In one of previous posts You wrote something about communist past of my Country ,which is totally irrelevant (and yes, You know nothing about it too) because there were clubs and fans in UK in those times too and there's no communism in Poland for two decades Anyone who says history is irrelevant I find knows little about the world we live in. Top post rmc. -
Coventry V Poole 1/6/15

I think (for what it's worth) that speedway needs to start thinking about value for money. If you were new to speedway and watched this would you go to a meeting? -
Tampere Gp
longlivefrankie replied to ProudtobeaBrummie's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I asked because my thinking was that the whole idea was big crowds so we put up with the temporary tracks, seeing the crowd here would it not be better perhaps to concentrate on the the racing with a decent track -

Can somebody explain to me why this meeting is being held here? Temporary track in front of a low crowd Is there any reason this couldn't be at a regular track in Finland or somewhere else for that matter -

This had been my argument all along are we ever likely to see a Nigel boocock in these days how many years was he at Coventry, and there were others. Most teams had a few core riders who seemed to be at one team more or less. The fans identified with them. Also I feel another issue is today's win at all cost mentally that's crept in. It's my own opinion that this is a playoff mentality. When we had a 17 team british league finished 6th was an achievement and for some clubs a major achievement

I'm with you I have been dozens now it's my nearest track, now & and then before when my team visited it seemed overhyped I prefer more technical tracks where throttle control is needed. But it's only an opinion everyone to their own choices.

The Decline Of British Speedway
longlivefrankie replied to customhouseregular's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Re the tracks one thing I do remember from those rose tinted days of the seventies were the variety of tracks in this country from biggish - belle vue, Halifax, Exeter etc to smallish Wimbledon etc and plenty of variety in between. But you're right I think one of the main reasons is the bikes are too advanced for those remaining and need simplyfiing and imo standardising at league level leaving the tech stuff for GP level -

I believe speedway was a better prospect in the seventies, u only got to see the top riders a handful of times if u were lucky. We used to make the effort to go to Swindon from South wales to catch the likes of belle vue to see pc & mort. Exeter to see mauger & autrey When they visited blunsdon. The lack of tv coverage helped I think, there was more variety of value in meetings - major open meetings like BLRC, Internationale etc., world champs qualifiers, pairs (the world pairs at belle vue in 74 ?was a highlight I remember)fours. Match races I can remember travelling to see the monthly challenges Phil crump had. Perhaps there was just less to do lol -

longlivefrankie replied to PHILIPRISING's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Not very realistic speedway is a minority sport amongst minority sports, we are lucky cardiff is available let alone a old Trafford or etihad, I think a packed out belle cue as a second choice is ok -
