Can I tell you a story Tigerblade ? Sit down then...and I hope my memory holds out You're right, the Bradford '90 Final was Sam Tesar's first UK meeting. The Continental Final was at Norden that year, and the Top 5 qualified for Bradford. Pre-meeting favourite, Gerd Riss, arrived at the pits for practice with his arm in a sling, as well as a crutch under his other arm. He was bent on playing mind games with the opposition...so he only did a couple of struggled laps at practice, on a bumpy track. However, it was all a blag and he stormed the meeting with a maximum There was a run-off between Zoltan Adorjan and Armando Castagna (I think for 2nd/3rd)...which was an excuse for them both to have fun on track - they also chased each other round the pits for ten minutes afterwards Roman Matousek was 4th. I was in the pits with Roman and his brother, as well as Darren Spicer, and we were in between Tesar's pit and Toni Kasper's pit. They had tied for 5th place and needed a run-off to decide who was going into the Final. Both of them understandably took it very seriously and were focussed on winning. But Evzan Erban(sp.?), the Czech team manager and Jawa boss, came over and spoke to Toni. Roman translated for me, and it turns out that Evzan told Toni he had to throw the race, because he'd had his chance in the UK and Tesar needed to be given the place, in the hope of him getting his own chance to ride over here. Toni looked awful in the pits, obviously. In the run-off, he flew out of the gate and led for most of the race before shutting off on the final bend to allow Sam through. I must add that Tesar knew nothing about the arrangement. In fact, being such a nice bloke I've never believed he would have allowed it to happen. But Kasper was in tears in the pits after, while Tesar was on Cloud 9. The irony of the Final was that Gerd Riss did actually get injured and had to pull out, which meant Toni Kasper got to ride as his replacement, and indeed Tesar was signed for the following season and had a fantastic career over here. There can be no doubt whatsoever that Hans has been brilliant this year, far more consistent than any other season. He's done it without having "GP bikes". And he's not been a naughty boy either There's clearly on-track issues with Ryan Sullivan - but who doesn't have them ! He might have achieved that while in the GP's, we'll never know, but I have to say his professional attitude has impressed me a lot and he will hopefully take his chances in the future in the same way.

The biggest winners of this GP... Last-2-1st claimed a whopping 6800, thanks to Greg and AJ. Subedei picked up 3500. Shale Eater snatched 2900. Sulli banged-in 2700. And Mateusz grabbed 2400. No really massive losers this time, but one made it 4 figures... Electro lost 1000, due to the Pedersen's. The Concrete Cowboy dropped 690. And garf lost 500. All 3 however, remain in the series...with plenty of time to catch up too. If they chose better next time ! I enjoyed Cardiff...not the best ever, but still an enjoyable day and night - and that's what it's all about. The biggest crowd yet - 42,000+...most of whom seemed content to cheer anything and everything Truly terrible sound system within the stadium, not for the first time either, but the other time it was like that, Sam Ermolenko was on the microphone so it was a blessing that the speakers sounded like they were underwater. Rickardsson was the only rider booed - which was fun. The white line painter was clearly drunk. The racing was alright, some of it very good. More interesting than a couple of other GP's so far. I still think no rider attempts to milk the crowd AT ALL. Opportunity lost again. The fireworks were ace. The wandering Polish flag waver's were cool. The company was top class, bubbles included And I can't wait for next year when I can drink my usual amount, instead of staying sober - not advisable imo

I enjoyed the trip a lot, if not the racing. It's never been a great track, but the fact is any GP can turn out to be a bit dull. I actually feel that Rickardsson's poor show had a lot to do with the flat feeling. Maybe it distracted some riders, I don't know. I certainly noticed a lot of dodgy trackwork going on to help the Polish riders, not sure they will feel it really worked though. Felt a little gutted for Nicki, but he made the mistake and Zagar kept the door closed well in their semi. But with Crump and Nicki holding the top two places, I'm happy enough with that. If the series continues to mirror the unpredictable Elite League, we could be in for many more surprises this year...
