Sheffield v Peterborough Monday 3rd July
szkocjasid replied to InTheDeepStuff's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I'm not gonna compare it to other sports because I feel Speedway is in a greater need to keep it's customers happy. As it currently stands the promoter's keep the full admission, but don't pay out the full points money - so technically they are better off financially by calling a match off after 10 heats, while the fans get less value for money. Surely it should be the other way round? While you point out that clubs still have to pay rent etc, if the money refunded is £1 a heat, that's the equivalent of fans paying £15 a match to cover riders payments - the other £7 is still there to pay bills etc. I'm sure Glasgow vs Berwick was the worst example, did it go 6 heats, so fans got £4 off? I certainly wouldn't be happy paying like £14 for 6 heats! -

Iversen is still scoring better than Basso it Cook, so I don't think that's the reason? -

Personally I think fans should get a refund if any match doesn't go to heat 15. Say £1 a heat, so anyone at Monday's match gets £5 off another Sheffield meeting this season? The promotion must be saving money not having to pay points for 5 races, so why not pass that saving onto the fans who paid for a full meeting? -

Maybe leaving at 2 to counter Sedgmen who is very strong at home? Personally I may have put Worrall at 5! -
Oxford vs Berwick - Champ - 5th July
szkocjasid replied to Bojangles's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
If Oxford can win at Berwick without Kerr, then they should get a very comfortable win at home. I'll predict an Oxford win by 1 or more points (all they need for the bonus lol) -
If true puts Bowtell at reserve!

Looking at those numbers, the Champ should easily be able to fit in 2 home & 2 away. However looking at that season not a single Championship club also ran an NL team (10 stand alone clubs & Belle Vue). -
He's not needed to fit under the averages, I made a mistake
-
Starke doesn't fit, maybe Jack Smith for Joe T to fit under the limit? Edit: I'm getting confused, Starke fits to replace Dan T, wouldn't for for Joe T!
-
Personally I think that's a massive shame, what did Dan get? Like 2 matches to prove himself?
-
I honestly think Jack Smith is the best option for a (temporary) replacement. If not that, then Connor Coles would be the strongest Champ guest to use when he's available. Boughen is too young & I think the Champ would be too big a step for him once he reaches 16, probably better off to take a few guest bookings with a view to finding a Champ club in 2024?

No one's denying that, the question is, would all the rain offs get replayed before the play-offs start? -

Is it worth trying Matthew Wethers on a 28 day contract? -

But if the track was so dangerous, why did they race heat 10? If it was truly unsafe, could have called it off earlier! Going to 10 heats & then stopping doesn't seem like rider safety was the only thing going through promoters / riders / referees mind? -

I think I say this every day, but why does Hans need to retire? If the club wants to strengthen up they can do that without him retiring! -
Puts Terasanko at reserve!

Looking at the new rolling averages using Gilkes (5.11) instead of the r/r option (7.05, 6.05, 5.49, 5.18) would be weaker plus not showing much faith in the home riders! Of course there's always a risk of injuries, but do you pick a weaker (statistically) option just in case? Whereas Ben Cook (6.51) could be a strengthening option. -
Disaster for Mulford & real bad news for Redcar. As harsh as it may sound Belle Vue shouldn't be hindered, Bailey & Edwards could be possible replacements? Get well soon Jake

2 home & 2 away would work perfectly with no play-offs, no need to cancel cup fixtures to race league matches before the cut-off date, no need to race on your off night / twice a week. Would have till the end of October to fit in the fixtures. However I know they'd never get rid of the play-offs -
Why? If he still enjoys racing & can make a living, no reason to stop, unless he wants to. It's up to the club to drop him if they have a better option!

I'm sure Sam Masters has previously doubled up in the UK as well as riding in Poland & Denmark. Not sure if he still races in Denmark now, but he wouldn't give up Poland because the Championship had more fixtures. -

People who like me, who see nothing wrong with a draw / or wonder why when 2nd & 3rd is the same as 1st & 4th for 15 heats, is suddenly better in the 16th race? Same theory as not agreeing with a final in an individual after 20 races, or play-offs to decide the league title. Or wild cards getting picked instead of qualifiers. I guess I prefer a "true / fair" winner without any gimmicks etc
