Double up on previous post. Still a good nights racing that puts some other riders to shame

Some.good racing here and these lads are doing themselves proud.and if only we saw the similar commitment and support in the UK. This is why we are second rate and the Poles are streets ahead. Big thanks to tonight’s riders.

Yep and you reap what you sow. Don’t start bemoaning that punters have walked when you failed to listen to feedback. All on here and probably some lapsed supporters would not want the sport to disappear altogether but those in charge are testing the loyalty and patience of supporters across the spectrum. They do not appeal to the younger generation and are ostracising the hard core fan base who have been so loyal over the years by failing to be proactive to arrest the situation and put the sport on a firmer footing. None so blind as those who do not want to see sums up the BSPL and club owners/promoters who believe everything in the garden is rosey. Dream on the bunch of custodians who supposedly have the best interest of sport at heart, they don’t and they are failing every supporter and worse still every aspiring rider who wants to succeed but is not given the breaks they need or deserve.

Those in charge ought to take a look at the comments on here and get some understanding of why they have failed the punter.

Is it a reality that the sport in this country can no longer afford to run at the top level because the lack of major broadcaster airing the sport to a wider audience, the falling level of income from punters, owners and sponsors meaning financially it is simply not enough to cover the outgoings. A new business model needs to be adopted that allows clubs, after financial scrutiny, to run at a level which is affordable. I am sure most people would rather see tracks remaining open and providing a level of team racing given that the alternative could be that the venue closes with little chance that the relevant club will ever make a comeback. At this stage we have journeymen using the top league to top up incomes whilst plying a far more lucrative trade in the likes of Poland. Good luck to those riders who can afford to do that as no doubt the investment required in terms of machinery etc is far higher giving the demands imposed by the Polish clubs. The UK scene does not currently have the right finances in place to compete or even offer like for like terms and the sport needs a measured adjustment in order that it has a future and one day can offer/attract the calibre of riders that compete solely in mainland Europe.

I don’t dispute that and it is a fine balance between pushing on with the next generation or supporting the decline with no one interested in the talent that may be another Bewley. Like everything today supporters have no patience and want instant heat leader status riders and seemingly refuse to back today’s newbies. It didn’t happen in years gone by because you had second halves to meetings and the 6 and 7 team riders got to compete in real races not contrived protectionist heats and supporters appreciated this pipeline of talent. The sport is in the situation it finds itself in because of fickle supporters who dismiss these youngsters as wobblers which is an insult added to which you have promoters who cannot or will not back the trainees and then you have failing of a sport governing body who have consistently not bothered to adapt to the changing situation that the sport finds itself in with no idea of how to create a pipeline of future talent. Its rules inhibit the progression of young riders and why they ostracise Nora teams and riders is the self fulfilling prophecy. The governing body as it stands is not fit for purpose. So much needs to change across the spectrum from club owners to governing body to supporters but alas in today’s climate nothing will happen apart from the continual decline in the UK of this once great sport

From the little I can find, seems like it will be a very good afternoons racing. Do you know if anyone is recording for download on YouTube? I really do wish more is done to promote this type of meet and the future of the sport. Sadly some supporters are indifferent but where is the next Dan Bewley going to come from if you do not get behind the youngsters. It’s a pity that the nearest club Ipswich, do so little at this level. Enjoy the afternoon.

He claims not to know what a red card is, how the hell will he know what speedway is or does he think it is a drug you can get high on very quickly😄 We will find out when he hit the hotline to Phil. Until then let’s just see how this national league match turns out.

A great afternoon of speedway over the four matches. Good entertainment and thanks to all involved including those providing the links so that we get to see the meetings live. If only a UK broadcaster picked up on this and even showed highlights. I guess we can dream on.

The links seem to be intermittent anyone got a better idea/option. Shame because this was a decent meeting.

Didn’t bother me either and anyway poodles are probably a lot more loyal and friendly than the pootling throttle jockeys. I wonder if they know they pootling around the track.

Agree and he is going through a difficult patch but on his day he can give most a run for their money. Maybe a change of riding order but you cannot lose the faith in an accomplished competitor going through a purple patch. He will come good. Stick with him, he has talent.

Yep and so are most participants who ply their trade in UK speedway so nothing new. That is why the sport is a pastime that few punters care or are interested in and until it has a total revamp with people who have vision, it will continue to be a sh.t show. No regular fixtures, shared riders, no legitimate reason to win a meeting and journeymen who use UK speedway and in part the fans entrance fee to a meeting to top up the pension pot. They take few or no risks and pootle round a track and protect the revenue stream from riding in Poland but at all costs ensure no risks are taken to jeopardise the income and do the bare minimum and the punters in the UK accept the morsels on offer. That sums up most of the riders contribution to league racing in the UK and the racing on offer. Take it or leave it. The sport will never get back to its halcyon days.

It use to happen way back but times have changed and to even think you could replicate in the uk the Polish phenomenon of crowds and excitement is today a pipe dream. You have no publicity at national level (mainstream broadcasters could not give a fig about speedway, it ranks alongside tiddlywinks) and those who are in charge of the sport fail to dial in to the younger generation. Add to this the fact that you no longer have a cost effective entry to the sport which puts many off and hence the younger generation are no engaged. Those in charge have failed to sell the spectacle that it can be and now grass root change is needed but you have dinosaurs running the shop and until they are ousted you will have the status quo.

Yep and just watching it on a stream you get drawn in. I can remember back in the 70s at Rayleigh on a Saturday night, the enthusiasm and the waiting for the results from the other Saturday night tracks. Sadly the UK scene is a pale shadow of what use to be but this meeting tonight gives you hope as to what could be with a number of factors coming into play. Until then we rely on Poland.

That was good and had everything. What a finish and thanks to all the riders. My only concern is Doyle, just how many scrapes can he endure, apart from that nip and tuck and a great evenings racing with an enthusiastic crowd.

Coverage on Anglia local news on ITV was a top up to the other media coverage around the region and can only raise interest with the clip from the Polish league. Well done to all at Foxhall doing the utmost to get the sport in front of more potential punters and just imagine Polish supporters coming across to Ipswich for pre season challenge matches. Onwards and upwards.

History says you are probably right but because he is first and foremost a business person and will not take any nonsense from the fools that run the sport over, if pushed to the point where it directly affects his investment he might think outside the box and counter any threats with a possible withdrawal from the British League and apply for Witches race in the second tier of the Polish league on a Thursday night guaranteeing regular meetings once a fortnight and on Sundays they could set up a large screen at Foxhall to show Ekstraliga matches live. No problem with noise levels and extra income for the stadium. You never know but at least someone has come in to get things moving forward because we all know what a great spectacle speedway is and if marketed by those with a eye for selling, it could be the new beginning it needs in this country rather than continue to rely on the cozy speedway masons cartel who run the show now.
