Good point, can't answer your question though. Also we need to add, Is speedway for a rider also the same cost as it was back then? Cars and travel was more expensive in the 60's than it is now. So was having a bike on the back of an estate really cheaper, than having a van full of tools which doubles up as a mobile workshop? In real terms? In a fans forum, Leigh Adams was asked, why he didn't go into the more lucrative moto GP series due to him having a natural riding ability. His answer was anyone can buy a cheap speedway bike and race it cheaply. It's such an easy sport to get into. Where as Moto GP needs cash cash and more cash..... So speedway wins hands down in terms of getting kids on board racing.

I agree, and so will every other hard core fan that pays to go week in week out. But, what about the ones who aren't interested. The reason I put the suggestions, was based on the twenty20 cricket. Cricket to a none fan is slow, boring and followed by old men, speedway to a none fan is first out the gate, a cold night and followed by plebs in bright coats. To make cricket fast and interesting they invented twenty20, a white ball that you can't spin, batsman can therefore hit regular sixes, with a winner over twenty overs.. or 3 hours (I think). Worcester now sells out!!! So how can speedway re-invent itself and create a sell out atmosphere... to make sure every race has over-taking, is close, competitive and puts hairs on the back of your neck? Four blokes, four laps ain't going to do it....

Not sure regionisation would even bring in additional crowds. I started to get bored of speedway towards the end of last season, so a new league set up would not have given me the wow factor again. I'm with a previous poster, there is no atmosphere these days, so perhaps a new style of presentation needs to makeup for that. I went to a twenty20 cricket match perhaps we need an equivalent. Have a home and away "current" 15 heat format league meeting, then have another competition with a completely different take on the sport. Have races pitched over two laps and/or have the races handicaped, make it four man teams or six, change the scoring, each club to hold a set of standard engines that get pulled from a box randomly by each rider before the meeting. Obviously not those suggestions, but radically different to what speedway is now. But keep the thrill and speed element. The league what is now the National League, was radical and quite exciting when it first appeared. It survived the test of time and has probably kept a lot of clubs open in troubled times. Perhaps speedway needs to do something radical again.

Anything is possible, but unless anyone with cash and a business case has been in contact with the stadium owners, I very much doubt speedway will be seen there.

The Birmingham promotion around 2010 or 2011 did a promotional campaign around targeted local pubs in the North of Birmingham. Several people made a personal presence in each pub handing out discounted tickets and flyer. It did work for a short period, but they didn't keep the heat on, I guess it was very hard work and I suppose most helpers would have been volunteers. Speedway needs to think and decipher, why do we spend money on the things we do? I firmly believe it's because some form of medium has planted a seed, whether it be subconciously heard on the radio, television, newspaper, at the petrol station. Speedway has a terrible habit of relying on it's own fan base to do the leg work and rely heavily on returning custom. Then have a rant at the returning custom when crowds drop.

I agree it was strange, as he came out of turn four it did appear something wasn't right. He really hit it hard too. Glad to see the kid get up, but I don't think the medics were too keen on him walking around so soon. Lets hope he is fit for the return, as a brummie fan, he's a good rider to dislike... in a good sporting way of course

No-one earns any money from speedway in the UK. Perhaps they do in Sweden.

the one is bold is a good enough reason as Birminghams NL team, is our first team, not a second team like some other clubs. Is one meeting really going to make a huge difference in their development.

But SCB, you have to ask yourself why Somerset didn't follow procedure? It can't possibly be something new to them, they have been involved in the sport a long time.

Health and Safety legislation, has rules I believe, where long hair has to be netted or tied up. Most companies would enforce it as they wouldn't want any law suits against them. I guess as he is self employed, he can't really sue himself in the event of an accident involving his hair.

1) Luck 2) Decent long term promotion 3) Land lord never selling the land for redevelopment. It's generally the third option that kills a team for good. The next one up the list to kill teams for good is a promoter that leaves a trail of debt. There is also the 30 mile rule that stops a track starting before it's got off the drawing board. No long term speedway vision, just stumbling from one season to the next. That before any local politics get involved......
