King's Lynn V Isle Of Wight Weds 17th July @ 7.30pm

Jayne from Buxton posted this recently in another thread: A rider on an assessed average ie 3.00 will get a new average 7 days after he has completed the required number of total league matches ie 4.(regardless of whether they are home or away). A rider who already has an average will be subject to change again on a monthly basis (think it is around the 20th?? as the pl/el) after the total number of 4 league matches has been reached. The ruling was altered in the winter to reduce the number of matches from 6 to 4 and that it would be total matches only not 2H 2A -

COVENTRY Storm saw their unbeaten home National League record ended with a 40-48 defeat at the hands of reigning champions Mildenhall at Brandon. All twelve riders deserve great credit for completing the meeting in tricky conditions after pre-meeting rain, and in the final analysis it was the inexperience of several of the Storm team which counted against them. The meeting started with a wet track, which then generated plenty of dirt, and the Storm side suffered numerous falls and disqualifications, often when they were in positions to take race advantages, and the absence of Robert Branford and Joe Jacobs due to Premier League commitments was also felt. Mildenhall, though, were worthy winners on the night after adapting better to conditions with veteran Jon Armstrong putting on a near-perfect display of track craft, dropping just one point from five rides, whilst Ben Morley and Dan Halsey regularly put fast-gating to good use. The tone for an unusual night was set by the first race, when Morley was the only finisher after a string of incidents, and Luke Crang’s fall when on a 5-1 in Heat 2 was also the sign of things to come for the home side. The Storm found themselves five points down after Heat 6 but looked set to take points back in the next race when Josh Bates flew into the air-fence on turn two just as Crang had superbly rounded Armstrong for the lead. The re-run, though, saw Crang come to grief and as if to sum things up skipper James Sarjeant burnt a clutch out at the third time of asking, allowing Armstrong a clear run to victory. The unlucky Martin Knuckey fell at the end of the third lap in Heat 8, again when the Storm were on for a 5-1, with home debutant James Shanes very impressively taking his second win. But Shanes came off in Heat 10 in a close call with Bates as the home side were unable to make serious inroads, their last realistic chance coming when Bates scorched to the quickest time of the night to deprive Oliver Greenwood of maximum double-points in Heat 12. A Storm 5-1 in Heat 13 from Sarjeant and guest Charles Wright gave them hope, but with Armstrong controlling the final two races the Fen Tigers always had enough, and his win in Heat 15 ensured they would take maximum points from the meeting. The result essentially has the effect of cancelling out the Storm’s win at King’s Lynn, from which they took three points, whilst they do have the four-point win at Stoke to fall back upon, but they may well need to win at another away venue to compensate for this loss if they are to finish in the top four. Co-boss Blayne Scroggins said: “We’ve got three riders who are racing in their first season, some of them haven’t been riding speedway for long at all and they struggled. “Mildenhall adapted better than we did – as the meeting went on we got a bit better, but we struggled early on in conditions that weren’t raceable and I’d say were just about rideable. “We got the boys together afterwards and told them to forget about tonight, conditions weren’t ideal but we are still a top-four team and we can definitely make the play-offs. We’re good enough to do that, and that’s what we’re pushing for.” *JAMES Sarjeant and Robert Branford represent the Storm in Sunday’s National League Pairs at Mildenhall (4.30pm start). COVENTRY 40: Oliver Greenwood 13+1, James Sarjeant 10, Charles Wright 7+1, James Shanes 7, Luke Crang 3+1, Martin Knuckey 0, Joe Jacobs R/R. MILDENHALL 48: Jon Armstrong 14, Ben Morley 10, Josh Bates 8+1, Dan Halsey 8, Michael Neale 5, Ryan Terry-Daley 3+2, Aaron Baseby r/r.

We were having this discussion earlier, and no-one else sprang to mind!

Adam's 3-point average has nothing to do with his age!

That annotation on the Green Sheets isn't particularly clear, but it refers to the eligibility to guest in the Premier League. Charles is a perfectly legitimate guest for Robert Branford tonight.

From www.speedwaygp.com: SGP racers Krzysztof Kasprzak and Niels-Kristian Iversen must wait even longer for their shot at GP Challenge places after their qualifying semi in Esbjerg was rained off again on Sunday. It has been confirmed the Danish champions will not restage the meeting and a new date and venue is yet to be confirmed. With the GP Challenge at Poole on August 24, there is still plenty of time to squeeze the fixture into the calendar. But with SGP, Monster Energy FIM Speedway World Cup and FIM Speedway Under-21 World Championship meetings occupying many Saturday slots, it could have to be scheduled on a weekday. Heavy rain forced the meeting to be delayed on Saturday and it did not relent overnight, leaving the circuit unfit for action.

