Something I have wondered about for several years. I mean some of the fans on here openly admit they can't remember much about the racing. Probably the same ones who are forever getting out of their seats at Cardiff and disturbing everyone else so they can go and fetch their next drink.

I had to laugh at that Iris as the description fits me perfectly. I've stood (or sat) on the same step for the past 20 odd years at Brandon and the people I'm with have been in that very same place for over 30 years. It's most annoying when the attendance is bigger and our spot has been taken. I like to be able to see without other fans standing in my way. I don't like the sun in my eyes and I like my space! That's the reason I always go on the 4th bend at Brandon and why I'd hate it on the first bend where it's usually packed out. And yes I'd never go to Poland with their flares and extrovert fans. Sad aren't I?

Hansfan sounds pretty desperate. Can you help him/her? It was Newport but at this late stage I suppose anything would be useful. http://www.speedway-forum.co.uk/forums/ind...showtopic=24582 -

I don't know about nutrients! I'm trying to cut her weight down now she isn't galloping around all over the place. She has always been a bit fussy with food and I must have tried every dog food on the market, but for the past couple of years she really enjoys what she has and licks the bowl clean. A potted meat sandwich in the morning, a mixture of Iams, Bakers & tiny pieces of liver with some gravy (sorry AndyM - not home made!) in the evening. Yummy! -

Thanks for that information Hansfan. I've not noticed any reaction so far and no improvement either unfortunately. I was also sent a PM from someone on the forum saying her dog was on Metacam for 5 years and she developed a stomach ulcer and subsequently had to be put to sleep. That's rather worrying. Jemma is only 8 and I want to do what is best for her but I wouldn't like to think she's got to be on drugs for the rest of her life. Apologies to everyone else for straying off the topic, but Jemma is a regular visitor to Cardiff for the G.P. weekend and does stay in a hotel room. What's getting worse - the hotel situation or the G.P? I agree about hotel prices but that's just the way it goes. If you book a holiday during the school half-term or summer break it's always much more expensive than during term time. Same sort of thing. If you mean the G.P's are getting worse - I don't agree. The format is a lot better now and the racing. I've just transferred the 2005 video to DVD and I reckon it was the best one yet. -
You could have Star Lady's room/s if you are quick enough! http://www.speedway-forum.co.uk/forums/ind...showtopic=24433

Just an idea but I think you should put this in the Speedway Discussions section as I'm sure more people will read it in there.

We're very lucky at Coventry as we regularly get to hear the JAP engines in the second half. Certainly a lot louder than today's bikes which begs the question weren't there any NIMBY'S around in those days moaning about the noise like there are today?

Actually Jemma is having Metacam every day prescribed by the vet last week and I've got to take her back on the 28th to see if there is any improvement. The worst thing is not being able to chase her ball as that's all she has ever been interested in when out walking, but I can't risk her running around now. I met someone last week whose dog had the same problems and he was giving him Ibrofuren (?) - one tablet in the morning and one at night. I know you can give animals some drugs intended for humans but I wouldn't dare do that. In fact I mentioned it to the vet and she said it could cause liver damage in a dog. Anyway, back to these rooms in Cardiff...... -

Might manage to bring Ray. Yes, two dogs this year but Molly will have to go in boarding kennels in Cardiff for the weekend. And we will have to watch how much walking we do this time being as Jemma is crippled up with arthritis. Do you reckon you could place your healing hands on her, Addy, if we happen to bump into you? -
Premier Travel Inn Price Increase
Gemini replied to holbeachfans's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I think you will find that most Hotels/B & B's also put their prices up for the G.P. weekend. I know ours has gone up quite considerately every year since they realised there was a big demand for rooms. I don't even know how much it is this year until I get presented with the bill when we leave. I'd rather not know. -

Must be me then as I've always enjoyed Cardiff and think the racing has got better each year. The atmosphere has deteriorated a little though, mainly due to the music being quieter than it was for the first couple of years. PUMP UP THE VOLUME! It saves me from having my ears shringed for 12 months. -

Got to agree with Rabbit on this one. Fair enough cancelling now if you object to the price hike for Cardiff weekend, but not to do it at the last minute when there are others who would take the room/s. -
That's the opinion of a Poole fan though and not everyone would agree. Astra1 for example posts (in the right section!) "At least you will be able to see the racing at Reading. when i went to Poole for the WTC i couldn`t see a thing. we were stood on the 1st bend and by the time the stadium had filled up i was swamped by people pushing to get to the front and i had to make do with catching a glimpse of the riders helmet covers as they went past."

Reading Host World Cup?
Gemini replied to Rema & Ben's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Pity it can't be held at Coventry then everyone would be able to see okay as the stadium holds 20,000 or more. But I suppose the dogs have priority these days. -

Probably not down, but remaining steady. For everyone who has said they're not going there are others who are branching out to Cardiff for the first time. I know of at least four newcomers this year myself. I'm sorry Star Lady is no longer going because of the Travel Inn price rise, but was wondering how much this works out to for each person? Is it two sharing a room or more? Perhaps it's not so extortionate when broken down. As for the tatty room I think you should have complained if you weren't satisfied. Must admit we have always stayed in Travel Lodges rather than the Inn's because they allow the dog/s and the rooms have always been very nice and clean with good furnishings. -
Please no!! I hate statistics and am not the slightest bit interested in them. If I had known there would be loads of "facts & figures" then I wouldn't have bought the book. It was brilliant and thanks for the chance to have a little insight into Simon's life & family, as well as his speedway/longtrack career. Great stuff.

Another vote in favour of keeping the G.P. at the Millenium Stadium. This must surely be a record - so many agreeing with Steve Shovlar.

World Cup To Be Staged At Reading

What's the scenery like round Reading? Any chance of lying on the beach beforehand, going for a boat trip or relaxing whilst looking at fantastic views across a harbour? ..... -

Cardiff Seating Plan?
Gemini replied to Helmut Schtuck's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Helmut....It isn't very clear I agree. Your best bet is to go through the motions as if you are going to order the tickets at the price you intend to pay, then look at the seating plan to see where they are. For instance I've just checked £35 and they seem to be for the L sections in the lower tier. Ticket price £29 - there are a lot of different seats in the higher tier around the stadium, U sections. I'm not sure, but if looks like the popular middle tier seats are already sold out in a lot of areas. If you experiment and look at the seating plan you will be able to hopefully get the tickets you want so you then just carry on and order them. Hope I've not confused you even more but no-one had answered your query so I thought I'd try to help. -
B S I Get It Right
Gemini replied to Mr Snackette's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I think it's a bad idea as well. Right at the end of a Bank Holiday week when a lot of people will be away and have to cut short their holiday to get to Cardiff. -
Thank you. I love a happy and successful ending to a mystery. Here is the cutting I was referring to and now I know that it is indeed the Howard Cole I will add him to my scrapbook. http://community.webshots.com/photo/153283...22241446HDcPZr# I wonder who the other rider is?

Thanks for the info. so far. If this is indeed the Howard Cole then I know he went on to have a very good career in speedway, but I'm a bit confused about the George bit? Was that his first name? Where's Norbold when I need him?
