07.07.2023 - Scunthorpe v Edinburgh CDCh

Especially heat 13. Only one he did bring back (heat 3 I think) penalised the Monarchs with Kye way out front. -

Well it's taken until heat 8 for the track to dry out enough to get some decent racing. -

Nathan Ablitt, 7. Connor Mountain. Edinburgh Monarchs: 1. Josh Pickering, 2. Paco Castagna R/R, 3. Bastian Borke, 4. Kye Thomson, 5. Craig Cook, 6. Dayle Wood, 7. Lasse Fredriksen. Friday 23rd June: Edinburgh Monarchs v Birmingham Brummies (Championship), Armadale, 7:30pm STELLAR MONARCHS: Josh Pickering, rider replacement for Paco Castagna, Bastian Borke, Kye Thomson (captain), Craig Cook, Dayle Wood, Lasse Fredriksen. CURTIS SPORT BRUMMIES: Nick Morris, Alfie Bowtell, Troy Batchelor, Dan Thompson, Justin Sedgmen (captain), Sam Hagon, Joe Thompson. Teams from Monarchs website. Josh & Cookie back, but now Paco out for the Monarchs. New improved Brummies team and manager will be on a high after their first home league win tonight, but they were on a high after winning at Plymouth before our last meeting with them at Perry Barr and that ended in a comfortable Monarchs win. I would expect the same on Friday although we are a bit exposed using R/R should anything happen to any other rider during the meeting.

Link to the fan video on the Tigers Twitter - obviously not the best quality but does give a flavour of the atmosphere during the best race of a very good meeting. @glasgowtigers Best race ever at Ashfield? We love this video of Heat 13 from Walter Shirra. It captures the trackside true speed, noise and atmosphere of the Tigers. #WeAreGlasgow https://twitter.com/glasgowtigers/status/1670035775411441666?s=20 -

No, just some magic mushrooms, which I do recommend to any Monarchs fans feeling a bit down today. Seriously, I do agree about Hooky - he is the last rider that should have been dropped in a reorganisation of the team (and I include Josh & Cookie in that). Still think the match will be better than most are expecting, although Glasgow, being so strong, could still put up a huge score even if we do compete well, but the racing is generally very good there. -

I guess it depends on whether your glass is half full or half empty, but even with poor gating he improved as the meeting went on and looked a determined, stylish rider who, in my opinion, will become a good quality rider at this level. I'll admit that today is probably too soon to see that promise turn into a lot of points, but you never know. -

Sedgy off the back of a Prem paid max, Kye having a confidence boosting best prem meeting so far, Bastion had a promising debut and will find the Ashfield bowl easier to ride than the Dale, Paco and Lasse have never had a good meeting at Glasgow so must be due one, and young Dayle showing last week he can pick up points at this level. Wait a minute, I think we could win this one! Note to Blobby - stop being so pessimistic, man, just relax and enjoy the speedway -

Is there something in Kye Thomson's King's Lynn contract that says he's only allowed to take 3 rides a meeting?

Scunny v Redcar 02.06.2023 league
eide67 replied to ScunnyDan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
He's still on the list - https://britishspeedway.co.uk/2023-rising-stars/ And so are Drew Kemp and Anders Rowe. On tonight's evidence Connor looks a better bet than several of the current Premiership Rising Stars. Good win for Scunny tonight - they're looking very strong. -
Edinburgh v Scunthorpe Championship 26/5/23

I know it's a numbers game, and a dates game (i.e. they had to make the changes before the averages changed on 1st June) but I'm gutted for the two lads being dropped. Jacob has shown substantial improvement this year both in his riding and his scoring, and getting a place in the Polish U-24 league shows ambition and will help him improve overall as a rider. Unfortunately it seems another team will get the benefit of that. Kyle has shown glimpses of what he could bring to the team on such a low average (home and away to Oxford and home to Redcar) and I thought would have been worth persevering with. I hope both get fixed up in the Championship soon. Welcome to Bastian Borke. I hope he will be a good and exciting rider, but however good he is he will take time to get used to the UK tracks (particularly Armadale) so I'm not expecting an immediate improvement in the team's fortunes. Looks like the management are putting all their hope in Lasse scoring big from reserve. -
Edinburgh v Scunthorpe Championship 26/5/23

Well that's because he doesn't ride in Italy every other week. As far as I know he only rides there for the Italian Championship and any other individual meetings he is in that happen to be staged in Italy (like tomorrow's SGP qualifier). Why on earth would he keep a separate set of bikes in Italy? If he could have ridden at Armadale tonight and still been able to ride in Italy tomorrow, then I'm sure he would have. -

Maybe a push bike he had as a kid. Or an old speedway frame and one of his dad's old upright engines -

Maybe Tom has another set of bikes on the continent and just has to fly out, whereas I assume Paco would have to get his bikes from Armadale on Friday night to Lonigo on Saturday, which would not be possible? -
STELLAR MONARCHS: Richie Worrall (Guest), rider replacement for Paco Castagna, Kye Thomson, Lasse Fredriksen, Craig Cook (captain), Kyle Bickley, Jacob Hook. ATTIS INSURANCE SCORPIONS: Ryan Douglas, Simon Lambert (capt.), Max Clegg, Jake Allen, Michael Palm Toft, Nathan Ablitt, Connor Mountain. Josh back in, then out again, so Richie Worrall guests. Paco in Italy for GP qualifying round, so R/R for him. Another tough one for Monarchs methinks, but confidence should be high after getting their league campaign back on track at Birmingham. STELLAR MONARCHS: Justin Sedgmen (guest), Lasse Fredriksen, Kye Thomson, Paco Castagna, Craig Cook (captain), Kyle Bickley, Jacob Hook. AGILIA BEARS: Lewis Kerr (guest), Danyon Hume, Charles Wright (captain), Connor Bailey, Danny King, Jason Edwards, Jake Mulford. Edinburgh's opening league fixture looks like another tough one. Hopefully Sedgy brings his gating gloves and the reserves benefit from the extra confidence big scores in the NDL should give them - plus Hooky's pretty good debut in the Polish U-24 league.

A nice little piece from the BBC when speedway was the 2nd biggest spectator sport in the country and riders were paid £3.40 per point. You also catch a few glimpses of a very young Jamie & Jeremy Luckhurst who would both ride for the Monarchs in the late eighties at Powderhall.

Great to see Cookie back in the blue and gold.

Plymouth v Glasgow shown as Sep 6 on British Speedway website. I don't know when the cut-off date is but I'm sure it will be extended if Plymouth need to get something out of the match.

Decided to watch the stream of this meeting after the Armadale match was postponed, and glad I did. An excellent meeting with lots of great races and an amazing comeback by Redcar to keep the race for the play-offs still alive. Happy to see Adam Roynan riding so well and agree, I thought he would go in heat 14. Scunthorpe still in the driving seat as they have a better points difference and just need to match what Redcar do at Plymouth, but they go first and would need a 7+ win to be absolutely sure of qualifying. Still a chance for both to qualify if they both get 7+ wins and Plymouth lose at home to Glasgow as well as Redcar.
