Buster Chapman - Is He Good For The Sport?
The White Knight replied to SCB's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
From reading comments on this Thread - the answer must be Yes. 100% -
Keeping the name in the Speedway arena is useful in that Promoters, who may be looking for new venues, may be tempted to give said Track another go. If they are not aware of somewhere, or it's History, then they may not even consider Sunderland, Wimbledon or anywhere else. It also demonstrates that there are folk in said area who already know about Speedway - even after a gap of over forty years. It is probably a forlorn hope I know, but still worth doing.
-
Nothing wrong with nostalgia. Apart from anything else it is good to to keep the names of some of the defunct Track names in the public eye. We can always hope that Speedway may return one day to our local Track. EDIT: Oops! I forgot to mention my Track is Sunderland.

THAT is their decision, though I do think your percentage of those leaving to be far too high. I never left before the end of the Second Half as I saw some superb Racing at times. I know that Second Half Final results were not always kocher but some of the displays put on by the Riders were fantastic.

Buster Chapman - Is He Good For The Sport?
The White Knight replied to SCB's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
This is a genuine question because I really don't know. What does GoSpeed International actually do for Speedway? I don't want to cause any bother, but I would like to know. -
So you prefer TWO Heats - to an extra FOUR in a Second Half. It's only two Heats off the main Meeting so what's the problem. Second Halves could be great, as well as beneficial to Speedway by giving youngsters the opportunity for more Track time and the experience of riding in front of the public. Happiness is 40-38.

No - he is not a 'fence sitter' as you put it. He needs to be able to carry the rest of the BSPA with him though. Given that he expressed a wish some time back to get rid of Double Points - it would seem that in, at least, some cases that the BSPA are not prepared to back him. He can only bring improvements to the Sport with the support of his fellow Promoters. Will he get that? I have to say that I have my doubts. I certainly hope that he does get that support. We can only wait and see. -
I would like to add Greg Hancock to the name of Freddie Lindgren. You do not hear of him falling much either. My views on current Bikes are well known - they are too bloody dangerous.

I can remember Jack Millen riding with a broken Collar Bone, and at another time with his leg in plaster, his boot cut open to accommodate the plaster. It wouldn't be allowed nowadays I suspect with Health and Safety the way it is - and actually that is probably a good thing.

I think it is good that the Club has shown some loyalty to Busch. Loyalty is a rare commodity these days. Actually, once again, I am impressed with the Promotion at Redcar.

Yep - that's the one. Thank you very much for that.

i) No Tactical Rides (I would say that wouldn't I). ii) League Champions would be League Champions ie. The Team that finishes top of the League over a Season. iii) For those who like the Play Offs - a seperate Competition. iv) A return to Two Valve Engines - less expensive to buy and to run. v) Thirteen Heat Meetings with a Second Half - to encourage youngsters and give them Track time and Competition.

I know one Rider who was/is happy to ride in the wet and that is Hans Andersen. He went out and showed a Team of Riders (one who was an England International), on SKY Television, who were refusing to ride the Track a few years ago how it could/should be done. Sadly I can't remember where it was though.

He was when he came to Sunderland back in the day. Shared a Taxi with him at a Crewe Reunion once and we got on really well. Great bloke.

Yes - he has. He was a cracking Rider in his day. https://www.google.com/search?q=bert+harkins&client=firefox-b&tbm=isch&imgil=WyMv2ymWBpxa8M%253A%253BBHoAA13KbPg0SM%253Bhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fedinburghspeedway.blogspot.com%25252F2013%25252F03%25252Fbert-harkins.html&source=iu&pf=m&fir=WyMv2ymWBpxa8M%253A%252CBHoAA13KbPg0SM%252C_&usg=__hKHqsrRzn8t1mIPP7Fo6xvJ2bR0%3D&biw=1440&bih=767&ved=0ahUKEwiI0IGR3I7VAhVqKsAKHR2hAfEQyjcIRw&ei=DNdrWYiaFurUgAadwoaIDw#imgrc=WyMv2ymWBpxa8M: -

My views on this subject are well known. Speedway has never been the same since the advent of the 4-Valve Engine. It has changed things tremendously - and most certainly NOT for the better. -

You beat me to it. Well said Sir!! -
Thank you for your efforts on our behalf Andy. It was indeed Tim who designed the Website for myself and scarletrider. I think he did a great job. Sadly I don't think we will ever find out the truth of what has happened here. We don't know the motives of those who have resurrected the Sunderland Site. We can only assume, from the Betting references on the Site, that it may have something to do with that. There were no references to Betting when we were running the Site in conjunction with Tim. Thank you very much again for your help with this. Best wishes. Ian.
