Rolling At The Starts - Growing Problem?
Penny Cross replied to SPEEDY69's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Totally agree. You just knew what was going happen when John Davis ,Ivan Mauger, etc, came to the tapes. The atmosphere it generated certainly added something to each meeting. I must admit, I don't like riders not lining up square to each other. At the Plymouth v Redcar meeting recently, Barker was almost at 45 degree's, aiming at Summers in the next gate. Despite Summers starting as far away from Barker as he could, the inevitable collision severely baulked Summers. I would have disqualified Barker, as it was clearly an act of revenge from their clash at Redcar the week or so before. -

I hope you were watching the starts tonight. Tapes very lopsided, outside going up much quicker. Don't want that at Cardiff, do we? -

Similar at Cloppenburg Superb venue. Its the only track I know of that when you come off bend 4, you can ride through gate1! Excellent meeting to start the SEC series. -

Go to the Plymouth website and click on the header 'CLUB'. There is a drop down menu where you will find a tab named 'How to find us' There you will see a Google Earth image which clearly shows the route to Park n Ride. Hope that helps. http://www.plymouthdevils.co/ -
Plymouth V Somerset Saturday 21st June
Penny Cross replied to racers and royals's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
If terrace talk is correct, there is divided loyalties between our Promotion. Until they unite, our club wont move forward. Let Somerset go about their business as they see fit. Like it or not, its their choice. -
Plymouth V Somerset Saturday 21st June

Lemon was 'signed' for 2014 having had a bad season in 2013 and then dropped. Whats the difference? You keep trolling and criticising Somerset and Glasgow threads in particular. Give it a rest. We don't all want to be tarred with your claptrap here at the SBA. If our Promotion worked as hard as Somersets, maybe we might just win a home meeting now and again! -
I wasn't impressed with him on Sat at the SBA. At reserve he should have done a lot better.

Firsly, I hope Kalle is ok after his fall. Devils had to work hard for the win. Nip and tuck all the way, until Ht12. Step up James Shanes. 2 + 1 doesn't reflect his efforts. The whole tie took a massive swing in Plymouths favour following James Ht12 exiting ride. This guy cant gate to save his life. Once he gets around the 1st turn, he sets off at a very fast pace, playing 30 metre chase! Slowly but surely catching those in front of him. With 2 laps to go, you had a feeling he could actually get a point. A lap and a half to go, he blasted round the 3rd/4th turns to line up Halsey. He kept in wound on going into the 1st turn and screamed round a stunned Halsey, to bring arguably one of the biggest cheers Ive ever heard at the SBA. The whole tie turned in Devils favour right there and then. 100% pivotal. Did his 'lap of honour' while the rest of the Devils waited at the pit gate for him. Bet hes got a sore back today! At the after the meeting interviews, he was grabbed by his team mates and given the bumps. Rarely has scoring 1pt been seen or greeted with such importance. That one ride is exactly what I love about the sport. The 'unknown doing the unexpected'. Well done James. More please! -
James Shane's did a brilliant job tonight. May only be 2+1 but it was the effort put in to get them that mattered. Biggest cheer in years when he caught and passed Halsey. Well done James.Worth every penny of admission for that alone. You can keep Perry, thank you.

Roynon out injured strengthens Devils considerably with r/r. Looking forward to watching Bellego in particular. Safe journey to any Bandits fans travelling. -
From what I've heard, the Promoters have applied to the council for 4 Saturday double headers. One meeting in the afternoon and one in the evening. Sadly the Demons are a shambles from whatever angle you look at it.

Great to see Ashley Birks back at the SBA. Generous applause greeted him. Excellent interview. Genuinely thanked everyone following last years bad crash .A very humble guy. When he won H14 he did the usual lap of honour. I don't think anyone begrudged him that win. He then did a 2nd lap, on his own to what seemed like a standing ovation. Good stuff. One or two good races, but one question. Tactical ride used in HT9. Douglas declared unfit to continue, so replaced with Jorgensen, who is put on B/W. Has the rule been changed? I have always been under the impression that the T/R can only be for a programmed ride? Ok, so it didn't make a big difference, but it could have.Take Coventry at Poole on Weds! I hope Ryan Douglas is ok after his spectacular fall. Thought he might have a groin strain they way he came off. To correct updates, he was actually in 2nd place, going for 1st and then high sided it. Whats happened with Auty? A half decent performance from him could have made all the difference. Going to be interesting IF these teams meet in the next round of the KO Cup. -
Wonderful character. Still got my tan coloured '' Ballarat 7'' t-shirt. Had some hard times on the terraces at Canterbury and Rye House being a Dan fan. Amazing the number of times folk would 'accidently' bump into me while trying to have a drink! That t-shirt has a lot to answer for! Good times at Weymouth and Poole. Got to know his Dad,Kevin and his wife Jayne quite well. In fact, Jayne taught me how to do the rubiks cube.

