He was great wasn’t he Lisa, really loved his enthusiasm on the mic, and it added to a great atmosphere….. The champ is hereeeeeee, Artem Laguuuuuuuta. Sooooooper Stevieeeeee Worrall In fact there was a lot to be learnt from this meeting, the live band before the racing, all the riders coming out on Harley Davidsons, it really adds to the atmosphere and evening out. Add to that great testimonial merch at very reasonable prices and very even teams making it nip and tuck all the way through before a last heat decider. My favourite meeting of the season by far, more like this please!

Barry Bishop, facebook, 26 May June 4th Nora No Brakes Racing League meeting at Iwade to be cancelled. Following the hugely successful first round, we are devastated to inform you that the second round of the Nora No Brakes Racing League scheduled for June 4th at Iwade Kent has been cancelled due to unprecedented pressure from the SCB on Kent Royals owner Si Kellow. The situation is as follows; Barry Bishop and Martin Widman hire the stadium directly from Sittingbourne Speedway, we applied for the permit, we ran the event for the 1st round. The only link between the Kent Royals and Sittingbourne Speedway is that Graham Arnold is cited as being the Royals co-promoter, and he holds the lease on the Iwade track. Si Kellow is connected to Sittingbourne Speedway in the same way that we are - he hires the stadium for Kent Royals matches. Si Kellow is not a part of No Brakes Racing, yet the SCB have both imposed a fine on Kent National League Speedway (the company owned by Kellow) and revoked the Kent Royals SCB track licence suspended for 12 months telling the Kent based club that they must only run events under ACU and SCB citing the threat of pursuance of the SCB in the event of a litigation claim, despite both SCB and Nora being underwritten by the same company Sports Insure. The Nora No Brakes Racing League has no wish to see any Speedway club close even if we totally dispute the reasons, so we have to cancel June 4th. Not only does this cancellation deprive Iwade Speedway of much needed revenue, it also deprives riders of track time and you the fans a great afternoon’s entertainment. The feedback from round one has been staggering from volunteers, fans, sponsors, and rider, and we urge the SCB to reconsider its approach to the situation. There is so much more that could be written about this situation but for now we must support Si Kellow and the Kent Royals to ensure we don't lose another club for the most disgraceful of reasons. We shall of course continue with a full season on the Isle of Wight, continue to grow the Nora No Breaks Racing League, and our door always remains open to discuss anything with the SCB. We look forward to welcoming you at Smallbrook Stadium on June 22nd when We open our summer season.

Scunthorpe is run by Rob Godfrey, chairman of the BSPL who have done everything to make this as difficult as possible for Barry and Martin. I understand your sentiment though, I’ve stopped attending BSPL/SCB events and save my money to go to as many on the Island as possible. This latest ‘stunt’ is quite disgusting. How on earth has Si Kellow landed a fine when he’s had nothing to do with this NORA league, all he’s guilty of doing is leasing the same track that Barry did for his event. There’s no other way now than for some other UK promoters to be brave and pull out of the SCB league next year altogether and join the NORA league with the IOW and run meetings for the fans like the good old days we all remember and enjoyed. Lets hope Sittingbourne and a few others can be tempted. Keep going Barry, there are hundreds of us that applaud and support you. Don’t let them grind you down

Agreed! I was looking forward to this when I saw the Swindon top 3 announced but those reserves against Newman and Roynon means I might give it a miss, Poole will win extremely comfortably -
The future of British Speedway after the 2023 season
Marky_Mark replied to TTT's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Hmm partly true, partly not So imagine if the sport had been run differently over recent years, we may not have the perception from all of these stadium owners that speedway is not profitable for them. A better product, more entertainment, more promotion may have attracted larger crowds which may have meant more money coming through the concession stands and higher rents to the stadium owners who would then be more keen to keep the sport? -
Ok but surely Wolves Speedway would run on a different night rather than not at all?
-
Surely it’s not unreasonable to ask entain what work they will be doing to the stadium to make it a ‘premier greyhound venue’ and how the speedway track on the inside of the greyhound track prevents them from doing so?
-
Sadly it’s almost irrelevant what they were offered as CVS has said that he signed it but it was never returned with a counter signature on it and therefore there is no agreement. A really sad day for the sport in general and I really feel for all the supporters and everyone involved with the club. Where on earth does British speedway go from here!?

Any more news on this please? Did any “problems” get resolved?

Is the Peter Craven meeting included in a monthly pass or a separate charge? Thanks
-
That’s shocking if true! I’m not sure why he made such an effort to take it from you when he then ran it into the ground anyway. Are you still having at go at the WSM track on your own Brian?
-
Any news on future plans from the forum?
-
Unless the Hancocks still hold a promoters license, in which case nobody can open another track within a 30 mile radius. You’d assume they would lose that license when the track closed but who knows?
-
It would be a shame if this project has hit the buffers as like others I was keen to see a return to speedway in the area. I also have no idea who’s involved and who said or did what but something conflicts to the original statement that said this would be basic facilities that would gradually build up, just as many start up teams have….. a 25,000 people arena for major pop events would give the council far more cause for concern?
-
Does anybody know if Troy Batchelor has a championship side for next season? Places seem to be filling up fast so not many teams left that could fit him in?
-
I’d assumed that the consortium are those tagged to the Facebook post? (Apologies if that’s not the case) Amongst the names are Henry Atkins dad Mike Atkins, former rider Steve Bishop and former Weymouth Wildcats promoter Brian White. Good luck to all involved, the sport sure could do with a boost of new tracks opening
-
Why? Surely they just want a promotion to pay the required rent for every meeting, why would they feel the need to dictate which level you’re racing in?

Plymouth Gladiators 2022

Does the meeting referee not walk the track and do an inspection an hour before tapes up anymore? If so then what changed between that track inspection and then a few minutes before the meeting was due to start with everyone in the stadium? -
Heartbreaking! I don’t suppose anyone has any pics of what the defunct track now looks like?
-
Hi there, apologies if anybody has covered this elsewhere and I’ve missed it. I was just wondering, does anybody know if this fantastic track has been ripped up now?
-
Ouch! The previous promotion made a loss and now you want to try and re-open paying double the rent! Don’t get me wrong you have my full support and I really hope you succeed but it’s going to be incredibly hard to get up and running and break even?
-
Hi there, very best of luck to you. I sure am missing my visits to Arlington this season, and it’s been one of my favourite tracks for many years. I’ll keep everything crossed for you but that’s a whopping start up cost and then it was already loss making. Interesting to read that the rent is double what you expected, does that mean the landlord has increased it since last season or it purely means that you estimated it and it was far more than expected. Any thoughts on doing a share scheme? 100 fans buying in at £1000 each for example?
