Very interesting that gustix. :approve: It's really great to read about some of the old brigade in our Sport. Cheers!

There were some cracking Riders in the National League in those days. Graeme Smith, Lou Sansom, Tom Owen, Trevor Geer, Ken McKinlay, Arthur Browning, George Major, Bruce Forrester, Doug Templeton, Geoff Maloney = all were good to watch along with the others I've mentioned on this Thread. Many happy memories here.

Yoou were right on what I mean't iris but there is a distinct dearth of film from those days. I still think I would rather have watched Speedway in the Forties and Fifties as compared to now. I don't know, of course, but reading about it and watching some clips on youtube I just get the feeling.
-
 Well don't read it then, and leave it to those who do. It's quite simple really.
-
Both great Races - but - wouldn't it be brilliant if we could have had the same sort of Film from the days of the Legtrailers? Sadly we can't really compare....

Shows your knowledge of the History of our Sport. I don't want a row with you - but obviously if you read the following Posts my question was valid. It's a great Thread evidenced by the number of people discussing on it. Well worthwhile following it. Thanks to gustix for starting it.

This truly is a great photograph. Is it me - or did Speedway seem a bit more spectacular in those days? Genuine qustion for debate - not taking the mick.
-
True - it is a fantastic idea. Would there be enough money in Speedway these days to finance something like that? I don't know............
-
I love the analogies - brilliant.
-
Watertight Contracts probably.
-
HaHa!! You had me going there for just a second.
-
How many, and which of them rode over here please gustix?
-
Great stuff gustix - love the pictures. They look great.

I would have thought the most sensible decision would be at the Weekend if you want to maximise your Support. People have work commitments, school runs and many other things to do on a weekday. Anyway - I sincerely hope you get a huge turnout whenever you have it.
-
But they still do have the old Stadium.
-
Hear, hear!!! :approve: Well said scarletrider.
-
You surprise me hagonshocker - could you please explain your remark. I just don't understand why the two Teams can't run together. Unless it is geographical and Oxford is too close to Swindon for the area to support two Tracks. They seemed to run together years ago.
-
How very true. We always lost there. From memory I don't think Jack ever let us down there. :approve:
-
Have you been to Brough Park or Redcar - now they really can be cold. In fact they can be bloody cold. I have fffffffffrozen my bits off at both venues at times.
-
Ron Wilson at Teeside always reckoned that Jack Millen put 500 on the Gate whenever he visited Teeside with Sunderland. I know he rode for Crewe - but he had his best years at Sunderland.
-
Clever that. It made me laugh anyway.
-
I don't want to rain on your parade - but Max Fricke is Australian. He might just be insulted if you called him British. They can be touchy about things like that. :D

Who Were The Better Team Belle Vue Or Cradley Heath.?
The White Knight replied to Sidney the robin's topic in Years Gone By
I think that is very harsh salty. gustix Posts some very interesting Threads if you are interested in the History of Speedway. I love the tales from years ago before I took an interest in the Sport. gustix has a great knowledge of those days - and - as I say, I very much enjoy reading his comments.
