  1. From www.scbgb.co.uk SCB Press Release 2014 Rider Clothing information2014 SCB REGULATIONS Riders and Manufacturers may be aware that the FIM have plans to introduce new Regulations regarding the standards of compliance for Riders Clothing. Whilst the SCB applaud the FIM in setting these new standards, for British domestic speedway in 2014 there will be no change to the current Regulations. As the 2014 Season progresses the SCB will monitor the situation concerning these new FIM Regulations and assess the possibility and practicality of implementation in 2015. We are making this early announcement so that Riders and Teams can place their orders with certainty. IMPORTANT NOTE Riders intending to compete in FIM Championship Meetings or indeed in other Countries should check the FIM Regulations (www.fim-live.com )and other Federations, eg SVEMO, DMU, DMSB, PZM etc.

  7. BATTLING Coventry Storm were unable to halt the Dudley steamroller at Brandon – but they could take a great deal of credit from a 41-49 defeat in their final National League fixture of the season. Missing three of their regular top five, the Storm looked to be on a hiding to nothing but pre-match predictions of a big Heathens win went out of the window as the home side worked hard to stay in touch. With skipper James Sarjeant and the injured Robert Branford and Luke Crang all unavailable, the Storm picked the perfect guest in Lewis Kerr who gave a magnificent performance for a paid-16 score against the strongest heat-leader trio in the league. Joe Jacobs also hit double figures as well as breaking the National League track record, and may have scored more but for an unfair disqualification in Heat 15 when he was clearly the victim of first-bend bunching - whilst in the lower order Martin Knuckey’s score of paid-five belied his efforts, despite riding with a cracked collarbone! When Dudley sailed into a 9-3 lead after two races the signs looked ominous for the Storm, but Kerr combined with Oliver Greenwood for a 5-1 over Paul Starke in Heat 3 in the first sign that the Dudley big guns wouldn’t have things all their own way. And after Nathan Greaves had looped at the start of Heat 7 and thankfully walked away unscathed, another win from Kerr over Starke in the re-run set up a Coventry 4-2 to level the scores. In the final analysis, the Heathens won the meeting in the next two races, both of which resulted in 5-1s and both of which featured their hugely impressive 16-year-old Max Clegg, the Heat 9 maximum seeing him team-ridden home by the alert captain Ashley Morris. The Storm had a stroke of fortune in Heat 11 when Dudley No.1 Lewis Blackbird ground to a halt whilst leading, and that sparked a trading of 4-2s between the sides with Kerr producing the ride of the night to switch inside Blackbird on the second lap and win a tremendous Heat 13. Starke scored the only rider-replacement points of the meeting for the Heathens by winning Heat 14 to secure their victory, and needing an advantage from the last to collect all four league points they were given assistance when Jacobs was hit by Starke on the first bend and wrongly disqualified when all-four back was the obvious verdict. Kerr again rode a fine race to split Morris and Starke in the re-run, almost moving inside the Heathens skipper off the fourth bend, but Morris held on to make sure of the result the title favourites wanted. Coventry boss Laurence Rogers said: “I’m sure the crowd were happy with that, and I really can’t see anyone moaning that we lost by eight in the end. We pulled it back to 21-21 at one stage, a couple of 5-1s knocked us back but I can’t throw criticism at any rider. “Lewis Kerr was superb, and he was part and parcel of the team as well. Some of his races on-track were unbelievable and the pass he made on Lewis Blackbird was top-drawer, so many thanks to him for his great efforts. “I think the referee must have been the only person in the stadium who didn’t see the Heat 15 incident – he said he didn’t see it. Joe was showing him his kevlars which were ripped, and it spoiled the end of a great meeting. Dudley had already won, but I can’t understand the decision.” COVENTRY 41: Lewis Kerr 15+1, Joe Jacobs 11, Oliver Greenwood 9+1, Martin Knuckey 4+1, Ryan Terry-Daley 1+1, James Shanes 1, Robert Branford r/r. DUDLEY 49: Paul Starke 13, Max Clegg 10+2, Ashley Morris 9+1, Lewis Blackbird 8, Dan Greenwood 5+1, Nathan Greaves 4+1, Gareth Isherwood r/r.
