  1. I was always puzzled as a youngster about Garry Steve, because he seemed a happy go lucky chap when i see him ride.I have his prized autograph and always thought his reputation was false. In a way just like Jack Millen he had a fearsome reputation but people have commented on just how nice a guy Jack was he was great for helping young riders.Back to Middleton Steve how good was he ? you would know more than me on that score. He was really good for Oxford fast and aggressive it is such a shame how his life ended up.
  2. Totally agree Terry , Thommo is a shoe in yes Middleton with all his ability has to go down as a underachiever.
  3. Middleton would be higher than no 7 Terry wouldn't he????? he was very talented was very good at Hackney and Oxford .
  4. Great point yes Doncaster was great value i liked him like Tatum moved up full time in a tough British league without NL experience.
  5. Spot on Steve sorted my progs out and in 1976 ( i remember spill now with Kilb, Brian got injured he was awarded a point in heat 4 .Swindon won 47-31 Ashby 12max. Gordon 14. 1978 Mastrup debut 0 knew there was guests Nigel Couzens 5 John Barker 4 for White City Swindon 36- White City 42 Kennett a 12 point max great days.
  6. I can remember Steen Mastrup making his debut against the White City i think ? and if i remember rightly Brian Clark rode for the City that night.?
  7. When you look at there Championship side Steve it does not look breathtaking there team ephic and spirit must of been good.
  8. Some really good riders there Andy do you remember Jack Bibby.??
  9. This week has been great because the fans have been kept up to speed about what is happening. The new track looks exciting, so roll on the pressday and i cant wait until the 11th.It has not been easy for the promoters/Rosco over the last few years because they are often in Limbo a lose/lose situation.Alot of the stuff they dont know themselves so i suppose the best ploy is to say nothing hope thing's turn out well speedway in the UK need Swindon just like every other Prem club.
  10. This changing of the track could be the best news the fans have had for along while it is quite exciting really. The track might take a while to develope but hopefully we will get better racing than we have been served up recently the widening of the straights should help anormously.
  11. Louis snr) , Louis jnr) Rickardsson, Gollob, Sanders,Sigalos,Davey
  12. Not to the levels of yesteryear, correct King's Lynn have been great for that over the years. My main point was riders then were often kept on there popularity rather than there points potential.
  13. When i first started going to speedway as a young un the special part for me was the visiting teams. Most of them had a top class no1 who maybe you would only see once or twice a season that made it special .Also the team's lesser light's of the sport and every team had them we could all relate to them they were one of us i miss that part of it.My team Swindon had two lesser light riders in Keen, Hitch, they both give me alot of pleasure over the years .And i often wonder in this era they would of been replaced without a thought but not then because they were idolised by there home fans different times.
  14. Have alot of John's stuff terrific reading. RIP John.
  15. More house's will be built but touch wood the speedway will still be aloud to continue. My take is as long as there is still speedway to go to twice a month i am more than happy the new stadium great IF????? it happens but i am happy to plod on with the tired old version. That is why if they can get the new shape of the track right good racing can develope again and that might compensate a little towards having to put up with a tired old stadium.
  16. Tell you something Steve i never ever thought that a bigger track would deteriorate as much in a short space of time as the Abbey has.I believe the straights are to big for the bikes now and if this track is shaped on the Somerset model it has to help to provide better racing.
  17. Great stuff Grachan, that track needed reinventing the racing generally has been dog poor for along time now.As Speedy Pete says if the entertainment level can go up the crowds can stay healthy and we are still well supported generally and i am convinced we can get a gate between 12/1400 most weeks fingers crossed anyway.
  18. If it does end in tears so be it, no good worrying about it it is out of the supporters hands, me personally i am just grateful we still have some speedway to watch in 2019.As time goes on i am more hopeful that the club might still have a future because to be honest i thought it might be over by now all the fans can do is support the club while it is still there.
  19. A really good post and the case you put is a pretty strong one actually Falcace you are one of the few people who really have recognised how good Sigalos was.
  20. No,Steve if you have the Lee DVD there rivalry was outstanding lee beating Penhall from the back at Gothenburg in 1980 and in a World Cup round in 82 at Kings Lynn. ,..
  21. Totally understand Sam thanks for that no i am passionate about certain stuff but i do respect what other people have to say.Chunky god i respect what he says always have done just got the vibes that he was getting chopesy and does not respect anything i say.
  22. Your tone is not good yet you twist it around to make me look the villain.Your opinion is sound and i respect it i dont get the same vibes from you just saying.
  23. You knock me but boy you have a huge chip on your shoulder is there any need for this childish remark.??? Your opinion i respect but i dont see that coming from you oh well i wont lose any sleep over it.
  24. Not offended Steve not one bit you put a great case across i would not of named Collins in amongst them after 1977 because his hopes of winning another title had gone.
