Plymouth V Workington 17/7 Pl
Lord Lucan replied to Penny Cross's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Your not Kylie Minogue are you? Poor result overall, judging by the updates site tho we were right in this for at least a point but again just fell away when we needed it most? Some pretty p*ss poor efforts again from riders I expected more from, we will never win away from home unless they all pull together at the same time, this is just not happening and it's sadly become the norm with Comets teams, four scorers most of the time, three not scoring most of the time? Going to be a very difficult 2nd half to the season for us at this rate, cant see a win away from home now so we'll just have to see how far up the table we can go with home wins only, coz that's all we're gonna get? -

How long have you waited for that one? -
Weather forecast "looks" OK for tomorrow so with that in mind, and Diamonds hit n miss form of late, I'm going for a home win of 50-40!! I'll even be able to attend in person this week due to last week's cancellation, my first match for about a month then it's another fortnight off til the next so, may as well take advantage while it's still here!!

After last week's attempt at predicting pts from a weakened Glasgow team I'm saying nothing about a match against a weakened Plymouth team? I'll wait for the result!! -

Not this one Jenga, glad I didn't have any money on it, still doesn't hide the disappointment tho, 1pt at least should have been possible? Absolutely, was convinced after 2014 season that both Howarth and Bach would be seen in pastures new and a team around Josh G created but it never happened, whether the asset thing came into play and, as you suggest, the finances to bring other's to the table wasn't available, just created the same format again for this year? Dont think the visa argument would have improved matters too much with Campton at reserve from the off, Palm Toft moving elsewhere might not have helped either but fundamentally the main body of the team has never hit the straps as was hoped they would? Think we are in the Catch 22 situation now, need crowds to boost the finances but mediocre performances and no stand out figures on the track to support means you dont get that input yet that is the input that generates the cash to attract the best of what's out there to come to you? I do think it will be a struggle to get going again next season unless something radical happens, maybe try and get Craig Cook back, local lad could be a handy starting point and just go from there!! Something has to happen because we cant carry on like this, an uncompetitive team doesn't cut the mustard in these parts and empty grounds prove that, success leads to success and that's something we've had in short supply over too many years to be healthy for local sport in general, it has to change and I for one hope it does!! -

Further disappointment on the road, poor performances again from far too many riders to even become remotely dangerous? This is why I can never understand why so many opposition supporters keep saying we have riders who go well at this and that track and should provide a good test when they promptly turn up and dont on far too many occasions? As for us, we know there is an issue with our riders away form and previous appearances count for nothing, we just "hope" that a result is possible from an "improved" performance but unfortunately that just never materializes for whatever reason on wherever track? Absolutely no rhyme or reason as to why any Comets team is not capable of challenging for the PL,s honours during any given season, always been widely regarded as having some of the best performers the PL has to offer yet, take it off the paper, put it on the track and....... nothing, they rarely gel in any cohesive fashion whatsoever? Perhaps that is the problem, too many ego's to massage not enough "genuine" team spirit, not enough willpower/determination to fight for more than your own corner, who knows but whatever happens between now and the end of this season it will go a long way towards determining whether the Comets fans are up for another year of the same old empty promises? As for the promotion, what do you do to keep going, you pick the team that you hope will serve you well and it always falls short, the abilities of the riders are mostly not in doubt but, they just cant seem to work together? If we do run next time round, complete clear out and start from scratch or, just cut the losses and say well, at least we tried, be a lot of hard thinking to do this season's end that's for sure and the way we're going that could very well be in September rather than October!! -

With all of the problems currently befalling Glasgow I would be very disappointed if we couldn't get some form of result from this afternoon? Our away form does not hold up to serious scrutiny and all our blokes are going to have to up their game, it's alright "saying" our riders go well at Ashfield but "will they" this afternoon when it's required or will they capitulate under the Tigers "backs to the wall" rear guard action?? Going to stick my neck out and go for a slender 44-46 win for the Comets, there, I've said it!! -

Well, this turned into a more comfortable 3pts win than I was expecting? Scunny definitely struggling this year and it's not looking good especially when you add in the hammering at Newky yesterday, all round a very bad weekend for them? Noticed Comets old friend R/R was out again, haven't followed this match at all just read the updates this afternoon, where was Wells racing? Didn't look to be missed tho some hefty scoring going on by the remainder, well, most of them anyway, good payday going into yet another spell of inaction, and you wonder why people dont go? Unless Comets can arrange a fixture for the 18th July, my next meeting wont be til the first Saturday in August, blank weekends and work seeing to that, hoping to see at least some speedway before the season finishes just in case it's our last!! -

