  1. From the Sheffield Star:- Sheffield star Arthur Sissis admits he found his return to speedway tougher than expected as the club prepare to bring the curtain down on the 2015 campaign. Tigers will host their end of season party at Hillsborough’s 1867 suite on Friday (7.30) with a big turnout expected to wrap up an eventful year. Sissis, 20, will be there before going home to Australia. The former Moto3 racer enjoyed a promising start to his senior career in the shale sport before seeing his campaign cut short by a shoulder injury suffered after he had bagged a career-best 13+1 point haul against Berwick in August. However, he says the challenge of returning to the sport after five years away proved more difficult than expected. Sissis said: “I didn’t think it was going to be as hard as it was and the first few meetings were a bit of a wake-up call. I knew straight away I had a lot of work to do, and towards the end of the season I felt like I was moving in the right direction. “I was getting some decent scores before I got injured, but unfortunately that crash just came at a really bad time just as my form was starting to pick up and that was a big blow. “Hopefully I’ll be given the chance to come back next year and continue improving. I’ll be working hard and trying to get plenty of time on the bike during the off-season back in Australia. “I’ve enjoyed riding for Sheffield and I’d love to have the chance to come back, and after the experience I’ve gained and the stuff I’ve learnt this year I’d like to think I could do much better.” Admission to Friday’s event will be available on the door or by emailing the club through the website.
  2. I hope that Jack Lee is signed up again as Team Manager. IMO, he is the best one that Sheffield have had in my time.
  3. Take no notice RP. You put links up if you want.
  4. Jonas B Andersen has been known to be available to guest for you at a few hours notice, so could be a good choice.
  5. Clubs' fixture lists in the PL for September and October are a complete shambles, and have been getting worse over recent years. It's not right to expect riders to be available to ride without having any income for several weeks.
  6. Ty Proctor, whose best equipment is still in England, won round 9 of the Heffernan Series at Kurri, ahead of Mason Campton and Tyler King. Taylor Poole was 6th. The final round, worth double points, is this weekend, with Mason leading from Ty.
  7. See my earlier post - Sheffield unchanged unless a Facility is required for Jason Garrity. Sheffield did not want 3 or even 4 blank Thursdays in a row, not just 1. None of the 3 Peterborough riders who were 'unavailable' on the Thursday were booked to ride on that day, or the day after. Compare the known facts with the quoted reports in this week's SS from Damien Bates and Ged Rathbone, and see who you believe.
  8. If the Promoters want Play Offs for financial reasons, then they will stay, but they really need to look at the disastrous effect that Play Offs have had on clubs' fixture lists.
  9. IMO it's best to wait for the AGM before thinking of teams for next season. If they lower the points limit substantially in the PL, it would not really be viable for teams to sign up the likes of Simon Stead, Craig Cook, Danny King etc. Who knows what they will come up with, but I definitely do not want us to go EL.
  10. Jonas B Andersen is sometimes available to guest for you at very short notice. Looking like Jason Garrity will not be fit to ride for Sheffield.
  11. If they can do 16 laps in this meeting, why do some riders refuel after an unsatisfactory start, thereby delaying a meeting?
  12. I agree. I couldn't understand why Sheffield were the only team trying to get the QFs played asap.
  13. Jason Garrity is expected to make a decision on Friday, as to whether he will be fit to ride on Sunday. Not sure what is on Anders Thomsen's menu for Saturday yet.
  14. Sheffield unchanged for this match, unless a guest is required for Jason Garrity.
  15. Perhaps it's the rule book that needs looking at. Thomsen last week, North tonight. A Sick Note from a Doctor overrules any objection, and as things stand, the MC and the Referee cannot disregard it. Some thought needs to go in to how things can be changed, as no doubt, this won't be the last time. ps, I have no doubts about the integrity of Jim Lawrence. IMO he is one of the best, but is human like most of the rest of us, and therefore liable to make mistakes.
  16. Congratulations to Anders Thomsen for getting 2nd place in the World U21s. No mention in the Peterborough Telegraph as yet about him getting off his sick bed to ride in the final meeting, but maybe that will come in a later edition.
  17. Any known comments from Anders Thomsen about getting off his sick bed to ride in this meeting?
  18. I think that they were hoping to stage it at Leicester, but they can't do it now.
  19. It was something daft that I made up on the spur of the moment MANSE, to give another example of how to cheat if one was so inclined.
  20. I saw Ged and Trevor in the Pits just before 7.00. Sheffield have a policy, as advised by the H&S people, that once bikes are being warmed up, anyone who has no business in the Pits is asked to leave. So riders, mechanics, paramedics, pit staff, officials and team managers are ok. Others are just getting in the way.
  21. Anyone can go to the Doctor and say they have sickness and diarrhoea, and can they have a sick note for work. No checks will be made. Medicine may be prescribed, with a recommendation to come back if things don't get better. Job done.
