ive no got a scoob where i'm sitting
i'll need to ask Pammie's dad!
mind you, i dont think it matters where i'm sat, i'll prob fall off the thing if previous form's anything to go by
twas me! nice to meet you too (sorry i didnt say much - was actually quiet for once!)
i saw a fleeting glimpse of Joanne as she said goodbye to Pammie at the end of the sunday afternoon meeting but didnt get a chance to say hello myself (too quiet again!).
back at work today. unfortunately, i think ive got the flu cos i feel terrible. i was gonna post my thoughts on the weekend on a separate 'lighthearted' thread but dont have the energy (ok everyone - get those violins at the ready )
suffice to say, i had an absolutely suave time: very good racing, decent Dutch (etc!) music, good food, strong drink and great company.
i got mine for Christmas but have read a few wee bits (although not from the beginning ) so far, cos ive been pretty busy.
seems like a pretty decent read so far
i think mine might've arrived this morning but i guess i'll find out when i get home (our posties are a right lazy shower up here!).
was a wee bit worried cos i ordered it online and it said something about "we'll be in contact soon" but i heard nothing. then i got my visa bill on thurs / fri and it mentioned "football promotions" or whoever - thought my dad had been ordering more coaching manuals
look forward to reading it though
i remember seeing his 'van' (a bit bigger though!) at the Longtrack in Collier Street last year and being suitably impressed... and that was before i saw him race at Armadale!
well done young man
NL90? i remember that book - it was brilliant
i bought it when i was in my teens (many moons ago now sadly!) - that was the one with the bright yellow cover and the title in huge red letters?
i remember wondering what the riders thought if / when they read what he'd said about them!
while Mr Callaghan's book is about the PL, mine is a personal story about last season. lots of people from all over the country have commented on how theyve enjoyed reading it (including a certain Glasgow Speedway promoter who shall remain nameless! ).
of course, ive also got some 'controversial' comments included (i prefer to call them 'honest' but not to worry!) but no death threats as yet
Mike Hunter has mentioned handing over the responsibility for the Edinburgh programme at some point in the near future but, like Mr Callaghan, i'd prob get banned pretty quickly so i wont be the one taking over!!
sounds as if Mr Berry has read my book and thought "i like that kid's style, i think i'll have to write my own memoirs!"
as i said elsewhere, i'll prob buy it to see what the competition for the Christmas no.1 slot is like
PS there's loads of humour in my book too - hope he hasnt gone down that line as well - wouldnt want them to be too similar now, would we?
Gary Gugelielmi? i remember seeing him years ago at Powderhall. after the meeting, i strolled up to him in the pits and said "excuse me mister, how do you pronounce your name?"
he just looked at me and replied "Gary"
as for the underage guy, it was defo Neil - there was a story about it in one of those glossy A4 books, either Inside Line or ShaleTrail 2. i remember Inside Line having a cool 2 page spread about Jamie Luckhurst, thats the only reason i bought it! was a good read though
calling all Wimbledon fans (or, well, anyone actually!)...
years ago (early 80's i think), there was a junior called Jay Pleece. i'm pretty sure it was Wimbledon he rode for cos i followed Jamie Luckhurst's scores quite a bit!
anyway, if anyone knows where he is now, etc, i'd be very grateful.
thanks in advance!
something ive never quite been able to work out but...
in a TS ride, the pts (and the ride!) get ignored for the guy who has started on the handicap.
however, his partner still gets awarded a bonus pt (included in his average too!) if he finishes behind him.
how can you get a bonus pt for finishing behind someone who wasnt supposedly even there in the first place??
when i was a wee boy, i got the chance to go out onto the centre green at Powderhall and present a cheque (or whatever was in the envelope!) to the winner of the 2nd half final. although i was a Monarchs' fan, i secretly wanted Denzil to win cos i thought he was superb - i'm pleased to say my wish was granted as he romped home - ive still got the photo on the house
Alan Hartley was an accountant who, i believe, tried to hide his 'other job' from his main employers. he still floats around in second halves on his vintage machine and ive even had the privilege of meeting him (although i'm not famous enough to get an introduction!)
also, a while back (Powderhall days), i seem to remember Mike Lewthwaite going under a false name in some Scottish Junior meeting (or whatever it was!). someone more knowledgeable than me will tell you what his 'new handle' was.
