  1. Not really, Jacko nearly always gives Rene, as team Captain, first dibs on TR's, very loyal!! Well, it was under 60pts so I guess that's a good result then, under the circumstances? Still a very disappointing performance and current comments like, yawn, boring, poor opposition dont make very good reading, what it does say is that the Comets will struggle all season away from home until something happens to spark us into life? What that will be is anyone's guess, dont think we'll see many, if any changes at all over the next few weeks so it's down purely to the riders we have to step up to the mark and perform better, especially away and against better opposition otherwise it's a low place finish for us this season? We cant expect much with home wins only, that wont satisfy the dwindling supporter base, a competitive team is far more important!!
  2. Comets also had a healthy following at DP as well, so if most cant be bothered to come to the home matches you've got no chance?
  3. Have to agree with most of the comments on here, it's blatantly obvious that the Comets aren't anywhere near competitive at Edinburgh thesedays so any excuse will do, just get the meeting out of the way and move on? Thinking along the lines of keeping it to less than 60, that will be a very good result under the circumstances!! Good idea taking Pyjper, ex track specialist so hopefully he still has an idea of a quick route round the place, gonna take more than Wells/Bach to dig us out of this hole?
  4. Ben Barker was a risky signing at 9+ which, so far, maybe isn't paying off in the way you would have hoped, but is it not more acceptable to have Ben on an inferior 7.5 average now with the "potential" of having him back higher up the averages later on when the problems, as such, are sorted out? You also take into account that if at the end of this season he is back at 9+, what chance does he have of riding PL next season for anyone, Ben will want to score as many pts as possible for sure, it's his livelihood, but short term gain for long term losses may mean he would more likely be looking for somewhere around the 8pt mark and have a chance of a job next time round than blast out big scores every week and limit his options? Just thinking out loud!!
  5. An explanation, now there's a rare beast!! Thank's for that TTP, makes you wonder then why they dont blade the outside line during the meeting, often heard that low rumble of "going nowhere" at the latter end of the meeting!! From where I was it looked more like he was complaining about Kyle cutting the corner as much as being sandwich filling?
  6. It's a strange phenomena, you would think a dry track would be better for quick times, racing looked plenty fast enough to my eye just doesn't show up that way on the clock?
  7. Yes, very dry and dusty, worst I've seen it in ages? Meeting took too long to complete, track just dried out too quickly in the conditions, damping down barely lasted a couple of races or three especially towards the end?
  8. Disappointing end to a match that the Comets looked to have wrapped up? Going pretty well for a four man team but losing Hansen cost us in the end, he was riding particularly well and would easily have contributed more than the 5 he's credited with, still, a draw in a meaningless match sends everyone home "relatively" happy!!
  9. Have to, all matches were to be finished before the end of May, should have been racing Edinburgh in the PL but this day was the only available date both teams had, (Saturday tracks) and Berwick are home on Saturday and get race day priority over us!! Yeah, instead of after it!!
  10. Never mind, result as expected with such a weak team but hey, let's look at the positives, it free's up some Saturday's for PL rain offs!!
  11. I thought 12pts would make this a very interesting 2nd leg this afternoon but with no Hansen, Harrison or Howarth, Wethers not up to speed, two struggling reserves and an NL guest if Rye dont hit us for six then they must be in worse shape than we are? Absolutely unbelievable position to be in, talk about the wheels falling off, hope Ricky/Rene are up for it, gonna need them up to the plate big style to save us here, just hoping for some good luck and a following wind and a better than anticipated result?
  12. Shame, and we were winning as well?? Not going to look good on Redcar, dry conditions and still couldn't get the track right to race on, dont understand this excuse, "track conditions" what were the conditions, too much dirt, over watered, ruts, too grippy, just plain dangerous, what?? Judging by some of the comments here, I dont think Comets will want this match replayed anytime soon, if Redcar do go under before the season's out then the pts we get, if any, would be expunged, could be a wait and see moment this but a sad day for Redcar if it ever happens!!