Dudley Heathens V Coventry Storm - Tuesday 11th June
NeilWatson replied to NeilWatson's topic in National League Speedway
COVENTRY Storm were brought down to earth in a big way by local rivals Dudley who romped to a 62-30 win at Monmore Green on Tuesday. The Storm went into the meeting off the back of impressive wins over King’s Lynn and Stoke in their last two National League outings, but they were well beaten by a very impressive Heathens outfit in the Black Country. The home side provided twelve of the fifteen race winners and also only ran two last places, with their teenage reserves Max Clegg and Nathan Greaves playing starring roles as they covered admirably for the injured Gareth Isherwood. British Under-21 Champion Robert Branford had the most success for the visitors, winning two races and also denying home man Lewis Blackbird a maximum with a fine passing move in the last heat of the night. Joe Jacobs was the Storm’s only other winner, but he was also involved in a spectacular accident in Heat 13 when he clipped team-mate James Sarjeant as they exited the fourth bend, with Heathens captain Ashley Morris having nowhere to go and flying over Sarjeant. Fortunately there were no injuries but it completed a tough night for the Storm captain who fell in his first ride when chasing Blackbird and also saw his attempt for double-points in Heat 9 foiled by Paul Starke and Darryl Ritchings. The Storm also struggled in the lower-order, although Luke Crang – making his first visit to Monmore – did improve as the night went on, taking a decent third place in Heat 12, whilst two races later he and Brendan Johnson held a 5-1 position until Crang got too close to his team-mate on the third bend and had to bale out, with Dudley’s Darryl Ritchings doing well to lay his machine down and prevent serious damage. Three 5-1s in the first four races had put the Heathens in full control, although with the gap only increasing by another two points in the next three heats the Storm still had ambitions of salvaging a league point. But Heats 8 and 9 both went the way of the home side by the maximum margin and that meant it was damage limitation, with a further brace of 5-1s in Heats 13 and 14 after the various crashes virtually ensuring the Heathens would go through the 60-point barrier. The Storm at least get the chance to bounce back quickly when they face Kent in their next National League fixture at Brandon on Friday (7.30pm). Co-boss Laurence Rogers said: “It was very disappointing because we came here thinking we could do something, but Dudley didn’t make any mistakes and we just weren’t at the races today. “Robert rode with his head and used his track craft which was great, but I don’t really know where to pinpoint it with the rest, it was just a bad night for us. “It wasn’t through any lack of effort, though, and hopefully we can bounce back with a very good win on Friday.” DUDLEY 62: Ashley Morris 13+1, Paul Starke 13, Lewis Blackbird 12+1, Max Clegg 12+1, Nathan Greaves 7+3, Darryl Ritchings 5+3, Gareth Isherwood r/r. COVENTRY 30: Robert Branford 14, Joe Jacobs 6, James Sarjeant 4, Luke Crang 3+1, Brendan Johnson 2, Martin Knuckey 1, Ryan Terry-Daley 0. By courtesy www.coventrybees.co -
COVENTRY Storm travel to Dudley for an eagerly-anticipated National League clash on Tuesday. It’s a big week for the Storm, who also have a home match against fellow newcomers Kent at Brandon on Friday as they look to build on their positive start to league competition. Storm faced Dudley in the early-season Travel Plus Trophy and were beaten 35-60 at Monmore Green, but much has changed since then and they will make the trip with real optimism following recent results. Robert Branford won his British Under-21 title at Monmore in April, and Joe Jacobs and James Sarjeant have also had good results at the Black Country venue in the past. There is one change to the Storm team, as reserve Tommy Fenwick has stood down from the side due to the pressure of work commitments and finances. The Storm may look to promote from the Midland Development League for a full-time replacement, but have considered various candidates for this week including locally-based Conor Dwyer, who reported he is not up to full race-fitness as yet after his serious arm injury. Storm have therefore booked Ryan Terry-Daley to stand in at reserve, with thanks to Mildenhall promoter Michael Lee for his co-operation. Terry-Daley has made several appearances for the Fen Tigers in the last year. Coventry co-boss Blayne Scroggins said: “This is our biggest meeting of the season so far. It’s a huge test for the boys, we have been riding well recently but Dudley are the team we need to try to get something from. “The boys are fired up as always and keen to improve on their showing in the early season challenge match. We just need to remain focused and continue where we left off after the Stoke meeting with our form, and give 100 per cent - that’s all we can ask.” DUDLEY: Ashley Morris, Gareth Isherwood, Paul Starke, Dan Greenwood R/R, Lewis Blackbird, Max Clegg, Nathan Greaves. COVENTRY: Joe Jacobs, Martin Knuckey, Robert Branford, Brendan Johnson, James Sarjeant, Ryan Terry-Daley, Luke Crang. By courtesy www.coventrybees.co
