Commiserations to the Comets. They have been a credit to the sport this season. Injuries certainly haven't helped them especially losing Tate early on in the year. I hope to see us lock horns next season and I definitely will be Coming up to the Gt Tyres arena at Northside next season. Well done to the Pirates.

The play-offs for the Championship start this coming Wednesday when the Pirates take on the Comets for a place in the final. The other semi final on the sane evening sees the Oxford Cheetahs take on the Scunthorpe Scorpions . The Pirates have had the upper hand in all but one encounter with the Comets this season but that counts for nothing in the play-offs. Workington will require 3 guests to cover for their injured riders over both meetings and Poole will need a guest at reserve and possible rider replacement if not fit for Sam Hagon. Hope to get a good lead to take up to Northside next Saturday. Thoughts?

After last weeks disappointing but not unexpected defeat in the league to Oxford the Pirates are back in action this coming Wednesday against the Comets in the Bsn. Last time the Comets visited in the league they were crushed 61-29. Not expecting the same result this time around and at this present time I don't know the 1-7 of the Comets. Poole need to bounce back from the two defeats in the league and set about building a good lead to take up to Northside next weekend. Thoughts?

This coming Wednesday the Pirates take on the Oxford Cheetahs in the search for league points. The Cheetahs have a powerful top two of Sam Masters and ex Pirate Scott Nicholls who both are good value to watch home and away. Especially strong around Wimborne road. The Cheetahs third heat leader being Ashton Boughen who guested for Poole on their recent northern tour. The second strings being Cameron Heeps and Jordan Jenkins and at reserve Luke killen and Jordy Scott. The Pirates having suffered their first defeat in the league last night at Scunthorpe will need to bounce back and pick up the points and also hopefully the bonus point also. My concern at the moment is the loss of form in young Sam Hagon and also that of Tobias Tomsen, who I think is still not recovered from his ankle injury and not fully fit. Reserves help to win meetings and he should be winning heat 2 at the very least. The other concern is the injury to Vinnie Foord and if he is out for the season than that will be a sad loss. We are still top of the league and a win on Wednesday will help to consolidate that. Thoughts?

After two brilliant performances away at Glasgow and Workington at the weekend it's destination Wimborne Road this Wednesday when the Glasgow Tigers come to town. Not sure who the Tigers are using as a guest for Stevie Worrall but it should be an entertaining meeting with a certain mr Harris in action. Expecting a comfortable home win but you can't take anything for granted. Thoughts?

This coming Wednesday sees the recently arranged 1st Leg of the k.o.c between the Pirates and the Scorpions. The Scorpions being the current cup holders, defeating the Pirates over 2 legs in last seasons final. Can we get revenge? The Scorpions have several riders who go well around Wimborne road, including Jake Allen, Simon Lambert and Michael Palm Toft and Kyle Howarth. Connor Mountain has had good and bad meetings at Poole and they have also ex Pirate Nathan Ablitt. Not sure if Luke Harrison has ridden at Poole or not. We will need to be on our A game for the full 15 heats to take a decent lead up to the Eddie Wright Raceway whenever the 2nd Leg is arranged. Thoughts?

This Coming Wednesday it's back to league action for the Pirates when they take on the Gladiators. It's been a stop-start season with gaps between meetings and I feel that has not helped our home form. The track seems to go slick very quickly and I think its affecting the home riders as there is very little passing. This issue needs addressing as we have some important meetings coming up. On to Wednesday and it will be interesting to see if Nico Covatti improves on his last visit, where clearly he was still struggling with his fitness. Dan Thompson impressed me on his last visit and Ben Barker can ride well at Wimborne Road. The Pirates top three should hopefully win the battles overall but will need to show more consistency which has been missing from the previous 2 meetings at home. The middle order and reserves of the Gladiators which includes ex Pirate Kyle Newman should see Poole come out on top overall when they meet. Sricking my neck out, Poole to beat the Gladiators by 10-12 points. Thoughts.

This coming Wednesday the Pirates take on the Redcar Bears for league points. The Bears have had some mixed fortunes so far with results and injuries to key riders like ex Pirate Danny King. They have Charles Wright as their number 1 and he is always good value around Wimborne Road and have recently added ex Plymouth Gladiator Dan Gilkes to their squad to replace Jonas Knudsen. Not sure who they have guesting for them for the missing Danny King. My feeling is that this should be a comfortable home win but you only have to look at the Berwick performance last week to realise that no meeting is easy. Thoughts.

