The fans might get behind him but most of the riders will be in front of him unfortunately.

Wouldn’t disagree with you but the personnel involved at the initial design and construction stage are no longer around. The people now on board are doing the best that they can with what they have. If people don’t like it they won’t go. Do the tracks you refer to attract bigger crowds than Leicester? Unfortunately money not entertainment keeps clubs afloat. There are plenty of fans around the country that would love to still be watching their defunct team on a crap track.
-
Just hope that not too many riders read Berry9’s post. If they do, they will looking for excuses not to show up for their team. Love the reference to cheating. The club have picked up on this and have agreed to remove the sign post on the first bend which reads ‘riders in white and yellow helmet colours please turn right and allow for the safe passage of those in red and blue helmet colours’. The management will also apologise for the strong team they have assembled and will discourage them from making good starts to give opposing teams a chance to win races and promise not to pass opposing riders in front of them. I’ve made this point several times on this forum and the quality of racing is down to the quality of riders on track and their willingness to compete. I’ve had the privilege of watching GP level riders giving it their all head to head on this track (when it was worse tan it is now!) and the racing was superb. The only team to beat the Lions at home last season were Poole. Nobody seems to like the Pirates (and I can understand why), but they won because their riders attacked the track and were the better team and deservedly won on the night. In the first couple of seasons after Leicester returned to the sport, I don’t recall too many negative comments from opposing teams regarding the track. The Lions were consistently beaten at home and the track was far worse than what it is now. Hope this hasn’t discouraged Berry9 from future posts. For future posts though the spelling of ‘sink’ and also ‘Bears’ (check user name reference) need to be noted for the adult checking and posting comments on their behalf.

Very good crowd tonight too. I wonder what anyone attending a speedway meeting for the first time thought? More importantly, would they want to come back? What was served up on the track wasn’t that appealing. One of the saddest sights of the night for me was Josh Auty. He’s had plenty of laps of this track in separate spells with the Lions but looked no better than younger or less experienced riders. Would he be racing this season if Brum hadn’t come calling?
-
When he sees tonight’s score he’ll be wondering what the hell he’s signed up to. Brum were quite simply woeful and only Ash Morris seemed to be up for it. I know the track gets criticised for it being gate and go with riders strung out after a couple of laps, but you have to look at the quality and attitude of riders. Poor entertainment tonight and I’m putting that down to Brum. How much better is Ellis going to make them?
-
Fast forward to Saturday. Three riders come to the tapes for heat 1 at Leicester. The two minute buzzer is sounded for the rider in white. Brum will finally have to finally crack and announce their number one.
-
Quite. Let the creative juices flow. Bring on Subbuteo speedway (under 45s reading this will now all hit Google), try to control your enthusiasm as you flick little plastic bikes around a miniature cardboard track. Only the smell of methanol will be missing.

Leicester Lions 2022 Line up

Just seen a pic of Worrall wearing the new club race suit. Plenty of traditional red & yellow (less black) which is fine by me. Ah, nostalgia……although it’s not what it used to be! -
Put your Bracewell sticker on the Brum page of the album. He will feel wanted and the team will just need one more to make up the seven for the season.
-
Great idea. If there’s one sport that is likely to have the most team personnel changes for a season it’s speedway. Before the sticker album is released it will be out of date and will become progressively less relevant from there on. So what sector of the sport’s fan base is this aimed at? Pensioners love collecting and swapping stickers with their mates don’t they? If by chance kids are interested, try explaining to them why Johnny Foreigner rides for his team and another one on a different page in the album. ‘Of course it’s not the same rider son/daughter, look at the photos, one is clean shaven and the other has a few days stubble’. The sticker album will presumably be very unsticky to allow for moving and replacing rider photos on a regular basis. Don’t know why this idea wasn’t thought of before. This marketing game changer may require you to get meetings very early to ensure that you are not one of the thousands turned away due to capacity attendances.

Leicester Lions 2022 Line up
Teromaafan replied to FishersGate's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
It’s dying because a very high percentage of the fan base are covered in cobwebs and have two digit National Insurance numbers. Before you can attract younger people through the gate, you have to make them aware that the sport actually exists. Go and check the BBC sport website. It’s not that speedway isn’t mentioned, it’s the minority sports that are covered that reflects the embarrassing status of speedway. -
Looks like things are clicking into place then as Ronald (who is only ever seen in yellow and red) will be able to double up with the Brummies. Just two more riders to be announced.
-
Quite right. Don’t know why you didn’t bother to spell Botox properly but it’s obviously getting under your skin!
-
Really, where?
-
If the awful events in Ukraine continue the FIM will presumably have to toe the line with other international sporting bodies and not allow Laguta and Sayfutdinov to compete in this years GP series? Unfair on these two but there are more important things in life than elite level speedway.
-
As an outsider knowing nothing about what is going on behind the scenes, whatever riders Brum are supposedly approaching, they are most likely stalling commitment in an attempt to financially exploit the rapidly diminishing time frame to the start of the season. The longer this drags on, the more worrying it becomes, especially if at least two of the remaining riders are not genuine heat leaders at this level. Hopefully it will not get to the stage where they have to announce Tom, Dick & Harry just to come to the tapes in March. If that’s the case, I will have to make sure I get to the Lions KO Cup leg at Perry Barr (went last year and loved the place), because if Auty is one their top two they may not see the season out.
-
Not sure how much Dan (mainly) and Joe (to a lesser extent) will benefit from another season at this level. It might well be additional laps but I can’t see either of them having to ‘race’ for many points. Hopefully their home performances will not lead any complacency that could be carried forward to Championship level. I don’t know what the third tier pays but presumably it justifies the time and expenses incurred at this level?
-
Agreed. Struggles to look at the TV camera and his eyes are always looking off to the side. That aside, he is quite slick. I’m sure when I went to Perry Barr last year that I heard the voice of Ryan Guest (the bloke that hosted the weekly speedway lockdown quiz on YouTube) over the PA and think I spotted him near the pits. I like his enthusiasm as well. If he cannot be involved this season is there such a thing as Ryan R/R?
-
Agreed. This needs to be sorted out properly in the playground (when there are no teachers watching).
-
Take your point, but accents don’t really come across in written communication! Must be a language (i.e.non English) thing then! Anyway, move on, this is supposed to be a Poole post/bitching thread so let’s keep it relevant!
-
….Or perhaps you didn’t see that it was simply a continuation of a bit of light hearted fun!
-
Try ‘ you must have gone to(or attended) a posh school’. Nearly there, but probably over achieved if you are Geordie.

Another great post to strengthen respect for the Pirates. You might have took time to construct such a humorous post, but unfortunately discovery of a new COVID variant would be funnier. Your win or lose reference is interesting. The latter is alien to Poole at the moment and when things do dip (at some point they will, it’s called life) I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the Poole posters on this forum disappear (perhaps change sports and big up Man Utd when they come good again). I may not support Poole but I do respect the shrewdness of Fat Maud and the way he operates. Unfortunately the continued arrogance of some Pirates posters is creating a time bomb for other posters to have a field day.

They’ve just done a test inflation. Turned out to be a bouncy castle.
