GED OUT TO PAINT TOWN RED! Wednesday April 22, 2015 PETERBOROUGH Supremo Ged Rathbone hopes to start the Premier League season in style with a victory on his home turf. The Middlesbrough-based supremo will have his shortest journey of the season to see his Readypower Panthers side take on Redcar Bears at the Media Prima Arena tomorrow (Thursday, 7.30pm). And he will arrive with expectations of a bold showing from Panthers as they begin a busy spell of three meetings in four days. A length-of-the-country trek to Somerset follows on Friday in the Premier League Cup ahead of a first home league meeting against Rye House on Sunday. Rathbone said: “It is an important meeting at Redcar as we need to signal our intentions in the league right from the word ‘go’. “A poor start looks like it may well cost us the chance of qualifying for the latter stages of the League Cup and we can’t afford to have to play catch-up in the league. “It won’t be easy by any means, but it is the sort of meeting we need to be winning if are going to lay down a challenge for the title. “We have done well on the road so far this season and we again have to be professional and prepared. We are going there with the intention of getting a result. “It is also a massive meeting for me on a personal level being a Middlesbrough man. I go to watch Redcar every week and I definitely want to watch my team win there.” Panthers draft in two guests for their trip to the North-East. Former Redcar man Richard Lawson gets the nod at number one while ex-Peterborough ace Claus Vissing slots in for Robert Lambert, who is on duty in the Elite League with King’s Lynn. Adam Roynon is set to begin his comeback from injury tonight with a post-meeting practice at Redcar. Roynon, who has been sidelined breaking ribs and puncturing a lung in a crash on the opening day of the 2015 season, also hopes to get in laps at Somerset tomorrow (Friday) following the club’s League Cup Southern Group clash there. He also has a practice planned at Redcar on Saturday before having a further skid at the East of England Showground on Sunday following the visit of Rye House. TEAMS REDCAR: Lasse Bjerre, Jan Graversen, Rafal Konopka, Matej Kus, Ben Morley, Stuart Robson, Hugh Skidmore. READYPOWER PANTHERS: Lewis Blackbird, Ollie Greenwood, Simon Lambert, Richard Lawson (guest), Ulrich Ostergaard, Michael Palm Toft, Claus Vissing (guest).

DECISION TIME FOR PANTHERS PETERBOROUGH supremo Ged Rathbone admits the club face a major dilemma after seeing number one Olly Allen ruled out for the rest of the season. Allen's ankle injuries, sustained in a crash at the East of England Showground against Rye House at the end of March, are more serious than first feared. Rathbone described the loss of his figurehead as 'a crushing blow' and now faces a tough decision over the best way to replace him. Panthers have successfully used guests in recent meetings but may now need to make a permanent signing with the 2015 campaign still in its infancy. Rathbone said: "We were adamant that we wanted to build a team around a proven number one at Premier League level and Olly was that man. “He showed last season in his visits as an away rider that he could be close to invincible around the Showground. "It was a dream move for all parties as Olly was our top target and he could not have been more excited about returning to the club where he started his career. "Olly remains part of the Peterborough team and will be present at meetings whenever his injuries and work commitments allow, and it goes without saying that I would love to see him back on track in Panthers colours in the future. "Moving forward we now have to plan for the rest of the season and we have some big decisions to make. "We have been able to call on some very good guests since Olly was injured and we could consider continuing down that route. "We have also searched high and low across Europe for a potential number one signing and have so far drawn a blank. "We are in constant dialogue as a management team and at this stage we are still considering our options. "We are also very aware of what happened last season when new signings were brought in and it didn't work out as anticipated." Panthers don't return to action until next Thursday (April 23) when they travel to Redcar for a first Premier League meeting of the season. They complete their Premier League Cup Southern Group fixtures at Somerset the following night. Their next home action is against Rye House in the league on April 26 when the new 5pm start-time will be introduced. http://www.peterboroughpanthers.co/news.php?extend.2445.2

No more Sunday afternoon racing Michael Palm Toft in action during last Sunday afternoon's meeting. Panthers have shelved afternoon racing due to problems preparing the East of England Showground track. The club have staged three Sunday meetings so far this season with 1pm, 2pm and 3pm start-times. They have all been affected by a slicker-than-desired surface which club bosses feel have hampered the home advantage of their team. From now on Sunday meetings will begin at 5pm, starting when they entertain Rye House in the Premier League on April 26. Promoter Ged Rathbone said: “We haven’t been able to get the amount of water required into the track. “It means we haven’t had the home advantage we need or the exciting racing the supporters are used to. “Pushing the start-time back gives us more time to prepare the track in the way we want it.” www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk

Panthers number one out for the season Panthers' star Olly Allen moments after the crash that has ended his season. Photo: David Lowndes. Peterborough Panthers number one Olly Allen has revealed his 2015 season is already over. Allen suffered serious ankle damage in a crash at the East of England Showground in the second competitive home meeting of the season last month. He initially expected to be in plaster for six weeks, but further medical assessments have led to his recovery time being set at six months. Writing on his Twitter account this morning (April 25), Allen said: “I am absolutely gutted to say my season is over. The ankle injuries are worse than expected with badly torn tendons being the biggest issue. “It is going to be six months before I can do weight-bearing exercise. I wish Panthers all the best, they have been fantastic to deal with and have the makings of a great club.” http://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/sport/speedway/panthers-number-one-out-for-the-season-1-6690878 Someone teach Plummer to proof read!!

would like to see rye house get something from this - but after seeing the plucky display by the devils at the EOES last Sunday - I'm predicting a crushing home win with Kyle Newman maximum.... -

was surprised that the ref allowed Risager to restart his bike and complete the race for 1 point after falling in heat 9 on lap 4 turn 1... was waiting for the red lights didn't come on with Risager laying flat on his back with Lambert and Blackbird about to thunder across the finish line into turn 1 - where he was laying.. -
Dunno what planet you are living on? why would Rye House get rid of Kasper and let another PL team sign him when he returns from injury? Your head must be so far up your own bottom that you must be able to see what you had for supper last night!

why are people constantly knocking Lewis? I have been fortunate to have met him on several occasions. A likeable, down to earth , methodical and downright honest individual - who should in my opinion be pushing Tai as the Number 1 GB rider. Sure he's had his fair share of misfortune over the years and have been misguided by the likes of Horton/Rosco/Greer etc over the years.. but with a guiding arm around his shoulder and right sponsorship deal- he should be a nailed on number 1 for many years to come. Support the young man don't knock him...!
