They do - or did - when I went to Newcastle. -
Sums Up State Of Speedway Today
The White Knight replied to TonyMac's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
One of my biggest regrets, when I kick off this mortal coil, is the number of Books I would love to have read but couldn't because of lack of time. -
I have said that for years and is another reason it is not value for money. Thank you for that reply Philip. I can actually see where you are coming from there but I still feel the Magazine is overpriced at the moment.

I have read, and own those Books I have highlighted and I also own Michael Lee's Book but haven't read it yet. Len Silver, Booey, Peter Craven and British Speedway Memories are all great reads too. I can recommend all of them. Most are available from Retro Speedway. Book, Old Fashioned. Crumbs!! - give me a proper Book any day. I have a Kindle and have a number of Books on that - I can never seem to be bothered to read them though. I never have that problem with 'proper' Books. Reading is one of my favourite pastimes - I spend a lot of time with my Books. -
Depends on how you view value for money. I buy 'BackTrack' and 'Classic Speedway' Magazines on Subscription and think they are excellent value for money. I don't believe that Speedway Star fits in to that category these days. I used to have it delivered from the Newsagents years ago and in those days, it was indeed value for money. Not now unfortunately.

I said "along the lines of MCN". There would not be enough material to have a Paper as thick as that for Speedway. The Speedway Star is too glossy and just too expensive for a Sport that is shrinking in support Season on Season. Just an opinion - but mine is as valid as anyone else's.
-
Not at that Price. Print it along the lines of 'Motorcycle News' and reduce the Price accordingly and I would agree with you. I can concur with all of the highlighted section of your Post. I used to read it from cover to cover too. When I buy it now - I am very selective in what I read and then it is straight in to the bin.

Premiership And Championship

I like it!!! Not sure the Promoters will though............................. -
I agree with that actually. That does not though, make it immune from criticism.
-
Because it is mainly 'Old Codgers' who go to Speedway these days.

Had it been Phil - I might have bought it. -
I find the Magazine quite pricey for what you get. Not a good buy for me I'm afraid. I don't agree. Speedway Star is a current Magazine - the Retro Speedway scene is already more than adequately filled by 'BackTrack'and 'Classic Speedway' Magazines. I would not expect 'BackTrack' or 'Classic Speedway' to get involved in current Speedway - it would probably put me off buying it. Likewise I believe Speedway Star should stick to it's job of reporting on current Speedway events and happenings. I certainly would not want them to go in to competition with each other.

I like that - but I haven't had a Bath for years. I'm a Shower man myself - for some reason I find it even harder reading my BackTrack in the Shower. :D -
.............. and the rest.

I am as old as you and I can remember both Bob Coles and Michael Coles. If Connor is anything like them he could become a real good 'un.

I'm afraid I won't be buying these two Books as I have saved every copy of 'BackTrack since Issue One. Had I not done so - I would have bought them like a shot. Simple answer to your question is - Yes. I have a fair number of your Books now and they are a very good read. I am not that interested in today's lot (as you put it). 'BackTrack' and 'Classic Speedway' does it for me. I always look forward to my copies with relish. -
I must admit I never ever saw that. I did see the Holmqvist with a 'k' a couple of times though. Thank you BL65 for your explanation - much appreciated. I thought that the 'k' was a typo to be honest.

Come on lads - it's not worth fighting over. Season of goodwill and all of that.
-
Personally I believe that you were right not to.
-
I thought you might comment RD. Personally I would have preferred Kus - as for being crackers - you may well be proved right - age you know....
-
No problem with Swedes for me - I would have preferred his brother......... ................ or Matty Kus of course. Apart from that it seems like a fairly decent Team. The Resrves may or may not be a problem - but let's hope that it will be the latter.

I must have an odd sense of humour. It was funny to me. :)

Good one Dandelion. It made me laugh anyway.
-
No - I deliberately missed him off as you had already done a piece on him in an earlier Post.

Very interesting. Have you anything else on former Sunderland 'Saints' Riders? I know their Speedway Records but haven't any in depth knowledge like this. Jim Airey, Grdon Guasco, Graham Coombes, Ray Day, Ken Sharples, Maury McDermott, Colin McKee and Paul Sharples. Great Post.
