback with something along the lines of its always been like that. It hasn't though the sport is now down to having fewer than 100 riders in this country, less than 20000 spectators weekly & no major income from outside. Added to this no strategies to improve the product or entice new comers. You have riders who want to be full-time professionals earning enough money to support themselves from their racing all from a sport who's total home attendances which are less in number than the average away attendance in league one football. Newcastle closing is not only sad for the Newcastle supporters it's also another major blow to speedway in this country. Until people within the sport wake-up & smell the coffee & decide to do something the sport in on a downward spiral towards being no more in the UK. -

Don't forget 2017 Peterborough v Ipswich KO cup final when Scott Nicholls rode for Peterborough in the 1st leg & then rode for Ipswich in the 2nd leg. A truly professional sport. -

Promote the league to whom? Currently the sport is attracting the hard core of supports that are left like yourself who will happily pay hard earned money watch something that has no meaning. Time is running out to save the sport but those in charge have to admit that there is a problem first, something that seem unable to do even with all the evidence. In terms of me coming up with the readies I can't justify the investment of £20 to watch so I'm out. -

The structure used to be there but the short sighted promotors ditched it. I well remember the national League running with no guests they were banned. My team Ipswich suffered Dave Norris was out injured and it cost us the chance of the league title. However in every sport injury & luck plays a part. You may disagree and think doubling up & the guest fest is ok but for every one Trees who accepts it there are 1000s who don't. I want to see this sport become successful I want to see it survive & I want to support it again. However in its current guise it does nothing for me and thousands like me. -
Didn't the stars know that this would happen? Having Iversen in the side before Poland/Sweden started was one thing but using him in breach of his Polish contract is quite another. I would guess that given the shortage of riders Lynn kept on using Iversen knowing that either the poles would turn a blind eye or they would be granted a facility 'in the interest of speedway'

Head well and truly in the sand. Every TV company will always want to interview a clubs skipper & or top player or in speedway's case rider. It's not the TV companies fault that the governing body comes up with such insane rules. -

The issue is it's at the heart of the problem a team sport has to have credibility & competitions worth winning. Currently it has neither only a band of riders who can & will ride for any club during the season. Even if you didn't tell anyone it wouldn't be long before they found out. I think as some elsewhere on here has pointed out Danny King was interviewed on Eurosport as the Ipswich skipper later in the same programme he pops up as Poole Skipper. That's on international TV the very tool that you're trying to promote your product. -
Blinkers well and truly on. Lublin is very a case of look what you could have had. Fantastic

It does make a huge difference. If you're trying to market the sport to people outside of speedway to ensure its survival, them having to explain that the riders in your team can ride for any other club in the UK under the doubling up/guest regulations & that their performance for a rival club could impact your own season or worse if an injury is suffered. It made a difference to me and many other 1000s who gave up on the sport. And just because it's happened for years doesn't make it right does it? -

It's a farce! The lack of riders is purely down to the BSPA/L there was a structure in place not perfect but far better than we have now when every BL & NL team had a junior side. Most clubs would have a squad of 9 to 12 riders. Plenty to fill in for missing reserves and number 8 to cover Rider replacement. It wasn't perfect but there were certainly more riders and opportunities for riders to race. For several years the NL even managed to run without guests as it was banned, forward thinking or what. Its sad that the reason for the state of speedway in the country is the governing body. You can try and blame the GPs or Poland but the rot set in decades ago. -
It's in the Polish contract that the riders signed so perfectly legal.
-
I can't comment on anything pre 89 because I didn't attend. However 89 though to the mid 90s every team in the British & National leagues had a junior team. My club Ipswich had in effect a squad or 12 riders. These competitions gave track time to young riders but also those who couldn't commit to full seasons. Slowly they were scrapped & the promotors looked to overseas imports rather than development of British riders. Then as you move through the recent history of UK speedway we get to doubling up to try and combat rider shortage which has only led to more of a shortage. I wish I knew the answer but the state of UK speedway is depressing and the let's keep doing the same thing over & over again even more so. The poles have a business model which at the moment works & I suspect they will adapt moving forward, something the BSPA seem unable to do.
-
Given the profile polish speedway has and the money involved then I don't blame them. It's not Poland's fault that UK speedway has been mismanaged for decades.

To be honest the old circuit provided better racing than is seen now. But then to be honest nowhere produces consistently good racing these days. -

Ditto here, I thought I'd miss speedway if I stopped going. The season that broke me was 2010 since then I've gone from almost ever present at home meetings to one maybe two meetings a year.
