  1. I've come across an old newspaper cutting about a George Cole, aged 10, who rode a scaled down speedway bike with a genuine racing engine in the frame. He also acted as mascot for Wolverhampton at their Brayfield track. Not sure what year this would be - possibly sometime in the 50's - but perhaps the mention of Wolves riding at Brayfield might give a clue? I was wondering if George Cole, whoever he was, ever made it to being a speedway rider and would he have been any relation to Howard Cole, aka Kid Bodie? Anyone know anything about him?
  2. Is that supposed to be a compliment?
  3. Bit further away next year it seems. We are in N4, same as before, which is nearer the 1st bend. I think N1 is towards the second bend?
  4. Received my copy today. Thanks Tony. It looks brilliant and I look forward to reading it when I can prise it off my husband. Great to know there will be a book about Kenny Carter coming out next May as well. Will have to get my name down for that one.
  5. Talking to yourself again Joanne? Yes, £29 are the cheapest tickets. You can't beat the middle tier on the 1st bend at that price and if you want to be there you should definitely be thinking about purchasing your tickets soon before they sell out.
  6. I went to one of those as well. Long Eaton 65 - Middlesbrough 0 because they packed up and went home. How boring is it watching two riders going round for a 5 - 0 in every race!

Well, put it this way. If he wore a red suit on Christmas Eve he would be a dead ringer for Father Christmas.
  8. I like to keep my mind active. It helps to stop the brain cells dying.
  9. OR....the race at Coventry in the 80's (?) which was re-run 3 times with a rider excluded each time, leaving just Rick Miller. He was then excluded by referee Geoff Dalby for not making a bona fide attempt to race because he was entertaining the fans popping wheelies on his way round. Race result 0 - 0. I shouldn't think that happens very often. You could probably get more details from the man himself as he is a member of the forum......unless Ross has scared him off.
  10. Must make watching the speedway very difficult.
  11. A friend who is not a speedway fan, but always goes to Cardiff and enjoys it, wants to branch out a bit more next year and take his Polish girlfriend to one of the G.P's in Poland. I have told him that Bydgoszcz is probably the best to go to, but am I right? Also any advice on the best airline to use and place to stay for a few days would be appreciated. Thanks.
  12. .......It's quite refreshing to know that someone is even more confused than me.
  13. So whereabouts is he living these days Norbold? Presumably somewhere in the Norfolk area being as he never gets to any of the Leicester reunions? I'm feeling quite pleased with myself actually because I chose him purely by looking at a 40/50? year old photo and trying to imagine what he would look like today. Knowing my reputation with faces I think I did quite well. I hate coconut so I don't mind losing.
  14. Damn!! Beaten to it, if you are referring to the Leicester photo then that is the answer I had decided on after trawling through my 3 Leicester books, written by Alan Jones, the latest one "The Lions Roar" just published if anyone is interested. My second choice was Alf Parker. Lionheart.......Ivor Brown passed away a few months ago.
  15. Not long seen John Boulger so I knew I could rule him out, also Jack Winstanley, Charlie Barsby, John Hart, Norman Storer, Bruce Forrester, Vic White, Keith White, Eric Hockaday, Ray Wilson, Malcolm Brown, Chris Pidcock. So that's the list of who it isn't. Now for the list of who it could be..............
  16. Strewth! As someone who sat next to Vic White and was showing him my speedway scrapbooks but still didn't know who he was until I got a dig in the ribs from Summit, there is not a cat in hell's chance of me recognising this rider. It doesn't help that I can't recall seeing him at any of the Leicester reunions either so I will have to leave it to the other Leicester experts.
  17. Well I know how some actresses manage to get special favours, but I'm not too sure about speedway riders.

Did you go to the last Leicester Reunion Madbiker? (The John Boulger one.) I think I saw someone who looked like a mad biker - long hair, black leathers - or it could have been Ray Wilson.......

At Coventry too. Mind you Leicester usually thrashed them on their own track as well as at Blackbird Road. Most notable memory (well I can't remember that much) was Mark Courtney beating Ole Olsen in a race at Leicester when he kept trailing his leg through a deep puddle on every lap, giving Olsen a right soaking. I suppose it wouldn't be allowed nowadays - health & safety and all that - as there was a risk Olsen could have had his vision impaired by all the muddy water. It was very funny though.

    Rick Miller

That's really surprising news Rick as one likes to believe what a promotion says. If this is true then they have certainly gone down in my estimation.
  22. Yes, but that doesn't matter Nevsy as the hotel just book us all in for the correct date. (Everyone there booked again for 2006 before they left.) What I'm more bothered about is the 215 mile journey from one end of Wales to the other and having to come within about 45 miles of home to do it! I won't be very happy leaving Molly in kennels either. I think this change of date is going to affect quite a few people who normally go on holiday that week (May Bank Holiday.) It certainly caught us out and upset our plans.
  23. It's already running in the Grand Prix section. Try here....... http://www.speedway-forum.co.uk/forums/ind...showtopic=21580