  13. My apologies if this has been asked before but, if an Antipodean rider has to have/achieve/maintain a 7pt average to race in the UK does the same principal apply to a 5pt European rider? Does the system operate in the same fashion or do the EU Immigration rules forbid that under free movement of people/services, just curious?
  14. Haven't noticed how Rye are doing recently but we ourselves aren't exactly setting the World on fire either? Assuming no tac rides is still the rule I'm going for a comfortable home win, not by as much as is being predicted but around the 52-38 mark!! Been rubbish for me so far this year, only seen two meetings and I wont see this either as I'm working so, it's updates again for me!!
  15. Going to be a tough ask now to get some points with such a depleted side, dont think Redcar are the strongest side we could have met tonight but it should be a home win, not by many tho so I'm going for 48-42 and a point for us!!
  16. Very strange affair this visa lark, very strange? At least Matty is an experienced rider who should be able to do a good solid job for us in the middle order, couldn't rely on the reserves to keep covering R/R for Rusty, just not scoring well enough to be a long term option? Don't know if he's kept his eye in racing wise anywhere but hope he can at least hit the ground running "relatively" well and pick up a few points, expect it will take a match or three to get going tho but, in the current marketplace, he's about as good a signing as we could have hoped for!! Best of luck Matty and a belated welcome to the Comets!!
  17. Well, that was a bit of misplaced optimism? Very disappointing performance, really expected better than that, just as well Ricky was on form or 60+ was there for the taking!! Very poor show from the reserves, thought Barrett would have had a point to prove but, maybe the injury taking a bit longer to get over, who knows, Greaves again not getting going but them aside, Hansen, well short of No1 status, should be doing better, Rene not as good as I'd hoped for an ex P'boro man and an OK job from Kyle but that's nowhere near good enough on the road from us to get any bumholes twitching? Must try harder if we're going to get anywhere, only a couple of games in so plenty of opportunity to shake things up and move in the right direction but, would prefer sooner rather than later!! Well done any road to the Panthers, too strong today and deserving winners!!
  18. Good start to the PL campaign for us yesterday, this will be tougher though but we should be capable of at least a point here, got more than enough experienced riders to do that so, very hopeful!!
  19. Looked a bit of a struggle to beat effectively a two man team but, 12pts is good enough for 3pts so that'll do for me!! Good show from Howarth, starting to get some big scores and can't be far from a move up the pecking order, solid scoring from Josh/Justin bit light from Ricky, didn't expect that and fair show from Simon at reserve, getting a bit worried about young Nathan, another zero return isn't good, needs to get some scores on the board and get that confidence going, making us a bit weak in the tail at the moment? It's a good start to the PL so, let's see what we can do today to improve our position!!
  20. Still drizzling as of 01.30am, be very surprised if this is on considering the amount of rain that's fallen, +1 for the early call off!!
  21. Look's like a very eventful meeting? Wasn't expecting to win being without Harrison/Wells then losing Barrett so early on, but the team has done well to grind out a result, maybe not enough to get to the semi's but a nice win nonetheless!! Hope both injured riders aren't too badly hurt, had enough of that already this season, get well soon guy's!!
  22. Thank's for that DD, now I have the answer I was looking for, if Dave H was told to be quiet then there's no doubt communication to the crowd would not be possible!! As for you "local boy" I can accept the fact of a need for quiet if that was the issue, but as I've said already, I only caught a small part of what was said "not" all of it so, and again, Thank's to DD I am now in possession of all the facts to join up the dots so, problem solved!! Amazing what the right information can do?
  23. "Are you on drugs" of course I was there and had a perfectly good view of the incident itself, why do you think I made a comment about it? Absolutely nothing at all wrong with asking why there was little or no clarification of any events, I dont have a problem standing about waiting as long as I know the reason's why!! Dave Hoggart mentioned that Rusty was conscious but in some pain and that was the last I heard of it so, excuse me if we dont agree on proceedings after that.
  24. I dont believe this, a Workington Comets thread about changing/replacing riders and not a single mention of Tero Aarnio, disgraceful!!