Wont be at DP tonight but with a full team this should be a "fairly" comfortable win, 3pts and be happy enough with 50-40!! -
Appears to have been a bit of wishful thinking on my behalf that we could get something from this meeting? Looks to have been a very inept performance by all bar a couple, said before that the shuffling about just meant that the same points would just come from a different area and so it's proving, no one is "improving" too many single figure scores, low single figure scores from our main body to really trouble Sheffield tonight, by reading some of the comments here and on updates it would appear that a "just as bad as Somerset" result was only avoided by bad luck to Sheffield rather than our own efforts? Dont suppose we could blame the track could we?? Another bad night at the office for the Comets and to be fair, I really can't, and much as I'd like to, see this team competing anywhere away from DP, I can't see a result, could be that it will be just "home wins only" for us this year, team just never looks dangerous at all and it wont until at least four or five riders start putting some decent scores together at the same time, one's, two's and three's and you end up like tonight "every" night? Really must do better, we have to?
-
Definitely a tale of two halves this, Comets set off like a house on fire and were all set for the big win then, once Ippo got their act together, the wheels, while not necessarily coming off, certainly worked very loose and only one win in the last seven races very nearly cost us more than one point? Dont understand all this fuss about the riding order, everything just looked the same to me, points just came from a different area, Hansen looked outstanding at times tonight especially running down Tungate and Hawkins for vital points then, a couple of mediocre races to finish, Bach never looked comfortable to me despite the 9pts no spark, illness maybe still around, Howarth good in parts same with Mattie, Rusty definitely was just that, looked like he'd never been away first couple of races but effects took their toll late on as expected, Ricky looked sharp at times and deserved more than he got and I was quietly impressed with Matt Williamson, from an NL rider he looked very good winning his first race but well down when push came to shove, still tried tho and never gave up. good on yer!! King and the improving Covatti were best of the Witches, two very fast riders once their eye was in, gated very well and proved almost impossible to get by. Felt for Nico in Ht15, led all the way, did all the donkey work only for King to steal his thunder on the run to the line, what was that all about, Covatti deserved the race win for me, shame on you Danny!! Still, a win's a win and this pts format still gets us a 3pt success so it would never have been better, a few good races on show tonight and what looked like heading for a borefest turned into a pretty decent meeting at the finish, Comets will improve once Rusty is back on song so I dont think it's all bad, dont see us challenging for anything, cant see much return from the away form but we'll be difficult to beat round here that's for sure!!

Somerset V Workington Pl 19/6/15 7:30pm
Lord Lucan replied to Django's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Trying to give us the benefit of the doubt, only a point out with my prediction but still a disappointing outcome nonetheless, although,it could be that we rode very well and the scoreline doesn't do us justice, yes!!!!! OK, I'll take that as a no then, poor effort on the road from Hansen, must be looking forward to his spell at reserve more than I thought, good effort from Howarth/Wells to keep us somewhere near, Wethers starting to pick up some pts and it doesn't look like too bad an effort from Williamson, Greenwood a bit lightweight but, not to worry, they weren't expected to pull up any trees? Dont know what to expect later today with the return of Rusty and the reshuffle, but I've said it before, unless this away form takes one hell of an upturn we will win nothing with home successes alone, it certainly looks that way at the moment and it's not good enough? Suppose tonight could have been worse, at least Somerset didn't get sixty!! -

Oh Dear, that is not the news I wanted to hear, not always the best of performers at the OTA but I'd rather Rene was there than not, this could be tragic? Can only hope that we can at least put up a fight with what we have available and keep the score reasonable, I'll chance 56-35, fingers crossed!! -
We'll see how good this rearranged side is at Somerset on Friday before worrying about play offs etc, good to see Rusty back this week, hope things go well tho not expecting too much from him at this stage? This will be an interesting match what with Comets new arrangement and Ipswich not looking quite as hot as they once were, if it all goes to plan and riders perform can only see a fairly comfortable home win, somewhere around the 54-38 mark!!

As close as expected but reads very much like we got out of jail a bit here tonight? Happy with the 3pts but not with the news about young Greaves, struggling yes, but doesn't deserve that, best wishes Nathan your time will come round again!! -
Workington V Rye House 13/05/15 19:00hrs (pl)
Lord Lucan replied to topaz325's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Wont be here for this match "again" due to work but I agree with Gazza66, with a guest in Covatti scoring as well as he is Rye could very well nick a bonus pt from this match, Comets a bit rusty and low on confidence at the moment, should be too strong and I would be very disappointed if we couldn't make a 3pt win result? 48-42 for me!! -
For a team missing it's No1, riders not on form and an "allegedly" poor guest, Scunny have bossed this show seemingly no problem at all? Very disappointing result for the Comets, for all of the above, I thought we could have easily got pts from this match, another half team performance but even some of the scorers weren't as impressive as they should have been judging by the comments? Hansen will improve for a drop to a lower position in the team, possibly no5, Howarth probably to 1 with Wells/Bach staying where they are, the other three I'm afraid look to be on borrowed time, (that includes Barrett even tho he wasn't riding tonight) Greaves just not ready for the PL at the moment but gaining valuable experience and Wethers well, just not the rider he once was, doesn't seem to be getting the pts we'd hoped for? Still plenty of matches to go at this stage but changes need to be made sooner rather than later in order to get ourselves on track for the remainder of the season, not looking good away from home, very rarely dangerous and we need to sort it out, as I've said before, we wont win anything with home wins alone, the road is the make or break area and we have to improve our showing on it?

Lord Lucan replied to Mr Blobby's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Sad but true, just dont perform well at Edinburgh anymore? Absolutely, compiling one is the problem, no matter whom get's selected away form is erratic, disappointing even when you consider the riders we've had have all been there, seen it got the t shirt?