  8. COVENTRY Storm have been forced into a further change ahead of tonight’s National League clash with Dudley (7.30pm). The Storm have three of their top five riders missing and had lined up Steve Worrall as a guest, joining Lewis Kerr and the rider-replacement facility for Luke Crang – with Robert Branford, James Sarjeant and Crang all unavailable. However, National League regulations only permit facilities for two absent riders – any more than that have to be covered by a rider not in an NL team declaration with an average of 3.00. Storm will therefore revert to using the rider-replacement facility for Branford, whilst Ryan Terry-Daley steps in for Crang, with Conor Dwyer named as No.8. STORM: Joe Jacobs, Ryan Terry-Daley, Robert Branford R/R, Oliver Greenwood, Lewis Kerr, Martin Knuckey, James Shanes, Conor Dwyer (No.8).
  9. COVENTRY: Joe Jacobs, Luke Crang R/R, Steve Worrall, Oliver Greenwood, Lewis Kerr, Martin Knuckey, James Shanes, Ryan Terry-Daley (no.8). DUDLEY: Lewis Blackbird, Dan Greenwood, Paul Starke, Gareth Isherwood R/R, Ashley Morris, Max Clegg, Nathan Greaves, Lee Geary (no.8).

  11. COVENTRY Storm are in must-win territory when they face top-four rivals King’s Lynn, complete with 15-year-old sensation Robert Lambert, at Brandon on Friday (7.30pm). The Storm have just two National League fixtures remaining and the Young Stars, the Isle of Wight and Buxton are gaining ground with matches in hand. A maximum-points win over King’s Lynn would put the Storm six ahead of the Norfolk side, and still in with a very strong chance of reaching the play-offs – but defeat would leave them relying on several other results. Lambert’s arrival in the Young Stars team has been one of the stories of the season, and the teenager has shot from reserve – where he recently scored paid-20 at the Isle of Wight – to No.1 in the visitors’ line-up, with his future clearly destined to be at a much higher level. King’s Lynn are captained by the impressive Lewis Kerr, who has performed well at Premier League level for Newcastle this season, and Lewis Rose has also enjoyed some fine results in his first full campaign. The Storm won 48-42 at the Norfolk Arena back in April, but both sides have made several changes since then and a close contest is expected on Friday. Just as at Kent on Monday, where they went down to a damaging defeat, the Storm will use rider-replacement for injury victim Robert Branford, and a collection is planned for the unlucky British Under-21 Champion who faces a hefty repair bill after his crash at Edinburgh last week. Co-boss Blayne Scroggins said: “This is a massive meeting for us, it’s a real six-pointer with both teams fighting for a play-off spot and we need maximum points. “Monday was a big disappointment, it was a surprise to lose by 15 points to a team with only one win all season, but we have to move on from that now. “We’ll get the boys together before the meeting and have a good chat about what needs to be done, and they will all be up for the task. It’s not going to be easy, especially with Robert Lambert having been such a sensation in his first season, but it should be a great match.” Supporters are reminded that adult admission for the meeting is just £10, with all children FREE. COVENTRY: Joe Jacobs, Luke Crang, Robert Branford R/R, Oliver Greenwood, James Sarjeant, James Shanes, Martin Knuckey. KING’S LYNN: Robert Lambert, Lewis Rose, Jake Knight, Darren Mallett, Lewis Kerr, Shane Waldron, Shane Hazelden.
