Swindon Robins 2020

I agree with everything you have said. Unfortunately it shows the main issue Swindon or anywhere else faces in the face of housing development. The fanbase & the support levels are just too small is just to small to provide any opposition. I remember in the mid nineties when Ipswich nearly went of of business. The local MP got involved there were large protests in the centre of town the management & riders we're in the centre of town fund raising. All that sparked huge local media coverage & £100k was raised in next to no time ensuring that the speedway could continue. If something similar happened today I'm not sure the out come would be the same. Sad times but the price of being a minority sport with an ever decreasing fan base. -

Makes no difference if he is Tory or not all politicians are just out for themselves and their mates anyway. -

Chin up guys enjoy your speedway while you still have it, finishing bottom is better than having no team. -

Couldn't Peterborough try and push the regulations in the interest of speedway & have Chris Harris guest for Hans Andersen? I'm sure that would work. -

What a result, Doyle leading from the front King back on song Batch seems to have found consistently & they are all working as a team. I was one who had grave concerns about building a team so far under the points limit. However as the riders have got into the grove I think it's shown have a group who wants to pull together & actually ride for Ipswich is as we speak paying dividends. -

In many ways it is a ridiculous sport, however naming an old style number 8 when using RR isn't. It's something that should happen. On another note looking at some old photos of Ipswich circa 1990 they had a squad of 11 riders & no doubling up. Speedway the only sport to have spent 30 years in reverse! -

Didn't they have to re declare their line once it was found using Knudsen was illegal? What a shambles! -
One thing I have never understood about king's Lynn is it's a great race track fairly well supported but they also have more wooden spoons than Delia Smith.

To be honest you were just crap end of!
-
But to half the clubs that were in existence when I started attending in 89 and those in attendance at the remaining venues has at least halved since then. The race to the bottom continues apace!

I'm not sure it's just a case of the premiership. 16 'professional' tracks in the UK and not enough riders to fill those without doubling up & guests. I haven't looked to see how many riders double up frankly I have better things to do, however I would suggest if doubling up was taken away you might have enough riders to fill 6 teams? Radical overall required as has been the case for probably the last 20-30 years .

I really want to see Poole continue well in to the future unlike some I have a soft spot for the pirates. I also really want to see speedways survival & for it to grow. I fear the issue for Poole is while it's the town's premium sport & has the support of the council, the council might decide to take the money from a developer rather than take a risk that speedway will still be around in 5 to 10 years. That as I see it is the major issue the rate of decline in attendance figures coupled with the amount of track closures doesn't make speedway seem like a good medium term risk. -

For a sport of the size of speedway the millions that did come in via Sky was massive however the money & the opportunity was completely wasted. When sky came onboard in 99 is was because they saw speedway as the next big thing. Don't also forget that at that time the polish broadcasters were onboard to show live UK speedway in Poland. That was one of the main reasons Gollob was riding in the league. It should all have been enough to restart the sport and put it in a far better position than we see it today. It's a case of what could have been! -

Maybe the curfew is similar to Jack Holders injuries when he is faced with riding at Ipswich?? -

To be far the riders of today are only taking advantage of the frankly rubbishe rules that the BSPA/L have introduced over many years. It was so much better when those who rode for your team only rode for your team & we're happy to chat and have a beer in the bar after the meeting. -

Yes Mike Bennett, I remember going to Lynn on good Friday mornings with Ipswich he was superb and then John Earey at Ipswich in the afternoon, they both helped to create a great atmosphere. Happy days -

Indeed he did, it sort of works but only because he excelled at commentary. It's on you tube somewhere. -

The issue isn't about winning or losing, as we had lost anyway. The issue is there was still a point up for grabs, given the form of Doyle & the inconsistent nights of the other 3 that were likely to be in heat 15 it's perfectly possible that Ipswich would have got a 5-1 to salvage a point. Maybe the fairest & most professional conclusion would be to give Ipswich an extra point or leave Ipswich with zero and downgrade Sheffield's win to a 2 point home win. -

The guy at Lynn in the early 90s was good along with if memory serves me right Peter York at Coventry and not forgetting Ipswichs own John eary -

I suspect the standard speedway line of 'if you don't like don't come' will be used. -

It's truly amazing & the sad thing is a few now seem to be blaming Eurosport for causing damage to the product. -

We can accept defeat, however there was a real chance of getting an away point. It's odds on Doyle would have won heat 14 & 15. Given the up & down nights the other heat 15 contenders had had its perfectly possible Ipswich could have got a 5-1 in heat 15. Someone said on here Sheffield only have access to the stadium for 6 hours on a Wednesday to prep the track on last night's evidence they would need a whole day just to put the fence up. -

How can you say Eurosport are damaging the reputation of British speedway? British speedway has done far more damage to its own reputation over the years the whole thing is just one big farce!
