No...my original post related to any rider from any era, hence Bluey Wilkinson.
Today's post refers to riders I personally saw...Bluey having died 8 years before I was born.
Mind you Iris, the senior moments are becoming more frequent
Of all the riders I saw in 25 years of attending speedway, picking 1 is impossible.
I would have to choose between Lofqvist, Harrfeldt, Carter, Briggs, Nordin etc. etc....the list is endless.
It's hard to believe my one and only visit to the home of the Archers was nearly 50 years ago.
Old age does not creep up I have found...it b****y well races!.
As an impoverished pensioner with no transport and 50 miles from the nearest track, I don't get to watch speedway. BUT...if I could I would get to Berwick.
The team looks good, the stadium and track look good and I reckon the racing will be good.
Can I be an honoury (?) supporter?.
My mistake...was not a Showbiz 11 but a Doug Insole 11. I think c. 1969.
I can't remember which charity it was for or who took part...I recall Stan Stevens playing.
I organised a charity match in the late 60's between the Speedway Riders 11 and a Showbiz 11.
I can't remember where it was held but I think either Wanstead or Leytonstone.
Memories have faded but I recall The Speedway side losing heavily and playing the 2nd. half with 12 men!.