  12. Six EL teams have 3 DU riders, two have 2, two have 1, and one has none - (GSA Issue 28).
  13. If a rider qualifies from both, the 4th etc from the GP Challenge moves up.
  14. COVENTRY Storm are targeting a fourth away win as they visit fellow National League newcomers Kent on Monday evening (6.30pm). It’s the Storm’s final away fixture of the regular campaign, and the trip to face the Kings is to be followed by tough home matches against King’s Lynn and Dudley as they look to put enough points on the board to secure a play-off position. Storm have already secured impressive wins at King’s Lynn, Stoke and Buxton, and also scored a point on the Isle of Wight, but some dropped points at home have meant their top-four place is not guaranteed. They track an unchanged, full-strength line-up for the trip to the Central Park Stadium, Sittingbourne (ME10 3SB) and several of the riders have prior experience of the new circuit from guest-bookings or appearances in Open meetings. Kent, who are stronger than when they visited Brandon earlier in the season and track the impressive Steve Boxall at No.1, gained their first win at this level last Monday when they defeated Buxton 55-38 at home. Storm co-boss Blayne Scroggins said: “We’ve got to get points at Kent, we really want to get into the play-offs and continue what we’re enjoying this season. “The other teams are all playing catch-up so eventually we’re going to have to sit back and see what happens, but we need to put as many points on the board as we can, and hopefully we can take another away win.” KENT: Steve Boxall, Connor Coles, David Mason, Benji Compton, Ben Morley, Adam Kirby, Jack Kingston. COVENTRY: Joe Jacobs, Luke Crang, Robert Branford, Oliver Greenwood, James Sarjeant, James Shanes, Martin Knuckey.
  15. Brandon is both FIM & SCB licenced and had a full SCB inspection in May 2013. The air-fence was correctly installed - the referee would not have permitted the meeting to go ahead had there been any doubt. Our best wishes go to Chris Holder, Ricky Ashworth, and all riders injured while racing speedway for our entertainment.
  16. COVENTRY Storm return to full-strength for a crucial National League fixture against Buxton at Brandon on Friday (7.30pm). Joe Jacobs, who has been beaten just once in his last fourteen rides at home, is back at No.1 after missing the defeats against Mildenhall and the Isle of Wight due to Premier League commitments. And the Storm also welcome back Martin Knuckey at reserve after the Cornishman took a month out of the sport following an expensive and confidence-sapping run of problems in June. It’s a vital weekend for Coventry, who race their final away match of the regular season at Kent on Monday, and big haul of points from the two fixtures will leave the chasing pack with work to do as the race for the top four intensifies. Buxton are led by the National League’s top rider Charles Wright, who has an incredible 11.57 average, whilst the signing of teenager Liam Carr has helped them to away wins at Stoke and, most impressively, Mildenhall – a result which put the Hitmen into play-off contention themselves. The two sides fought out a dramatic encounter at the Hi-Edge Raceway last month, with the Storm edging a 47-46 win thanks to a superb Heat 15 ride from Luke Crang. Co-boss Blayne Scroggins said: “We’ve really missed Joe when he’s been racing for Glasgow in the Premier League with the only option being rider-replacement, and it has put added pressure on the boys. “Friday is a crucial meeting and we do need to get points on the board, but we won’t be taking Buxton for granted, especially after their stunning victory at Mildenhall recently. “Our support for the National League has been much better than I expected, the boys really do appreciate it, and it makes for a great atmosphere so I hope the fans keep coming along as the season is going to go right down to the wire.” There will also be an appearance from former World Champion Jan O Pedersen to promote the new British Speedway Academy, which includes three of the riders in Friday’s match. Storm duo Oliver Greenwood and James Shanes along with Buxton’s Liam Carr are amongst the five riders signed-up for the scheme which is set to offer on and off-track guidance to the sport’s promising youngsters. Fans can ask questions and join the membership scheme which will support both the Academy and the supplementary scheme Jan O is running. Supporters are reminded that all adult admission is just £10, with children admitted for free as the Storm look to boost their play-off chances. COVENTRY: Joe Jacobs, Luke Crang, Robert Branford, Oliver Greenwood, James Sarjeant, James Shanes, Martin Knuckey. BUXTON: Charles Wright, Matt Williamson, Tony Atkin R/R, Liam Carr, Adam McKinna, Tom Woolley, Ryan Blacklock.
