  1. I get that feeling as well WHB. Decisions seem to be taken just because he has the power to do it a particular way as if to prove a point. Being bloody minded I guess! Maybe we'll be the same when we are 83!
  2. John 'Tiger' Louis is my favourite rider of all time. I first saw him ride at Ipswich in 1970 and watched him regurlarly throughout the 70's as he lead the Witches to back to back championships in 1975 and 1976. There are three individual meetings that stand out for me though and I was fortunate enough to witness all of them. Firstly, the 1975 British Final at Coventry and a 15 point maximum in front of huge crowd and then of course the World Final at Wembley later that year and third on the rostrum having beaten Ivan Mauger in a run off. JL was the first British rider to make the rostrum in 13 years since the late Peter Craven won in 1962. The final individual performance of my three was the memorable BLRC victory at Belle Vue in 1979 and the title winning ride against Bruce Penhall was one John's finest victories without doubt. A truly great rider and fantastic servant to Speedway!
  3. My first meeting at Ipswich in August 1970 had a sedate heat one race time of 75.4 courtesy of Ron Bagley. I know the track has changed a bit in 45 years but not hugely and they could now do five laps in the time it took Ron to do four! I do wonder how much quicker it will be possible to go at some tracks!
  4. Danny King did the track walk but so did Robbo! Danny Ayres for Jason. If that doesn't tempt you well how about Jim Lawrence as referee then?
  5. You might like to try http://www.svemo.se/sv/Grenar/Speedway/Tavling/Tavlingskalender/ Hope you find something you can attend.
  6. This weekend gone at Rye house I thought I heard Craig Saul say Monday 7 September was the cut off which is the date Rye House stage their final home league match against Peterborough. This would be a little surprising given that some fixtures have already been arranged for after that date. As others have suggested though it's a case of guesswork and it would not be a great surprise if nobody really knew at this point in time!
  7. I agree and I could only assume the ref was watching Daniel Spiller fall and was unaware that Danyon was also a faller. Danyon was clearing the track very quickly as Rob Branford was heading towards him and I don't think he made the safety of the centre green with much to spare!
  8. Don't forget Gislaved which is the next nearest Swedish track to Malmo.
  9. But didn't he admit to doing just that in Warsaw when he was trying to deflect blame from himself?
  10. I have really enjoyed the trip to Horsens and the weather has been great which makes a nice change based on previous trips to Denmark. Still a long way to go but Tai is looking good for his second win. As for the unusual (although not unheard of) backstraight bunching decision - I am no fan of Jim Lawrence but I somehow doubt he made the decision without considerable input and guidance from others!
  11. Danyon Hume was indeed the no. 8. He was there early for an after the meeting practice when he was asked to step in and he thoroughly enjoyed his first experience of Foxhall.
  12. Yes indeed Shads - last time he was fuming!
  13. Kevin Smith is a regular at Poole Speedway!
  14. I have been waiting for this to be called off for weeks although it actually looked like Len wouldn't do that until he saw what the Raiders did to Mildenhall!
  15. Like you I am no fan of Auty but it seems to me that Tungate clearly wished to make his displeasure known although I doubt he had intended the consequences that ensued. Had he immediately turned around to check on Auty I think more people might have been willing to give him the benefit of doubt. However, it's far from the worst of things I have seen riders do to each other on and off track.
  16. I thought it was announced Adam was penalised for delaying the start - I do not recall hearing touch touching being mentioned but the P.A system where I stood was a bit temperamental so I may have missed it!
  17. Oh dear usual problems it seems. Whenever is something going to be done to give fans the opportunity to purchase tickets for Polish GP's without all this aggravation.
  18. Scunthorpe is a great track and has done so much for British Speedway in giving young riders opportunities especially in its early days. I really hope they can find a way through. As Eastbourne and Birmingham have found maybe the NL is more sustainable with the advantage of home grown riders (who actually turn up every meeting) as opposed to ailing leagues reliant on expensive journeymen!
  19. Thanks Ghostie, iris and r & r. I'll certainly check out some of those Polish trips Tim. I know what you mean about work getting in the way but I guess it's a means to an end. I look at my work as a form of Sponsorship to fund my Speedway!
  20. So far as costs are concerned the flights were £44 but I have done them for £20 before now. Car Hire was £49 and the fuel cost £14. Speedway admission was £8 and the programme £2. Naturally I spent money on food etc: but no more than if I had been travelling around the UK. It depends how one measures the time I guess. Entering Stansted airport to exiting it was just under 18 hours. I did not leave from home nor return to home straight away so I don't have a reliable door to door time!
  21. I visited Nässjö in Sweden on Saturday afternoon for a very enjoyable Division 1 fixture. I took an early flight from Stansted to Gothenburg Landvetter and then returned back to the UK in the evening. During the season I generally do about 5 overseas trips and where I can I will take in two or three meetings per trip. However, I would be interested in doing some more day trips and just wondered if anyone else has discovered an easy day trip where the current flight schedules fit in well. Many thanks
  22. No disrespect intended and he may well get better but from what I saw of Rafal Konopka last season he would have struggled at NL level. I have noticed an improvement this year but many British youngsters would have been delighted to have had the number of PL rides Rafal has had over the past two seasons. Something is very wrong here!
  23. I'm not sure who I would nominate as the worst. In recent times Dave Robinson, Tony Steele, Jim Lawrence and Barbara Horley have often left me far from impressed but there are a few other candidates as well.
  24. Looks like Ward is trying to get banned again judging by his twitter comments!
