  1. I'm at a loss as to why anyone would apparently criticise someone who is a good gater. Obviously the objective of speedway is to finish first. If you're a good gater then this dramatically increases the chances of you successfully accomplishing that which you are being paid to do. It's like the daft criticism of Kris Boyd "he's not a very god footballer..............he only scores goals" Doh!! Of course, as a paying supporter, I'd rather see the likes of Sir Les miss the gate the pass the three other guys in front of him, lap after lap. This is a professional serious extremely dangerous sport it's not WWE. Being in front, as quickly as possible, makes it safer for life and limb also. Richard has shown that he is a good team player too, shepherding less lights.
  2. I agree with this. During a family holiday in Kent, last week, I took the opportunity to see Danny ride for the Kings, coincidentally against Rye House Raiders. Ben Morley was the best rider on show. Danny won races comfortably but his technique was still poor, the wider Central Park bends being more forgiving. He's keen as a badger but the apparent paradox of "slow down to go faster" is spot on. If he concentrated on technique and racing lines he'd make progress around the track. His "job" is to beat the opposition 7 at home and better technique than quicker speed would consistently do this IMO.
  3. This was my first ever NL meeting. Being down from Glasgow for a family holiday I had to see Danny riding for his "wee" team. I really liked the stadium. The ladies at the entrance were very welcoming. The racing was as I had expected with very mixed abilities. I took a speedway virgin with me and he really enjoyed himself. Speedway's basic rules are pretty easy to understand. If I lived locally I'd be back every week although I'd have to avoid those speed calming measures on one of the roads in. What are they all about?!?
  4. I must say I was impressed with your "wee boy" Blobby. That's the first time I've seen him. In novices I look for a smooth style - which he certainly has - really pleasing to the eye, on the bike. Aggression, track tactics and speed usually come with experience, unless you're an off-the-hook natural.
  5. Is Willie Lawson just having a bit of fun or is he on his way back? What age is he now?
  6. Fair enough but what's the point of practising on an engine you don't compete on? Unless there's some kind of logic like practising with a smaller sized football or swinging a baseball bat with weights on it?
  7. I'm lost here. "He only rides them at practise". What's the point in doing that? Is it just a personal physical strength and conditioning? I can't see the point of practising on an engine you don't compete on. Maybe I'm missing something..............?
  8. A bargain Adult entry £10 to get in local derby Coventry vs Wolves in the EL this evening. Imagine getting in to speedway for that cheap. Hopefully it's rammed.
  9. I did have a look at the fixture list but didn't count the reserved dates. Fair enough the majority of fixtures are Friday if you count the reserved dates. I was counting the actual dates that are scheduled to happen, not maybe happen.
  10. I know this is probably wildly simplistic but could Peterborough redeclare their race night as Sunday? It is kinda weird that they're a "Friday" track when their majority of meetings aren't a Friday.
  11. 4th bend covered is where I stand now. My traditional (and still preferred, in terms of viewing) berth was the left hand side of the enclosure but it's too busy for me to be comfy now.
  12. Fair enough, I certainly concede I was arguing on probably the incorrect thread but I am very concerned about pricing. I believe Glasgow are charging too much and that it may IMO be a fundamental flaw.
  13. Do you suffer from Tourette's? Yes it is £22.50 at Glasgow compared with £17 at Berwick. If you'd actually bothered to read this thread these are comparative totals for Adult Entry + Programme + Parking. At Glasgow this is £17.50 + £3.00 + £2.00 = £22.50. At Berwick this is £15.00 + £2.00 + £0.00 = £17.00. Do keep up.
  14. You're missing the point.....or just being deliberately obtuse. It's not that £17.50 is a lot of money, on its own. It's £140 for my partner and I to go four times a month......now that is a lot of money. Please do not recount your SCB story for a fourth time.
  15. Aye I take your point again but we get paid monthly, or weekly of course and all my personal outlays DDs and SOs are monthly. Paying for speedway is an instant hit from our monthly budget.
  16. I take this comparative price point but speedway is four home fixtures a month, football is two home fixtures a month, so it's twice the outlay to follow your speedway team at home compared with football.
  17. £17.50 + £3.00 for a program is too expensive for me personally to go every week. "If they built it, they will come". Well they're not. I don't personally give a flying for chucking balls and running after a numpty in a furry suit. I think the ship has now sailed unfortunately but I am convinced they'd get more in for £12.50 than £17.50 and it's very simple economics more ppl in the stadium means more money. The Facennas are never gonna make money from speedway and it can't be their objective of course so why not slash the prices and get punters in through the door, buying programmes, buying chips and burgers, buying pints, buying merch.
  18. I can't believe anyone would have the temerity to suggest that Edinburgh could manipulate the rules to their benefit. Like they'd ever done that before??
  19. I couldn't be more positively in favour of the new PL No.7 rule, especially if it's a young British guy. I have not had the advantage of seeing live the discussed Mr (or should that be Master) Bewley. One thing we can all be agreed on, surely, is that the lad must have b*lls and we all hope he becomes a great success. If these young British guys are getting valuable track experience and are willing to listen and learn regarding set ups from the auld heids then what's not to like about this principle? If they're falling off all over the place and getting hurt and losing money hand over fist then, of course, the BSPA will need to have a rethink.
  20. It definitely won't be. Remember they're waiting for their secret weapon, Mitchell Davey. Good grief.
  21. http://www.edinburghmonarchs.co/news/article.asp?id=2324 Oh dear oh dear oh dear The might moanarchs unable to manipulate the rules to bring in an Australian dud on the cheap and will now be forced to hire a young British guy - which was the INTENT of the ruling all along. I'll try not to p*sh myself laughing.