  17. The penalty is 'disqualification' from the meeting, not 'exclusion' - SR 3.2 & 3.3
  18. From the Sheffield Star: Josh Auty makes a welcome a return to Sheffield colours tonight when they head to Rye House. Auty comes in for injured skipper Simon Stead in the No.1 spot as they look to bounce back from Thursday’s home defeat by the Rockets. Local youngster James Sarjeant has also been booked to deputise for injured reserve Damien Koppe and Joe Haines will have a late fitness test. Boss David Hoggart said: “We are delighted to welcome Josh back to the team even if it’s for just the one night. “He was a good rider for us during his spell as a Sheffield rider and he’s making good progress in his career with Birmingham in the Elite League. He’s a master of the Rye House track and was only too pleased to accept the opportunity to deputise for Steady. “It was a major disappointment to lose at home on Thursday, we simply threw too many points away and it wasn’t acceptable. “But on the positive side I was delighted to see Adam Roynon hit double figures. He was aggressive, he had the old fire back in his belly and he looked like the rider we know he’s capable of being. “I also thought James Sarjeant was good value and deserved five or six points for his efforts. He’s got something to offer the sport and I’m convinced he can enjoy a good career. “We are waiting on Joe and will give him every opportunity to make his decision after he was hurt in a training accident.” Sheffield are on second in a double header with Rye House v Glasgow starting at 6pm. Adult admission is £20 for both matches but if Sheffield fans only want to see their match normal admission prices will apply at the end of the first meeting. Tigers: Josh Auty, Joe Haines, Ricky Wells, Richard Hall, Adam Roynon, James Sarjeant, Facundo Albin.
  19. Charles Wright's guest appearance was quite legitimate. Once his new average comes into force he will not be eligible to guest for any NL team!
  20. PLYMOUTH’S team problems continue with new signing Seb Alden announcing that he has quit British speedway on the eve of his debut for the Devils. Alden was set to join the Devils as a replacement for Ty Proctor, who has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a neck injury. The Swedish star was due to ride for Plymouth in their Premier League match at home to Workington on Friday evening (July 19). However, he contacted Devils team manager Lee Trigger on Thursday with the news that would not be available and Plymouth moved swiftly to bring in Ipswich rider Leigh Lanham as a guest replacement at number one for the Workington fixture. Trigger issued a statement on Friday morning saying: “I am disappointed to announce that Seb Alden informed me yesterday that he had decided to quit British speedway with immediate effect due to personal reasons. “He was very apologetic but feels he cannot carry on in the UK any longer. “This leaves Plymouth back to where we started with Ty Proctor listed as number one. I will continue to search for suitable riders to strengthen our team as I always have done but, as you might imagine, it is not the easiest of tasks. “I have had very little time to sort out a full team this week and I have been heavily hampered also with very limited riders available to guest. I am also forced to use the dreaded rider replacement facility. I’m sure none of the supporters are a fan of this, along with myself, but I must abide by the rules. “I do my very best for the club and always try to use the best available guests. “As team manager, I have the very best interests of the club and supporters at heart and I will continue to push for my pre-season target of reaching the play-offs. “It will be a very tough job now but with a little bit of good fortune and the full backing of the vociferous St Boniface Arena crowd we will give it our very best shot.”
  21. My understanding of the way NL averages are calculated is the same as Jayne's. Islander15 - Rule 17.5 refers to an 'established MA' being issued - that is a transition from an assessed average - rather than after every rider's 4th meeting Martin - 17.4.3 doesn't actually state that it applies only to EL & PL (although you may feel that is implicit in the wording......)
  22. Jayne from Buxton posted this recently in another thread: A rider on an assessed average ie 3.00 will get a new average 7 days after he has completed the required number of total league matches ie 4.(regardless of whether they are home or away). A rider who already has an average will be subject to change again on a monthly basis (think it is around the 20th?? as the pl/el) after the total number of 4 league matches has been reached. The ruling was altered in the winter to reduce the number of matches from 6 to 4 and that it would be total matches only not 2H 2A
