Nope. Tornqvist, Penfold, Juul Larsen, Horwood, Davey etc though for me its the shameless Wolbert by a country mile. To be fair to O'Malley he had a tidy style when in the mood however had poor equipment and being 16 was reliant on others to get him around. He didnt seem to get on with the other riders not even the Australians.

At 16 its a big challenge regardless of all the other circumstances. One for the long term and with his parents coming with him is hopefully more Nick Morris than Jayden O'Malley. Connor Coles has done a thoroughly decent job in the meantime.

Edinburgh v Glasgow Friday 24th May
MD replied to SharpenRake's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Absolutely though ht13 could have backfired granting the 0131 a TS ride in ht14. Hopefully the weather holds up for tomorrow night, cant be doing with another rain off. -
Two narrow defeats to arguably the best teams in the league isnt desperate just shows Eastbourne arent quite strong enough. It wont be that way every week.

Eastbourne v Glasgow (League) 18/5/19
MD replied to eaglesno1's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Eastbourne are using Eddie Kennett on 10.40 when in reality he is 2 points less than that in this league. Those 2 points could have given Eastbourne a 4/4.5 point rider in the middle order and had Bowtell at reserve. The problem is that with so few fixtures this year Kennett will take most of the season for his average to adjust. -

Eventful night and a tough win on the road at wee Armadale. Paid 8 for Connor Coles, think someone needs to have a word. Best wishes to TB, hopefully not out too long. -
Kennett won't be on a 10 point average all season, it will gradually reduce due to being inconsistent away from home.
-
On an average of 2.54 he's been thrown to the wolves in the middle order and on a hiding to nothing. You can't expect an average reserve to perform as anything else regardless of what number you put on his back. He may get a shot at reserve later in the year but its going to be a hard season for him.

Another decent meeting at Le Stade D'Ashfield despite the dust in the first five heats. Some good stuff from Cook, Lawson, Barker and a return to form for Summers. Eastbourne's 2 pointers had some good tussles with Connor Coles who doubled Luke Chessell's season long score in one meeting. Starkey still lacking speed and a decent gate but seems much more comfortable on the road, not always a bad thing. Onward to the wee team next Friday. -

He's got form for missing EDI. Van broke down en route last time. -

Our league has been sacrificed to make the big league look better. In reality most of this years Premier teams would have been Championship teams last season. The legacy of that is a ridiculously low points limit and the return of 2 pointers. This was largely a disaster in previous years with the odd exception. -
Jumped i reckon. All seems amicable.
-
That creates more problems than it solves. If there was another 2 pointer available we would have changed. LC has jumped too early in my opinion. We have only had 3 home meetings and he looked better on Friday than previously though was only going to get points from Danny Phillips.

Another decent meeting at the Field of Dreams. Jensen's charges off the inside line were superb against Worrall, with Cook imperious. Chessell continues to struggle and Starke looks pretty slow. Only the bitter cold and the ht15 result from Armadale tainted proceedings. Cant see us getting anything down at NCL but we'll see. -
Glasgow v Edinburgh Shield 28/4/19 @5pm

Some good races in this one with Pickering, Wells, Jensen and Cook. Despite pinning back the Monarchs to just 2 heat wins/heat advantages we should have scored more. Frustratingly they both came after the much maligned ht10 interval having bossed it up to then. Makes me think we could of got something on Friday night. Onward to Friday with NCL. -

More likely a sign that very few 0131 are interested never mind travelling over. For both teams though the season has yet to get going, the June fixtures will likely be more hotly debated. -

Having switched to night meetings lm not a fan of Sunday afternoons. The track is often much drier and different to ride. Should still be a home win but may not be comfortable. Lets get stuck in. -

That doesnt work either. When we did that previously there were several teams adrift at the bottom of the table before the first set of home and aways were finished leaving the rest of their season meaningless. -

Friday 31 May seems the earliest re-staging date with both teams having Friday fixtures between now and then. -

Don't agree with sacrificing Starke at 5. Going out with Bickley at reserve in three heats and having ht13 doesn't inspire. The only prediction I can make is Chessell won't get 4 rides and will find it a challenge to turn the bike never mind race. -
Unfortunately the Glasgow tradition is prioritising the top end of the team, then whoever will fit at the bottom ! Its caught us out season after season. The last occasion we did win the league we had interchangeable reserves for most of the season but no point letting the evidence get in the way of a strong top end. Would be good if we could sign a potential developer on the premise that we would keep them for 2 seasons. The first to find their feet and the second to reap the benefits of the first rather than having to learn a new home track and not having to worry about getting the sack. Ideally Jack Thomas would have stayed this season but the travelling was significant for him. A couple of the Belle Vue NL riders caught the eye at the Cook Testimonial and would be ideal for next season but as for this one who could possibly come in on a 2 point average and score the odd point, I'm not sure. I reckon Danny Phillips might get a couple of points the next time we meet Newcastle.

Having two 2 pointers was the trade off to get Cook in the team, unfortunately. Problem is i dont see anyone on that average who is available or any better. LC needs a year in the NL to build his confidence then work out if he wants to step up to the CL.
