  1. You can't shoot someone for having a different opinion to yours... I've been to Somerset many times since I've been down here and the key to a good meeting is whether or not the opposition turn up already defeated or not... I'm blessed to support a team that will fight even when they are up against it at certain tracks... But take the Ipswich meeting earlier in the season where they were hit for 65+pts... That to me was one of the most boring one-sided meetings I've witnessed... If opponents turn up and give it a go, you'll get good racing (at most tracks)... However, if they turn up already defeated, you'll get a one sided procession.
  2. Sets a dangerous precedent this does... If (and I wasn't there before you ask so am going on reports that I've read) Greaves went into the crowd to confront a spectator, he should receive an immediate ban. There's fighting in other sports which has been quoted on the many pages I've read about this but the line is drawn when a sportsman enters the crowd to confront spectators. Some may say you can't compare football with speedway... true. However, the incident with Cantona when he kung-fu fought in the crowd is comparable and Greaves should be punished accordingly. Wonderful that it was all heat of the moment and someone's said this about someone etc., but you can't confront someone in the crowd irrespective. Dangerous precedent set...
  3. Well, I enjoyed the racing yesterday though for a Cup Final and the last home meeting of the season, I thought the crowd was very poor with no atmosphere at all... Is it always that low a crowd?? The only sound I heard from the home support was when Ostergaard won a race... We got the impression that the result didn't matter but the heat wins and points scoring of Ostergaard did... As long as he won a race, the crowd seemed happy... Was a very odd atmosphere... As for the racing, well, there were a lot of races that kept you interested without really being "that's what you pay your money for" type races... Heats 13 (How has nobody mentioned the double overtake of Lawson after he wobbled coming into turn 3 and subsequent 2 lap duel between Ostergaard and Masters?) and 15 (even though, lets be fair, with the match won, were the Edinburgh boys really on the gas? Were they really going to put it on the line with so many huge meetings still to come?) were the stand-outs but those alone, it was a routine performance from us. Top 5 were in no mood to relent on the season and the reserves really should be scoring points against some of the Peterborough lower order. Hopefully makes the second leg a formality (though now being the second meeting of a DH, adds an extra banana skin in there) and onto the meetings still to come with silverware in the cabinet... However, I fear we'll be crucified at Somerset (or Ipswich for the matter) in the reserve department unless Derek can get fully fit and Aaron can find an extra 10mph from his bike... For all those saying that the PL and the League Cup didn't really mean too much? Remember, the PL saved your skin when it looked as though you'd be out in the cold and is easily the best league in Britain. I'm sure you'd also be singing from a slightly different song sheet had you built up a 20pt lead to bring North. Lastly, Still enjoy my infrequent visits to the Showground, fingers crossed for you guys that you can come to the tapes in 2015 in whatever league possible.)
  4. Nice that you've decided to create a scenario where another team can qualify at even your own expense prior to a wheel being turned from your team!!!!! Best not give you a knife then turn away, huh!!!????!!!!!
  5. Surely Virginia North would be like Dakota North?
  6. Think the Berwick vs Edinburgh fixtures will be secondary in this group as I can foresee 2 home wins (the bigger at Armadale on Friday)... This group will be decided on who wins the more points at Derwent Park and Berwick are (imo) better equipped to take more points from DP than Edinburgh...
  7. Agree with a lot of what you say, but I think Edinburgh will go with Berwick first rather than Workington should they sneak into the last place... However, it seems at the moment that neither Workington or Peterborough want that sixth place so it may be Newcastle after all!!!!
  8. And I have to add, the fish and chips have gone downhill since my first taster of them a few years ago!!!!
  9. I think you'll find, I've never posted any smug comments and generally post on topics of matches regarding my own team and at matches I was in attendance at. I don't go onto other teams' topics to gloat... This is what I perceive a troll to do - so I guess it's not even an insult, more an observation.
  10. We've lost our way? 4 defeats in the season and we're at mid-August... We've been beaten at Berwick twice, Peterborough and Somerset... 3 of the 4 tracks who rarely drop points at home... Every team will go through a dip during the season... I'd rather ours be now than at the business end of the season.
