  1. It's a really lovely sunny and quite warm day here in West Norfolk, so the meeting should be safe this evening. Already the crowds are arriving in the town centre, and are in real carnival mood. There's no doubt about it, this meeting has really caught the imagination of the speedway public country wide, and with coach loads coming from far flung places like Glasgow & Plymouth, the atmosphere is going to be something else. Even Jaybea's 'Fancy Woman' (he knows what I mean) is coming along, and with the big man himself making his inaugural appearance at a Young Stars meeting, maybe, just maybe, a marriage proposal on the centre-concrete is on the cards Seriously though folks, it is a gorgeous day here, and this will be almost your last chance to see speedway anywhere in the country in 2010, so please do come along and support these youngsters, you really won't regret it.
  2. We've experienced some terrific meetings at National Development League level this season, and as I've said many times before, usually equal to or even better than that you see when watching either Elite or Premier League contests. Bournemouth, Dudley and Newport are three that stand out in particular, and who will ever forget the marvellous spectacle provided when the USA Dream Team came to town. These two meetings against Buxton, SHOULD be classics, particularly the KO Cup encounter, where so much is at stake. It is a night that warrants a huge turnout, and I'm sure that anyone with a minimum of interest in speedway, will be there to cheer on their favourites, irrespective of which club you favour. It's even whet the appetite of our Wednesday night trackshop heartthrob Jaybea, who is going to come along from his Felixstowe base, and provide us with a full blown cabin of merchandise, many items of which will be at reduced prices. This is a first for King's Lynn, as we've never reached a cup final at this level before. Last year we made the semi's but lost out to Buxton 98-85, so we owe them a spanking!! The 'Hitmen' then went on to meet Bournemouth in a full-blood final, losing out to the south coast side by an aggregate score of 105-83, so they'll be as desperate to win this year as us. As I said, we've never won the pot before, but the Derbyshire side did take honours in 2002 by beating Rye House. The cup isn't the only thing the Peak District side have found success in this term, as this weekend sees them go head to head home and away with Newport in the Play-off Finals. Victory will seal their first ever league championship success, so as you can see it's a MASSIVE week for our visitors, and any silverware that eventually goes their way, will be well deserved. So although our league match that follows on from the cup encounter would seem to have little importance, don't be fooled by that idea. Buxton need to win to secure second place in the actual league table, whilst we need the points to finish the season above Scunthorpe, in much the same way as our senior side needed to against Newcastle last Wednesday. The only worrying thing about tomorrow is that according to the BBC Weather Forecast, light rain is predicted to fall between 4.00 and 10.00pm, which would leave everyone in a quandry. With Buxton racing both Friday & Sunday (Final day of the British Speedway season), and the National League Riders' Championship being held on Saturday at Rye House, then one can only assume that the restaging would have to be on Thursday. Dale, if you haven't nodded off reading through this, could you possibly confirm what the situation will be if the elements are the winners tomorrow please? Finally to close this whatever you want to call it, I'd like to offer my thanks and best wishes to Simon Lambert, Darren Mallett, Jake Knight, Adam Lowe, Scott Campos, Cal McDade, Lewis Kerr, Oliver Rayson, Chris Widman, Rhys Naylor, Ricky Wallace and James Brundle, who have all worn the colours of the King's Lynn 'Young Stars' and have been a credit to themselves and everyone involved with the club. Also my personal thanks to the likes of Barrie Evans (Mildenhall/Dudley), Byron Bekker (Weymouth), Adam Allott (Buxton), Jake Anderson (Dudley) and Mark Simmonds (Plymouth) who have given their all for this club when on guest duty. Last but not least to Dale Allitt along with Keith & Jonathan Chapman who have put up the finance and expertise to provide the public of West Norfolk with not only a team to be proud of, but a facility to show it off in. So come on folks, lets get behind the riders one last time this season, tapes up at 7.30pm sharp. Mike
  3. Oh whoops, but it ain't over yet, we're more than capable of pulling that back. Roll on Wednesday.
  4. Thanks 'Whippy', my thoughts will be very much with you all up there.
  5. Sadly Martin I have developed a health problem that prevents me from travelling. To say I'm disappointed wouldn't go anywhere near to how I feel about having to miss this fixture. I simply adore my visits to Buxton, and everyone makes you feel so welcome there. I wish both teams the best of luck for tomorrow, and naturally hope that the Young Stars can keep any deficit as tight as possible in readiness for the second leg on Wednesday.
  6. Looking forward to this meeting as much, if not more, than any other I've been to this season. Let's hope the long range weather forecast isn't right, and that we are blessed with a sun drenched day for this showcase event. It's a meeting that deserves all the right elements and a BUMPER crowd. Would someone at Buxton please be kind enough to confirm the start time? I know it's usually 3.00pm, but with the nights fast pulling in, I wondered if you'd opted for an earlier start time. Thanks.
  7. I've now been told that it will be a double-header. Cya
  8. Hi Neil & ajh, I'm hoping the meeting at Buxton will be on the 24th, then it leaves the 31st for any matches that may need restaging due to inclement weather. I don't know if the home meeting is going to be a double-header. It's a question I've asked of the management, and I'm sure an announcement will be made soon. It would certainly make sense at this late stage of the season. Cheers Mike
  9. Wednesday 27th October is the BIG DAY for the Poultec Training Young Stars, as we face Buxton in the Knock-out Cup Final. Yep, sounds good doesn't it, and with it being the last scheduled meeting for the Norfolk Arena this season, it must surely to goodness invite a large crowd. The attendance for the semi-final last Friday was nothing short of disgraceful, and was an insult to the riders who have brought so much third tier success to our club this year. But I guess that's water under the bridge now, and I just hope that when the tide comes in on Wednesday fortnight, that it brings you all in with a force. So don't forget, Wednesday 27th October.......KNOCK-OUT CUP FINAL.
