British Speedway - Dead Or Alive? The White Knight replied to SarahLapworth's topic in Speedway News and Discussions The counter argument to that being that all the changes instigated since those days have hardly brought a rosy future to Speedway - have they? One might ask oneself might things have been better had they left things well alone? Change for changes sake rarely works, and it is my belief has actually made Speedway a less viable proposition than it used to be.

Belle Vue National StadiumThe White Knight replied to PHILIPRISING's topic in Speedway News and Discussions Fair point well made. The only thing I can see wrong with that is the Council would be left with a white elephant of a Stadium that would be largely unused. Surely that would be no good for either side.

Would that make it easier to cook the books?

British Speedway - Dead Or Alive? The White Knight replied to SarahLapworth's topic in Speedway News and Discussions I admit that you could be right about that. I just don't think you are.

British Speedway - Dead Or Alive? The White Knight replied to SarahLapworth's topic in Speedway News and Discussions There may be a feeling................. .................................... but it doesn't feel that way to me, and, I suspect a lot of others.

Belle Vue National StadiumThe White Knight replied to PHILIPRISING's topic in Speedway News and Discussions And have the Magazine facing Legal Action against them? Great idea that. It might bankrupt Speedway Star Speedway's only Official Journal - not very clever that Humphrey - unless you would care to pay for any Legal Bills or Fines incurred?

Belle Vue National StadiumThe White Knight replied to PHILIPRISING's topic in Speedway News and Discussions As I said earlier - I hope that you will give notice which Issue this Article will be in. I promise to buy it.. Thanks in advance.

British Speedway - Dead Or Alive? The White Knight replied to SarahLapworth's topic in Speedway News and Discussions ................ and if the price is the Sport's Credibility? As Vincent Blackshadow has pointed out - how many people stopped going due to the irrelevance of Meetings later in the Season, or got tired of the whole idea of the various League Championship Meetings being totally irrelevant, for that is what they are - totally irrelevant. Far better Bill them as a Cup Competition. That would, at least, be more honest. That very statement re-enforces my view that Double Points and Tactical Substitutes are just contrivances. Do away with them and you will get more Home wins, and, Home Promoters, Riders and Supporters go home happy. More importantly, the Supporters will come back the following week to follow a winning Team. There will still be Away wins - but not as many. This would be much fairer for both Home and Away Supporters. It might also encourage wavering Supporters to stay with the Sport.

............ and was much the better because of that. The Promoters and Riders have let all that go sadly. No the wonder only the diehards are left - I would still be going were it not for the Double Points Rule. To sum up - some of the Races are still very good, but overall, those who run Speedway, to my mind, have made many very bad ecisions over the years. Speedway nowadays is not the same as the Sport I loved (and to a point, still do) all those years ago. Lots more people went in those days - so they must have been doing something right. Then they change everything in order to progress the Sport - and we can all see the results of that - can't we?
-
I'm very pleased about that. Can you imagine going to the Speedway - no noise, no smell of Castrol 'R' (you can hardly get a whiff of that these days). If they go to Electric Bikes - whatever it is - it won't be Speedway.

Does British Speedway Have Future? The White Knight replied to Pieman72's topic in Speedway News and Discussions Dead right it has.

British Speedway - Dead Or Alive? The White Knight replied to SarahLapworth's topic in Speedway News and Discussions I just wish that there were no Tactical Substitutes or Tactical Rides. Why on earth can Speedway not just settle for the Result on the Track? That is what people go to watch after all. OK - some Teams will take a hammering once in a while but that's life - I should know - I follow Sunderland AFC. The fact is you would probably get more Home wins which would suit the Promoter, and the Home Riders would get more points therefore get more Pay. It would be much fairer on all Teams, as a Team that had been well beaten Away from Home would be able to gain their revenge in the return Fixture. An Away win would then be even more meritorious than it is now. You could even have, perish the thought, an extra League Point for the Team scoring the most Points over the two Meetings. This would encourage maximum effort from both Team's Riders.

I couldn't agree more. Glyn was the best Trackman Redcar ever had in my humble opinion. :approve:

Does British Speedway Have Future? The White Knight replied to Pieman72's topic in Speedway News and Discussions It isn't wrong - but you have to cut your costs in some way. The sad fact is that Speedway in Britain today is in a very parlous financial state. There is not a lot of money in the Sport. Top line Riders come at a cost. It is my contention that the cost is too much to bear for some Clubs and will eventually, if persevered with, bankrupt the Sport. I believe that we can probably run British Speedway fine without the top Stars. They take far too much money as it is, from an almost impoverished Sport.

British Speedway - Dead Or Alive? The White Knight replied to SarahLapworth's topic in Speedway News and Discussions Decent crowds in those days. No Double Points, no Play Offs etc. Just plain old fashioned Speedway Races with a Second Half to add to your enjoyment. The League Champions were just that - League Champions. Those were the days.

Does British Speedway Have Future? The White Knight replied to Pieman72's topic in Speedway News and Discussions Yes - unfortunately the chance to really put Speedway on the map was when SKY first came on board. I often wondered what happened to all of that money - it can't all have gone on top Number Ones.

Does British Speedway Have Future? The White Knight replied to Pieman72's topic in Speedway News and Discussions Actually - I think they do The problem is I don't think they know what to do about it.

British Speedway - Dead Or Alive? The White Knight replied to SarahLapworth's topic in Speedway News and Discussions Speedway isn't a Pub. However I agree with the main thrust of your argument. Quite how you would change Speedway though - I am not too sure. Certainly a number of Rules need changing. Perhaps finding a way to fill in the gaps between Races might be a start. I wish I knew the answer - but sadly I don't.

Very good question. It would be very interesting to know.............