  11. Whereas the wheels on the Rye House bus are still to be inflated? For "Few", read "Most". Sedge excepted who had a pretty decent return. Derek won't ride harder for no reward this season. No, our problem last night, didn't lie at reserve. Just got to accept we were defeated by the better team... The same team who have averaged a scoreline of 61-31 at home in the league and we were also the joint second highest scoring visitors to OTA in the league this season! Unless trouble besets the Rebels at home, no-one will come away with too much more this season. Our top 5 (Sedge excepted) were found wanting last night and were a combination of trying too hard, having a rare off night or guilty of riding too close to the kerb. Some are on a witch hunt for the skipper to be removed but it's unfair to lay the blame for last night at his door. Disagree with that... Yes we were outscored at reserve but that isn't where we lost the meeting by so much last night. Somerset's top 5 were on fire last night whereas ours simply weren't. It's easy to point the finger at Derek but he rode his knackers off last night for no reward whatsoever. Which is exactly where you should be ya troll... Where are Oxford? Allen is riding the best I've ever seen him... Cookie lifted at the start on his tactical and you can't give someone of Allen's calibre that much of a head start... Easily the best rider on show last night. Would like to say congratulations to the Rebels. Better team won, simples. Kurtz's Ht15 was worth the admission money alone but to add to that the swapping of places early race between Max & Morris was also added into the mix... Well done for putting us to the sword and again you'll be up there at the business end of the season.
  12. Steve confirmed during his interview on SKY last night that his schedule took in Berwick, Somerset, Sheffield, Edinburgh then Newcastle... So guess he'll be at Owlerton tomorrow... Sure Rosco will be cursing as Stevie is the most consistent Robin this year!!!!
  13. Sickening news of a rider who's made huge strides in the sport this year.. Get well soon and come back stronger...
  14. A fully fit in-form Harrison definitely strengthens the Bandits at Armadale in place of the half fit Vissing... Kus - irrespective of what form he's in is positively useless around Armadale and Greaves will be on the pace...
  15. Think the main aim firstly will be to keep this to the minimum to ensure qualification to the semi's... A win on the night would obviously round it off but if we can keep it to 4-6pts it'll be a result...
  16. Maybe he wouldn't have had his required 12hrs beauty sleep!
  17. That ain't anyone's fault but his. He should be banned and fined for cheating the people who pay his wages.
  18. Think Panthers may just sneak this one... Have to say it isn't speedway shooting itself in the foot here, it's Bjerre not giving two hoots about the UK team that pays his wages...
  19. Think a lot will depend if the Worky management tell Wells that he's travelling to Monmore Green! Workington always give a good account of themselves at Armadale without sometimes scoring the points their effort deserves. It should be an entertaining meeting but I don't see my second team troubling my first team to be honest...
  20. Really? Don't really see too many sides getting close to Somerset at the OTA to be honest... Whilst Newcastle do look good on paper, Somerset should comfortably see off the challenge tonight on their way to another mid-50's points haul...
  21. You're talking track size, right??? And without turning a wheel... How much drivel can one person talk?
  22. Well I think we've equalled the record (some may correct me) so our next meeting is Workington at home a week come Friday. As close as that match may be, I still think we've got enough to take the 3pts so that'll be the record ours. However, we're at Shielfield the next day in the KO Cup and I think that may prove to be a tough hunting ground for us. As for the comparison, it's impossible. The 1991 Hammers were a truly awesome team but limits were higher and riders were established - some with already high averages. The team we have this year are going about their business as a team - as Al Stewart has said and when one is having an off day, another is stepping up to the plate... Take yesterday... I'd have laughed if you'd have told me we'd win at Glasgow when Cookie only scores 7... The first time he's been out of double figures in 2 years (except the Ipswich debacle and a rain curtailed meeting vs Sheffield when he was on 9 out of 9 prior to his 4th ride)... But Sedge and Stevie both came to the fore with big scores. What I would say is everyone outside of Edinburgh are saying that practically every team year on year would beat this Edinburgh team... Maybe... However, it really doesn't say a lot for the rest of the league that we're beating does it?!! As for Cookie rolling??? Have a day off will ya's?! Maybe he does move at the start from time to time but there are others in the league that are far worse for it... He's also proved time and time again in the past 2 seasons that when he's behind, he can overtake as good as anyone...
  23. Setup nicely for a Rain-Off looking at the BBC Weather forecast for Glasgow:(
  24. That is sad to be honest as Redcar have a tidy little setup down at STMP... Maybe it's just the fact there aren't that many Bears supporters frequent the BSF these days... As for tonight's match, I too believe this will be the end of our unbeaten run... However, if we can sneak a point then I'll be happy...
