  1. But far better than anything you'll ever see at Cardiff. Wembley at least never needed to be booby-trapped to manufacture overtaking. I think you'll find the vast majority who go to Cardiff go late on and cant be doing with the whole "day out" myth. And the NSS is hardly out in the sticks. It's a short bus ride or train ride into Manchester - a far better and more vibrant city than Cardiff.
  2. I'm not suggesting the NSS is a better stadium than Cardiff. However, the NSS is a far better track (its arguably the best track in the world) and is based in a far better city. You can manufacture Cardiff with bunting and glamour as much as you like, but speedway is all about the racing, and Cardiff repeatedly disappoints in that aspect.
  3. A full Belle Vue (which produces a great atmosphere if that's so important to you) or a Cardiff that has swathes of empty seats cunningly hidden by having no tv cameras fixed on it? I know which one would look better to the casual viewer
  4. Not the SGP. Just Cardif, when there is a venue that would showcase the sport in a more exciting way than Cardiff can ever hope to do
  5. The beginning of the end for the white elephant
  6. Agree 100% with this. Brandon is a fantastic venue for speedway, but even in the last few years before it was closed, you got the impression that parts of the stadium were falling down. I still think it's a big ask to get the Bees and Stoxs back in there, but having the track and building it up around it (as was the case at Somerset) would be the best option
  7. If Belle Vue was added to the list, I can guarantee the numbers trotting off the Cardiff would drop massively.
  8. Which was down to the track being riddled with ruts. That is NOT racing.
  9. And yet I know of plenty who hated going there because of the incessant noise. You forget that that Wembley 81 final featured 2 of the greatest races ever seen. Nothing to do with the atmosphere. Cardiff highlights one of the big problems in speedway. People just happy to put up with any old garbage, even when it costs a kings ransom. A GP at Belle Vue would show speedway in a perfect light. Great racing on a proper track. You can dress up Cardiff with all the trimmings you like. It will always be the emperor's new clothes.
  10. Stop trying to kid yourself. If people want a "day out" then they go to a theme park. Nobody who goes to speedway could care less about the atmosphere. They go for the racing, and Cardiff churns out boring racing season after season. I've been once and I hated the place. Staging it there when Belle Vue provides brilliant racing in a far better location is tantamount to treason.
  11. Playing the "Manchester is always wet" card again? Belle Vue is a brand new facility with fantastic drainage. The moment it was built, the contract for Cardiff should have been stuck in a shredder. Speedway owes nothing to Cardiff. Bin it.
  12. How about the complete lack of anything resembling racing unless its bordering on dangerous, it being in one of the most unpleasant cities in the UK, the extortionate prices that they charge for food, parking and accommodation? People bang on about it being "a day out" and "atmosphere ". Nobody is interested. People go for the racing, and year in and year out it's boring; follow the leader rubbish. We have a track in Manchester which is tailored for great racing, yet they continue to persevere with this dump? Get rid of it. Its crap.
  13. Lets hope so. That place has already done enough damage to British Speedway
  14. Not sure Jye Etheridge is being particularly helpful on Twitter. Doesn't seem understand why speedway cant run behind closed doors
  15. To be fair we've a 7 team league for the last two seasons with long spells of good weather, and clubs have STILL had to go on a mad dash to cram all the dates in!
  16. Neither will they want St John's crews spending a couple of hours at the local speedway track when its likely to be all hands to the pump. As you say, it probably will be taken out of the BSPA's hands anyway.
  17. BRITISH SPEEDWAY STATEMENT: CORONAVIRUS UDPDATE Friday March 13, 2020 A NEW season of British Speedway will start as planned this weekend. The British Speedway Promoters’ Association can confirm there are no plans to cancel, postpone or otherwise change the running of our fixtures at this moment in time. We are closely monitoring the situation and it is business as usual following the information broadcast by Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Thursday afternoon. As an association we will continue to work from the advice handed down by the government regarding the ongoing situation. We would urge all riders, staff and supporters to continue to adhere by the advice regarding frequent washing of hands in soap and water and avoiding contact with anyone who has a fever or cough. We also remind people of the government advice regarding even mild symptoms, if you feel this is the case please stay at home for seven days. In the meantime, we look forward to a successful staging of the Speedway Riders’ Benevolent Fund meeting at Scunthorpe on Saturday and hope substantial funds are raised for this most worthwhile cause. 18. No way could speedway get by running meetings in front of empty stadiums. They simply dont have the income from elsewhere to cover the costs
  19. What horrible news to find. RIP Danny. A great character and entertaining rider taken far too soon.
  20. Given the massive losses incurred by the NSS, I would have thought having the stox there for the extra revenue would be a no brainer?
  21. No thanks. Messed the club round in 2014
  22. Ole Olsens was the best one I think. Spoke very passionately about British speedway and was scathing about Tai not racing in the UK. The Correy/Ermolenko one was pretty good too
  23. The Hans Nielsen one was organized at the last minute in fairness (about 2 weeks before I think). Certainly would have been better attended with more notice
  24. Never seemed completely at ease at Monmore, so will have to improve on that next season.
