  1. Can you explain my jokey reply to his post about the Phonics album now please? It seemed to go over his head. "Does it involve a lot of shouting? Don't think I'd like it."
  2. Can you be quiet when you are making your way back then Falcace. We are at The Town House in Cathedral Road. .. ..
  3. If you want to get anywhere near the stadium you had best arrive at the crack of dawn. I'm sure others will be able to make some suggestions, but we ended up about a mile out of Cardiff at the park 'n' ride towards Cardiff Bay in 2001. Plenty of parking spaces up that way, but it's a good walk. Depends if you are going to be sober at the end of the Grand Prix.
  4. Man of few words then, unlike a typical Gemini who tends to go on a bit.
  5. Congratulations to Ove Fundin on reaching his 70th birthday today. He's not putting his feet up either as he has been walking from his home in the South of France through Belgium, Germany, and Denmark to reach Transas - hopefully in time to celebrate his birthday. What a man! The most vivid memories I have of Ove are of a determined racer who was most upset if he lost a race. Seemed a bit of a loner and not very well liked by the fans. I remember seeing him sitting all alone in the pits at Leicester in the 1950's getting some abuse from the Leicester fans and being a typical emotional teenager I felt really sorry for him. I wrote him a letter via The Firs at Norwich and a couple of weeks later was surprised to get a personal reply from him all the way from Malmo. I still have this letter. Any more memories?
  6. Yipee....Someone who goes back as far as me. Johnny (?) Beaumont was actually Les. Bet you remember now. Others from the Hunters - Vic Pitcher, Len Williams, Jock Grierson, Jack Winstanley, Johnnie Carpenter, Joe Bowkis, Charlie Barsby, Cyril Page, Jack Mountford, Roy Bester, Dennis Parker, Gordon McGregor, Ron Phillips, Johnnie Green, Alf Hagon, Harry Bastable, Bryan Elliott and not forgetting the most successful of the lot Ken McKinlay (whilst they were called the Hunters.) There were of course many, many others. Oooh! I am coming over all nostalgic. Thanks for that.
  7. Oh. dear! Got to agree with two people and I usually only reserve this statement for Beowulf. (Incidentally where is he these days?) Wes lake..... Fully agree with what you said. I don't know why people do so much moaning about the man-made tracks. They are not that bad and usually produce a decent amount of racing, even if sometimes it's by riders making mistakes or hitting bumps/ruts. I've seen a lot of boring one off World Finals over the years. Lupus....Also agree with you. In fact I did criticize the fact Mark was given 5 points in an earlier posting knowing that I would probably upset the Loram lovers. Thank goodness Loramski Legends is not around. Addict I can deal with...... ..
  8. Not us - we were safely tucked up in our hotel bed by then.
  9. He's a Gemini - say no more! Young at heart. I read about this in the Speedway Star last week I think (can't find it now!) He is planning on arriving on his 70th birthday.
  10. Don't know about this but if it was the season Leicester had the same seven riders it was 1969. You mention Ray Wilson, Johnny Boulger, Graham Plant and Norman Storer so it must have been somewhere around then. The other riders were John Hart, Malc. Brown and Dewaye Keeter. I'm sure someone else with a better memory will come up with the answer. Welcome to the forum, by the way.
  11. I feel a bit out of place on here because I was hoping some of you were "oldies" like me. Unfortunately I can remember Norway's Sverre Harrfeldt. His best performance in a World Final was coming 2nd in 1966. That's my lot, but I'm sure Norbold will be able to add some more.
  12. Are plastic bottles okay? Seem to remember taking some pop in with us last year.
  13. Just going by what Mark said in this week's Speedway Star when he said the injury has "a long way to go yet" so it didn't seem to me very likely he would be fit enough to ride. I think the point I was trying to make was whether he should have been awarded the points or not without having set foot on the track. It has not happened before but you can bet your life it will happen again now the precedent has been set. Hopefully Mark will be fully recovered for the British Grand Prix.
  14. Yes, indeed. Doesn't seem fair that Lee Richardson, for example, rode his hardest and only ended up with 2 more points than Mark who didn't ride at all. Not only that but we had to watch races with only 3 riders because Loram had pulled out. What about Andreas Jonsson? He might as well have done the same just to get the 5 points. I think this is setting a very dangerous precedent, but what do others think?
  15. Brilliant answer Steve. Can't you think of any more?
  16. We have discussed this on another thread ....... http://www.speedway-forum.co.uk/forum/view...opic.php?t=1652 ..... and I don't think they are being banned altogether, but they are trying to cut down on re-fills. Wonder if that means we will be searched as we go in. Should be interesting.
  17. It's a bitch so of course she's clever enough to let herself in.
  18. I don't know the answer to your question but I'd like to know where she got her carpets from. Nearly sixty years wear is remarkable! I might try to go for the record now as I think the carpet in our bedroom has been down for about 25 years. All the backing is long gone but the carpet itself looks pretty good still.
  19. Gemini, Summit and Pawprint will be staying again at The Town House hotel on Cathedral Road, Cardiff. Fully booked up by Speedway fans but I don't know if any are forum members.
  20. Would love to go and support Carmarthen's meeting but unfortunately Coventry have a match against Oxford at 6pm. so we will be going there as usual on our way back from Cardiff.
  21. Charlie Barsby, but this was so long ago I don't suppose anyone even remembers him. :-( Ah! Memories of my teenage years and him being my favourite rider and all that. Local lad made good in the Leicester Hunters team, blond, handsome. Gosh I must keep calm as I have got to go and have my blood pressure tested in a couple of hours.....
  22. Now that's a good idea to keep the pub we want to use empty until everyone arrives. Just ask Pratty to go in there for a bit.
  23. There is a photo in our local paper tonight of the Stadium Grandstand being demolished in 1985. :-( Also a piece about Leicester announcer Ken Mason, who also helped out with commentating at Coventry, Cradley and Halifax. Credit where it's due I must admit although we haven't got a Speedway team, the Leicester Mercury regularly has articles about our sport and used to give updates on David Howe's career. Since he joined Wolverhampton though I haven't seen anything.
