  1. Great to see you too. What a lovely surprise! Don't make it so long between visits next time or I might not be around.
  2. Does he mention why he very rarely used to make an appearance at Leicester? He always seemed to be on the missing list when the Blackbird Road fixture came round.
  3. I think the Coventry promoter was approached but the meetings couldn't be fitted in around his dog racing. Shame because Brandon would obviously be the ideal place, having previously held Grand Prix's (or is that Grands Prix?) There is plenty of room, good track, excellent facilities and food, trendy music, disco in the bar afterwards...... What more could we wish for? Sadly it looks like big meetings will never be held at Coventry again. Edit....Looks like S.C. beat me to it. Serves me right for not using one sentence.
  4. Yes I am, along with the better half. It would be lovely to say hello and put a face to the name. You should be able to meet both the pooches as well. We stand on the 3rd/4th bend with a few friends....well sit really as we have some fold-up chairs, which the dogs are usually lying underneath. Look forward to meeting you.
  5. Yes, a great show Chris. Thanks for doing your bit for Leicester Speedway.
  6. Where's Liontamer when you need him? There aren't that many ex-Leicester fans on here really - Hazzman, Sir L, Lt, me, you.....Surely that's not it?
  7. I like the sound of the 9th too then I can make better arrangements for the dogs if the G.P. is not at the end of a holiday week and they are both already with us, as happened this year. I don't want to put Molly in kennels again.
  8. My question to Ken would be are the Leicester group really any nearer to getting the Lions back on track than they were over 20 years ago? Has any progress been made?
  9. Not had a reply yet unfortunately. I don't suppose they will answer, but we are bound to get some information on the forum before too long.......hopefully.
  10. Why don't you just delete your first post? No-one will know then.
  11. I must admit I did email Benfield Sports with a bit of praise following the G.P. Although I commented that the chance of the 2008 G.P. being in March wasn't going down very well with members of the speedway-forum, I didn't actually ask if it was true. I will send another email asking, also a request for the date of the 2007 G.P. If I get a reply I will let you know.
  12. Agree with you Hansfan. My memory is terrible so you'll have to excuse me if I get this wrong, but I thought the Australia - Sweden thing was the other way round? Didn't the Australian duo not try very hard in their race against Sweden, which messed it up for England? So if we are still blaming riders for things that supposedly were done on purpose then we should include Jason Crump and Leigh Adams in the "hate campaign" as well.
  13. I bet your Mum is chuffed to bits with this one. http://community.webshots.com/photo/551045...043386490uODQLb .....and this one. http://community.webshots.com/photo/551045...043386490dchCGL .....and yet another. http://community.webshots.com/photo/551045...043386490zirPVd If you were my daughter I might just have to kill you for publishing those.
  14. Chris Harris? Or do you think he has reached his peak now.
  15. I'm more interested in 2007 at the moment as I have plans to make. Will the date go back to the usual second Saturday in June, presuming this year it was moved because of the football World Cup?
  16. Sorry Hazzman I don't know when the next reunion is. If I hear anything I will let you know.
  17. Sorry I haven't replied before but I was on holiday last week, followed by the usual weekend in Cardiff. I'm pretty sure the photo of Ken was taken in 1960 and it was at a cycle speedway track off Anstey Lane in Leicester. Stefan Kwoczala was also riding. Now here is a bit of useless information for you - at one time Leicester had no less than 13 tracks operating, but like speedway there has been a decline and unfortunately now there is only one at Slater Street.
  18. I've got one of those somewhere which I bought for my son when he was about 7 or 8. You know - when you can dress them in what you like and they don't complain.
  19. Help yourself to any photos that you want Chris. Do I go to Coventry? Have been since Leicester closed in '83 with my trusty 4 legged friend, but as you can imagine it was hard transferring to our deadliest enemy. I supported the visiting teams for a few years, but then made friends with a group of Bees fans so had to conform. If you ever have a walk round we are on the 3rd/4th bend. You can't miss us as the crowd is pretty sparse round that way and there are normally two Border Collies with us. (Won't be there on the 29th though as we are on holiday.)
  20. I've got a few photos of the stadium on my webshots album if you are interested. I suppose it was a bit grotty inside but the outside of the building was quite striking. I'm surprised it wasn't listed, but like most things in Leicester beautiful buildings get knocked down. http://image32.webshots.com/33/7/29/46/243...46LCoGFw_fs.jpg
  21. I bet you wouldn't recognise him now! Someone had to tell me who he was at a Leicester Reunion as I had no idea. White hair and beard. He could get a job at Christmas. Mind you that doesn't say a lot because I was sitting next to Vic White (apparently!) and he was looking at one of my scrapbooks when he laughed and said "Am I in here?" I wondered what he meant but the penny dropped when I got a dig in the ribs from the better half and he whispered in my ear who I was talking too. Photo of Colin Cook here. http://community.webshots.com/photo/109618...047007148HyXzIZ
  22. Ah Colin! How could I have forgotten him. Great racer and I loved to watch him ride. I don't know where he is now - perhaps down East Anglia way still, with his wife Sue and about a dozen children. Colin rode for the Lions between 1979 and 1983 I believe. I can remember him having a really bad crash at Leicester when he got hooked up on the fence, similar to the one Mike Lanham had. A good memory though is him beating Ole Olsen round Blackbird Road in a Leicester v Coventry match. That went down very well with the Lions fans.
