Don't think it will make much of a difference for Poole, they're favourites to win everything whether that's with Foord, Perry or a 2.00 guest. Good news for Foord though.

5.7.2024 - Scunthorpe vs Glasgow
szkocjasid replied to ScunnyDan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I've never understood the "well past his best" argument against signing Starke. Of course he's well past his best, otherwise he'd be on a 7 point average & wouldn't have fitted in the team. Now if you said, couldn't understand it, because no-one saw him improving his average, that would be a fair point. I could argue Chris Harris, Sam Masters & Ben Barker are "well past their best" don't get many complaints about their signings lol! -

It would be very harsh on Smith to wait until he's out 2+ points so his average, then drop him! Dropping Starke for a 5 points rider, putting Pearson at reserve, may be the only change they need to make. -
Edinburgh now firmly in a wooden spoon battle with Berwick now imo
-
After today's performance, I still don't see Redcar making the top 4, but they've probably ensured they don't have to worry about the wooden spoon any more. Plus the great performance from their top 2, will give them hope for the KOC.

Then they should have said because of this weeks weather, not the forecast - which looked decent.

Workington (47) v Plymouth (43)
szkocjasid replied to jbell1995's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
11 hours after the postponement & the match is still advertised on the British Speedway website. If it was called off early to save on travelling / hotel bills etc perhaps they should get on to the BSPL to ensure the website is up to date. Similar thing happened when King's Lynn called off a meeting, left on the website for a long time after. For a "professional" sport, it's not good enough. -

Glasgow could easily make the top 4, 2 points behind Workington with a home match in hand, 2 points behind Redcar with 2 home matches in hand. Even have 2 home matches in hand over Oxford (5 points behind). -

With the points limit changing each month, I've lost count of what it currently is. Surprised Glasgow are so far below it. -

I think Scunny are very safe on the top 4, if Glasgow make it, won't be at their expense. Still expecting a big home win. -

The only changes Oxford make are to weaken the team. Can't see Poole doing anything except finding a 2.00 rider, rest are all doing their job. For Glasgow, not easy for to strengthen up with a low points limit, makes it more important to pick the correct team from the start. -

How would it be "Workington select" they were only missing one rider right? -

Forecast for today & tomorrow, looked fine. Of course if the track had already taken a lot of water & can't be raced on, that's fine, but mentioning the forecast as a reason for a postponement when it looks ok, leaves people to be suspicious & doubt the reasons given. Would have been better off to say, postponed due to a waterlogged track. If it's not waterlogged, then shouldn't have been called off. -

I don't think their reserves are far off the top 3. But if it's 1st vs 4th, can't see them stopping Ipswich. -

Really don't understand Wright not getting an extra ride. -

Leicester in with a great chance of the play-offs now. -

Second highest scorer for Sheffield! -
With more dropped home points, struggle to see Oxford making the play-offs now. Lack of bonus points really costing them. Their own fault for making the team weaker than. On paper Leicester & Lynn should be good enough at home to finish above Oxford.

Have to question Oxford's team manager (again). Putting Riss in heat 15, means he's one of the top two Oxford riders. So as he's at reserve, why not give him an extra ride before heat 15? -
Say this comment in the Speedway Star "Tom Brennan has called for his Birmingham bosses to pick a riding order and stick with it" now I've not read the rest of the article yet, but my first reaction is why? If Brummies lose every week, why would you keep the same riding order, why not try something new. Also most of their riders race in multiple countries, with different formats, or race in 2 leagues in GB with different teammates, so how would keeping the same riding order benefit them? I guess an argument could be made that Worrall should always ride at 2, because he can't score from anywhere else & Brennan is the obvious number 5 anyway.

Glasgow v Plymouth - 28/06
szkocjasid replied to jbell1995's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
No idea, just making a point that NL may not work on alternative race nights. I'd agree 2H & 2A would be a good idea if they 1) got rid of the play-offs, 2) teams worked together to get through the fixtures, 3) riders put British speedway first over foreign fixtures. But I don't see any of those 3 happening. -

On paper should be a massive Leicester win, but they've not impressed this season, so I'll go for 48-42 home win. -

This is a new experience for Speedway fans, will happen often this season, not the booing part lol, but cheering a rider one week not the next. Will only happen for Oxford though. Although some speedway fans will have been used to riders guesting for rivals & which could knock their own clubs out of competitions. Perhaps the Oxford situation is the lesser of two evils, Harris scoring well for Glasgow helps them make the play-offs over the Cheetahs, but doesn't hurt the Spires.
