Was in last weeks Speedway Star that Benji is looking to make a comeback. Ricky Wells can not make it pay, but Benji Compton (unlikely to average 6.5 in the premier league) wants to make a comeback. It makes you wonder who can and can not make the sport pay.
-
Thought Benji had retired. I was at Scunthorpe for what was announced as his last ever ride. He had engine failure at the tapes so not the finish he would have wanted.

Should not take as long to do this year. Looking at the minimum number of official fixtures over three years; 2011 13 League 6 Second Phase, and 1 KO Cup, total 20 2012 12 League 5 Pre-season tourney 1 KO Cup total 18 2013 12 League 2 Pre-season tourney 1 KO Cup total 15. Has there been any official statement about why the number keeps reducing (or failing this speculation from posters on this forum)?? With less fixtures could make it more financially challenging for the riders, and be many gaps in the fixure list for the fans.
-
Just speculation on my part, but was the article in the local newspaper about Wells wanting more money done in the hope of attracting some sponsorship for him??
-
If a rider averaging approx 6.5 in the premier league can not make it pay, how do lesser riders survive, financially???
-
Looking at the rest of the premier league teams announced so far, I do not believe any team, other than Sheffield can fit Wells in (unless they release another rider already signed). Would Wells be better off just riding Elite League only?
-
I was under the impression that they were sticking with the traditional Thursday night. That was the impression I get also but I would like to see some definate announcement from Hoggy or Machin, preferably soon.
-
I do not think they have set a price yet. Has it yet been announced offficially by management what day we will be racing? Perhaps they believe that fans will not commit to buying one until this is announced.
-
Enjoyed watching that. If you know of any more please post the details on here. Thanks
-
I hope it is Thursday, but if a decision has been made, why not put in on the website. I know of supporters who would go less often on Sunday's so if it is true would make sense to let the fans know, before they start thinking of what else to do on Thursday nights.

Is there likely to be a Xmas meeting at Scuuny this year. If so, if anyone knows dates times etc would like to know.
-
How about Josh Grajczonek Ricky Wells David Bellego and Stefan Nielsen. I think that would fit under the limit
-
Agree about Wells. Should be good signing. Was annoying at times last year when getting higher scores in the elite league, but we can not change the past. Looking to the future, think he could improve his Sheffield average in 2013.Whilst I would also like Stead back, if it means Sunday racing this could probably mean the end of Sheffield Speedway, if the crowd gets any smaller, so not worth the risk.
-
The poll appears to now be closed. Not much use to those like me who have only just heard about it. Stick with Thursday.
-
If they read this forum it is obvious most fans want Thursday.
-
Seems the overwheming opinion is the fans want speedway on Thursday. Any change would be a massive risk as it would be much easier to lose the old supporters than gain the new.
-
Get Ricky Ashworth back then.
-
Thursday for me. If changed to Sunday would go to about 25% of the matches only. Where as in the last 20 years, missed a total of 2 matches. Do the management want to lose fans who only miss 1 match every 10 years? Would like Steady back though. Any possibility of him doubling up with another Elite team.
-
If Sheffield wanted to change race day to Sunday, are other local tracks allowed to object if they think it would affect their attendance? If so would have thought Buxton would not be too happy about this. How many Sunday's could they run, would Stock Cars take priority on dates they wanted?
-
If they have lost fans to Redcar changing race nights would not automatically bring them back. They may not have enough time money or deisre to go to both

Why not stage it Wednesday 24 October at Owlerton?? A neutral venue is hardly going to produce much income. -

Copied from local paper website; Tigers season could be over Published on Wednesday 17 October 2012 15:23 TIGERS appear to have raced their last home meeting of the season. The postponement of last Thursday’s Premier Challenge Trophy clash with Ipswich has left the club with a lack of alternative dates as the Witches are also a Thursday night club. And club owner Neil Machin is far from satisfied with the situation. “It is an impossible situation,” he said. “We can’t stage the meeting on a Thursday because that’s Ipswich’s race night as well and our alternative race day, Sunday, is a non-starter because there are events planned for the next three weeks. “But we wouldn’t have been in this mess had the three northern tracks not taken it upon themselves to be grouped together. It was never a case of the six tracks being put together on a northern and southern basis, that was never agreed. I’ve asked the British Speedway Promoters’ Association to tell us who made the decision and they can’t answer. “It would make sense to have the groups on a regional basis and normally there’d be no problem with that - but had we been able to discuss the matter then it would have been made clear that grouping Ipswich, who have so many commitments, with another Thursday track would have been stupid.”