Weather permitting, on Wednesday the Pirates take on the Bandits for league points. Not sure if Lewis Kerr will be riding or will there be a guest. To make it interesting, the Bandits have 3 ex Pirates in thier ranks, namely Rory Schlein, Danyon Hume and Drew Kemp. Poole did get a last gasp win at Shielfield Park back in early May so the Bandits will be up for revenge. Apart from Max Perry who is struggling with his gating we are on form so it should be a good contest. Berwick have Bastian Borke at reserve and he could be a trump card for them. Without appearing to be over confident I feel that the Pirates should come out on top in this encounter with our current home form. Thoughts.

On Wednesday we take on the Gladiators at Wimborne Road and then at the Coluesium on Saturday in the Bsn trophy, to determine who wins the group. The Gladiators have shown some resileance in their last two meetings against Edinburgh and Berwick, with a result at Armadale and a fighting display at Shielfield Park on Saturday. With two ex Pirates in thier ranks in Kyle Newman and Joe Thompson along with brother Dan, they will pose a threat. The closeness of the meeting for me will depending on how Ben Barker performs and Alfie Bowtell and Jacob Hook. The Pirates will need to be on it like they were last Wednesday against the Comets. Thoughts?

It's been a few years since the Comets last visited Wimborne Road. I believe it may have been the bspa cup? Someone will correct me. This looks to be an entertaining meeting and Workington have surprised the critics so far with some decent results. Looking forward to seeing Tate Zischke make his debut at Poole, he looks a decent signing and also does Antti Vuolas if he is fit Craig Cook and Troy Batchelor have had good and not so good meetings at Wimborne Road and Claus Vissing also. This leaves the reserves pairing of Celina Liebmann and Sam McGuirk both making their debuts at Poole. Poole must not expect an easy ride against the Comets it could be a tough encounter. Sticking my neck out I think we will win but by how many I am unsure. Thoughts?

This Wednesday it's a trip to Sandy Lane for the restaging of the washed out meeting from April. Poole have a commanding lead after winning at home 61-29 back on Good-Friday and should win the tie on aggregate . Oxford will be out for revenge for sure and it should be an interesting encounter. The Cheetahs have a good top two in Sam Masters and Scot Nicholls and I expect the bulk of their points will come from them. To have any chance of pulling back the huge deficit, It Will depend on how Cameron Heeps and Jordan Jenkins perform along with Luke Kileen who has had a good start to the season and of course the contribution of the reserves : Ashley Boughen and Henry Atkins. Poole could be without Zack Cook after his fall at Berwick on Saturday so could be rider replacement. Thoughts?

Weather permitting, this Wednesday Pirates take on the Monarchs in the K.o.c cup quarter9 final 1st Leg. Due to rain offs this is only our second meeting of the season since the big home win over Oxford on Good-Friday. Looking at both teams 1-7 I feel that Poole have the edge. Edinburgh have Josh Picketing back leading the team backed up by Justin Sedgmen, a good top two. Kye Thomsom being the third heat leader. I feel that Poole have a stronger top three with Richard, Ben and Tom. The Monarchs have Paco Castagna and Lasse Fredriksen as second strings and the Pirates have Zach Cook and Tobias Thomsen. If Tobias has a good meeting to back up Zach than hopefully they Wiil out point the two Monarchs. This leaves the reserve pairings. Sam Hagon and Max Perry for Poole against Connor Coles and Max James for the Monarchs. Personally I think Sam has the beating of both of them and Max Perry should at least see off Max James. Home win for Poole not sure by how many points but enough for us to take up to Armadale for the second leg. Thoughts?

A week today (weather Permitting) the Pirates open their season with the visit of the Oxford Cheetahs . Looking forward to seeing Max Perry and Sam Hagon and hope it doesn't take long for them to get dialled in around Wimborne Road. With the Poole team my only real concern is Tobias Thomson but will give him time to see if he can perform at championship level. Hopefully we can start off with a win although Oxford will be no pushovers with Sam Masters and Scott Nicholls in their team. Thoughts.

Poole v Edinburgh Weds 27/09/23
Shaleshifter replied to SteveLyric2's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
This thread appears to redundant. Anyway weather permitting, we will get the business done on Wednesday and make the playoff final. Not sure who Edinburgh are using to replace Craig Cook. I guess it might be Justin Sedgeman. -
22.09.2023 - Playoff SF, Scunny vs Poole
Shaleshifter replied to ScunnyDan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
What are you talking about? Do you really think that Poole will not race Edinburgh, home or away. Although the weather forecast shows a 60% chance of a heavy shower on Wednesday at 4pm then at 7pm 40% of a light shower but no other mention of rain the rest of the day.