John Langfield at Poole. He had broken his ankle a week or so before and came out for an interview at the interval. In typical Lango style, he didn't hobble out. He hitched a ride on the tractor, right on the front, complete with crutches. As they approached the tapes, he raised one of the crutches and deliberately broke them! Said the ref had it too easy with without him riding. Poor old Bert Ball, the Start Marshall, moaned about it for weeks. Another Lango classic was at Cradley. We were queuing up outside the main entrance, when we saw Police. Sirens blaring, they swung into entrance, scattering us fans in all directions. Turns out Lango had got lost and got himself a police escort! Great character.

Plymouth again! Ludvig Lindgren in Ht9 with 49.69.

Plymouth Devils Vs Newcastle Diamonds (date?)
Penny Cross replied to DIAMONDS's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Diamonds were solid throughout, as only 4 heat winners proves.9 zeros for the home side tells its own story, with only Katajisto scoring in each race. The problem at Plymouth is the track itself. Never the same each week. This time it was so lumpy and bumpy it made Poole look like a billiard table! Riders bucking and rearing in places you wouldn't normally expect. All riders looking uncomfortable at times. That said, strangely, the track record was broken twice. Katajisto in Ht3 with 49.75 and then Lindgren in Ht9 with 49.69. Neither looked as quick as Barker in Ht1 though. Really enjoyed watching Kerr, thoroughly deserved all of his points. Terrific battle between Barker and Robbo on Ht15. No more than a bikes length between them for the 3 completed laps, before Jensens fall causing the stoppage. Strange refereeing decision in Ht2, Bates had a problem and used up much of the 2 minutes. He was at the gate, without a dirt deflector. It had clearly been noticed by the referee, as it was just being announced, when the ref lets the tapes up! The race finished and Bates was excluded. Surely the ref should not allowed the race to go ahead? Overall though, Plymouth should be kicking themselves for not getting all 3 points. Edited for clarification: I have King 10+1 and Robson 9+1, same as the Plymouth and BSPA websites, However, both Newcastle and Updates have King 11 and Robson 8+2. I believe the problem is Ht15, where updates have the Diamonds riders the wrong way round. -
Plymouth V Edinburgh (pl) 10/5/14 @ 7.15pm
Penny Cross replied to Mr Blobby's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Congratulations to the Monarchs on a fine win, and a new club record for consecutive wins. Very easy from the off. Devils were a shambles. Cook only beat himself by jumping at the start of Ht1, as he pulled back, the ref let the tapes up. From 4th to 2nd by the time they got to the back straight. Made Barker work very hard for the win. Very fast and controlled, head and shoulders above everyone. Some very strange refereeing decisions. Some real fliers from the gate were allowed to continue, while some were pulled back. Ht6 was a bit of a farce. Kalle dived under Fox, daylight between them. Fox seemed unsettled and dropped it. Totally wrong exclusion. At exactly the same time as this was happening, Masters got in a pickle on turn 3, lifted and wobbled uncontrollably towards the fence, dropping it at turn 4. Fox had remounted by this time. Astonishingly a rerun was ordered with Kalle out. Completely wrong! Roynon. looked like a 3pt NL rider. Poor effort from him, falling 3 times. When on B/W he was so desperate to get a point that he fenced Newman. Not sure how Newman stayed upright. Simota.Crazy that he was given 4 rides, could and should have been replaced in Ht13. Doubt it would have made any difference, but would have been seen by the supporters as not giving up. Jensen and Newman. They cannot seem to ride together at all. Last night, Kyle gated, looked over his right shoulder, saw Rasmus, and deliberately kept it very tight to the inside.Yet on bend 3 every time, Rasmus almost collected Kyles back wheel. Why doesnt Rasmus use the rest of the track? This happens week after week.Doesnt make sense. Didnt understand why there was a reserve change in HT7. Simota was struggling and you change your stronger reserve for the weaker one. No offence intended to Morley. I know he has to have 3 rides, but that was the wrong move. I agree with MikeyT and have said all season, the pairings are wrong. Jensen should be at No.5. Id now put Roynon at 2 with Barker. Kalle and Sam at 3-4. Good to see a fair few Monarchs fans in attendance -
