King's Lynn vs Peterborough. Thursday July 25th
Bunce replied to Bald Bloke's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
When Chris Holder kicked off about the track, he was shown the door! Not the same situation obviously, but Buster doesn't take kindly to his track being criticised. -
Wasn't there a live feed on the Internet for the last round? Seem to remember I watched it in Polish, but at least I got the whole meeting! Eurosport started one televised meeting at Heat 19 if I remember correctly? I would prefer to watch it on my large screen TV, but if there is a live feed at least we get to see it all.

In my case I have been to Kings Lynn this year, and living near Norwich, go to Mildenhall sometimes as well. The reason I'm on the Forum is I follow ALL speedway, not just Kings Lynn. I have followed the sport for 56 years, my first meeting being at the Firs in 1963. First went to Lynn in 1967 and went twice a week when the "Starlets" were running as well. Followed the Stars all over the UK and once went to Poole and back in the same day, returning in dense fog! Just because I don't go every week does that mean you think I shouldn't be on a speedway forum? I find it interesting to hear everybody's opinion and many posts on this forum point out the cost, and general lack of entertainment at many tracks in the UK, not just Kings Lynn. For this very reason people who would never miss a meeting (I include myself here) have drifted away from the sport and tend to watch it from the back benches, hoping something will change to bring us back in the the fold again. As you rightly say, "If we don't go to meetings, there'll be no meetings" but I wonder whose fault that is? I was delighted to read there was a good crowd at Saddlebow Road last night, who knows, maybe I'll be encouraged to go again? -

Same here. Now I'm retired we have to watch costs, and living south of Norwich the total cost for myself and my wife, with fuel, admission and a couple of programmes is £60 per meeting. I can't say the racing was very entertaining on our last few visits, so we stopped going, as we felt it was poor value for that amount of money for us. I still class myself as a fan, and follow everything that goes on, but I'm finding it increasingly difficult to motivate myself to do that 100 mile round trip. I don't know if its just us, or if other fans feel the same way? -
I emailed Eurosport as well, after their last pathetic effort where coverage started at Heat 19 !!! I asked if they were now going to cover football from the 80th minute only? Naturally I didn't even get a reply. Thanks very much for the Polish link, seems to work fine, its showing Formula E car racing at the moment. Looks like I'll be eating my evening meal in front of the PC screen now!

Thanks Rob, it was just a forlorn hope for those of us that don't live up North. -

If anybody manages to find a link to a web site streaming this, I would love to have the link even if it is in Polish ! -
Get well soon Shane. Always one of my favourite riders, and a legend at Kings Lynn. Brilliant work by his daughter, who seems to have saved his life, well done young lady. Hopefully Shane will make a full recovery, so best wishes from all Kings Lynn fans.

So the Poles have more clout than the FIM? That's a worry. It puzzles me then why this new qualifying system was brought in when it must have been obvious that some riders would not be able to take part, and therefore be at a disadvantage. I believe in the past practice was optional, but this new system really hasn't been thought out and once again makes our sport look silly.

Well that was probably the most entertaining race of the night Philip, but when the Worlds best riders on the best bikes struggle to make any sort of pass for race after race, then I rate that as a very poor spectacle. Couple that with the farce that took place on the Friday when only 10 of the 16 riders took part and a referee who needs a new pair of glasses, then what you have left certainly didn't entertain me. I think most on this forum would agree that this GP was one to forget.
-
What! There were some good races, but most of it was dire.
-
Dreadful track, mainly follow the leader racing, and a referee who needs to go to specsavers! My one eyed cat could spot those jump starts. Oh well, on to the next one.
-
Why.........? Please tell us.

Just replying to my own post. Guess what, I was planning to go to the Swindon v Kings Lynn match last week whilst staying in the Cotswolds.....and it was rained off! Words fail me. Thats my fourth attempt over the years, and every time it rains.
-
Yes, I missed the fact that they have put it on a different channel (I'm easily confused!) Thanks Heathcote, I've found it now.
-
Thanks again. So no "Royal Box" to sit in like Saddlebow Rd? I'll take a couple of seats!
-
Thanks Sir Sidney, I'll take your advice. My past experiences of Swindon in the 1970's involved lots of rain! Two meetings I went to were rained off, and the third abandoned half way through with a waterlogged track. Hopefully I'll be luckier if I try again.
-
Thanks for that info Severnsider, it sounds as if getting there early is the best plan.
-
I'm on holiday in Burford when Swindon take on the Kings Lynn Stars, and having not been to Swindon Speedway since the 1970's I fancied a night out to support my "Stars" Could anybody advise me on the parking situation at the stadium please? The web site says limited parking at the stadium for £1-50 but if that's full when I arrive, where is the best place to park, thats a) not too far to walk and b) safe enough that my car still has all its wheels when I return! Any advice would be very welcome.

Me too. I'll be testing them this Sunday, lets hope they are up to their usual Michelin Star standard!

And don't forget oxygen, you are well above sea level up there, and the wind comes all the way from the Arctic. -

Yes, I was standing right by the fence when he hit it. Made me jump out of my skin! Didn't he suffer a broken hip from the crash and it ended his season? -