  10. Great meeting yet again last night, but it was like watching something behind closed doors. WHERE were all those Mildenhall fans who a couple of years ago were moaning because the two clubs start times were so close together, that they were being denied the chance to take in both meetings? "We'd attend both meetings if Boston (King's Lynn) would change their start time" came the cries from fairly substantial numbers. I said it was a load of old poppycock at the time, and so it proved to be. Apart from an odd one or two, they've NEVER been noticably in attendance at the Norfolk Arena for a National Development League level meeting. All hot air I'm afraid. WHERE were are the couple of dozen Peterborough fans that used to come when Boston were operating out of the Norfolk Arena, saying how much more enjoyable that level of racing was than what they were seeing in the Elite League (there words not mine). More importantly, and certainly more worrying is WHERE are the King's Lynn supporters? You're club were racing in the semi-final of the Knockout Cup, am I virtually alone in taking pride from that situation? They are now just 15-races away from reaching the CUP FINAL, does that not mean anything to you all? I really do despair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. QUESTION: Am I going to try and sell this oh so important meeting for the management, supporters and riders of both clubs? ANSWER: No! REASON: Because to any real supporter of speedway racing, it sells itself. With racing almost at an end at the Norfolk Arena for 2010, you know it makes sense to be there, and the riders not only need our support, but they deserve it. See you in your hundreds on Friday at 7.30pm. Mike
  12. The riders have still got a right to earn their wages for one. It also makes the sport look unprofessional if the league table is incomplete. I can only assume from your comments, of which you are of course quite entitled to, that you NEVER attend any challenge matches at all, because to use your words, "they don't mean anything to clubs or fans". Yes it won't have the slightest bearing on league finishing places, but hey, what a mouthwatering prospect of watching the likes of Lambert, Mallett, McDade, Cook, Morris & Allott just to name six, battling it out on track. Yes, a meeting I wouldn't miss for the world so to speak.
  13. I'm finding it impossible to access any site that shows the scores from the five completed heats. Is there a kind soul out there that has the information, and would be willing to post it on here please? Thanking you so much in anticipation. Mike
  14. Thanks very much for that Dale, now we all know where we stand on that particular date. Cya soon Mike
  15. I'd have thought that was more likely to be correct, with Friday being one of Newport's racedays. I do however know that two members of the Norfolk Arena staff have been asked to work on that Friday, which casts some mystery over matters.
  16. Would someone please be kind enough to post the full results on the forum when they get a moment? Thank You Mike
  17. Bryn's 80th sounds about right!! Fabulous meeting last night, with a few new faces there making their first appearances for a Young Stars meeting. The meeting had to be delayed by 30-minutes AGAIN, because despite being advised, the media will continue to advertise the incorrect start time. Congratulations to Bournemouth on claiming a play-off position last night too. I'm not sure when the next home meeting is, because the promoters columns in the programme said that a date has still to be arranged for the KO Cup S/F against Newport, something that announcer Kevin Moore confirmed over the tannoy, yet the fixtues page says we are at home to them on Friday 1st October. Dale, when you read this, could you make an announcement on here as to the exact position please....Ta?
  18. Can't believe that five days have passed since any posts have been made on this forum regarding tonight's meeting. Come on King's Lynn fans, where are you, don't you care about YOUR club? It's a lovely sunny and warm day in West Norfolk, and tonights meeting throws up some of the best riders currently racing in the National Development League. With not many meetings now left to go at the Norfolk Arena in 2010, this would be the ideal chance for you to introduce yourselves to third tier racing, if you've not seen it before. You'll probably be tired of hearing me beating the drum for these sort of meetings, but I'll continue to do so until I'm blue in the face, because it's usually top quality stuff that you are missing. We all know how good the likes of Simon Lambert, Darren Mallett and James Brundle are around the Norfolk bowl, and what a mouthwatering prospect to think they will be going head to head from 7.00pm onwards. PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESEA come and see what you've been missing all your speedway life, you'll love it. Admission is ONLY £8 adults, and £6 for old codgers like Parsloes (well he looks and acts that old )
  19. I went to the Buxton round last season, and whilst I can't remember what it cost to get in, it was certainly well worth the money. It was a very well run meeting, and each time a rider fell, he was straight back up so the race didn't get stopped. Also, when it was there turn to race, you didn't have to sit around for an eternity waiting for them to appear from the pits, like you often have to with the senior riders, they were there and eager to go. Whilst races are obviously slower in doesn't deter from the entertainement value, so my advice to anyone that hasn't been before but is considering it, then do it, you won't be disappointed. It was an 8-hour round journey for me when I went, and if my circumstances had allowed it, I would definitely have been there tomorrow afternoon.
  20. It was simply terrible Steve. I've been going to speedway since 1958, and this now ranks as probably the worst meeting I've ever seen, even worse than the CL Pairs at Wimbledon in 2005, and that's saying something. Very wise choice to stop at home, just wish I'd done the same.
  21. Just got home and feel that I've totally wasted my day. Terrific and very understanding crowd. Delays were completely unacceptable, even allowing for the dust problem. As for the action itself, there was nothing worth mentioning. Complete waste of time and money......never again.
  22. Is there still no date agreed for this eagerly awaited fixture guys?
