Never been on the M62 then?.
-
With big gaps between fixtures, you could probably find enough dates to allow two teams to use the stadium.

Glasgow Vs Redcar 2nd leg KOC QF 30th May
Derrickn replied to LisaColette's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Never mind the qualifier,he won the final at Coventry,in the rain, with the leg still broken. -
Look in the international section, for a list of French fixtures.

Yes,it did used to happen in this country.I was friends with the guy who used to dish out the fuel at Halifax.

Wolves v Aces Cup 2nd leg 10/4
Derrickn replied to noaksey's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
It's funny how perceptions change.I used to think Sheffield was one of the best tracks in the country, with wide sweeping bends, but now people are saying it's too narrow.Has this something to do with the different style of riding needed for the laydowns,as opposed to the upright engined bikes. -
I thought Peter Adams rode for Stoke, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Oxford v Swindon Select - Rescheduled April 19
Derrickn replied to Grachan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
It's only what most football clubs do,some bang it up from £20 to£25 on the day,and pay on the gate is very rare now in league football. -
List of Speedway promoters past & present.

Jess Halliday,at Bradford Greenfield,probably 1962 or 3. -
This mirrors the situation in the early sixties over the formation of the Provincial league. The then ruling National league threatend all sorts of reprisals against any National league rider representing a Provincial league side, but they soon came to realise the game was up,and National league teams started lending riders to Provincial league sides.I remember Belle Vue loaning Jim Yacoby, and Jack Kitchen to Bradford.Soon after the British League was formed, which in my opinion saved British speedway.Could history be repeating itself?.

Halifax ran on a Saturday and it was ideal,as after the speedway a lot of fans drifted off into the local pubs and clubs, and fish and chip shops,so it was a winner all round.

Now that was a man who knew how to prepare a track.

I would think Harris would want a mid week track,to leave the weekend's free for riding grass/longtrack abroad.
-
There are several videos of the meeting, taken from different points. There is practically no one on the big banking, and those in the stand are all to the back few rows.Sadly,Odsal is far too big for the crowds that attend, and that includes the rugby. It must be almost impossible to maintain an old venue of that size, and you have to fear for its future.

King's Lynn v Belle Vue (SGBPB)
Derrickn replied to Mimmo's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
It was said BV had signed Lambert as a Long Term replacement for an injured rider.Well that was a load of BS. -
There is a video on You Tube from the latest stock car meeting at Odsal in October. The crowd is very sparse,to the point that I don't see how it can pay its way.Could be trouble ahead for Odsal yet again.

As the rugby football league are one of the sponsors of the proposal, there is no chance of the rugby club leaving. They are certainly not happy with the width of the pitch, that could be one of the reasons for no track being provided for.
-
Speedway and stox not included in the new plans, but don't worry,we have heard it all before and nothing happened.Wildly over optimistic attendance and revenue figures being bandied about.Once reality sets in,the scheme will be quietly dropped.
-
So what we are looking for is a new Provincial league, for those of us who are old enough to remember it.

Period of mourning. No sport activities.
Derrickn replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
My mind could be playing tricks on me,but I can't help thinking I went to a meeting somewhere over the Christmas period. It would have been late 60s or 70ts,probably in Yorkshire.Of course,it could be senility setting in. -

The tour of Britain cycle race has been abandoned ,partly because police assistance could not be guaranteed. -
So is Oxford, and same promotion as Berwick.
