Nice to see Dan starting to show what he is capable of at Workington and not just Belle Vue.
Bach looks like his best days are behind him. Don't know what to make of Klindt, too inconsistent.
Workington were lucky/Glasgow unlucky tonight; if not for the Vissing slide-off in heat 10 (perhaps a result of the earlier third bend overwatering fiasco?) and his EF in heat 12, the points should have been Glasgows for the taking.
Fair play to the Workington management for having faith in a local rider, but it's beginning to look like a case of too much too soon for young Kyle, I fear the team will be carrying him for the rest of the season.
Don't think the outcome would have been any different if Bach/Klindt had been in instead of Jensen/Bewley; I was expecting a 1-5 in heat 13 from Wells/Riss which almost happened and there would probably have been a repeat or worse in 15 had Bach/Klindt been nominated. To be fair, Jensen was probably our best rider of the night and Bewley could do with any extra track time available.
Not really, the rugby league is heading the same way, the Reds only get a couple of hundred crowd.
The continuing drop in people's disposable income, increasing house prices/mortgages/rental costs, job security worries, etc etc is the real reason.
Sign of the times I'm afraid, when money is tight then peoples leisure activities are the first to be sacrificed, just driven along Washington St in town and pubs that 10 years ago were well populated on a Friday night are either empty or not even bothering to open.
Fair play to those Workington riders that did give it a go, it was obvious from the off that the Berwick side had no intention whatsoever of doing likewise.
As I've suggested, with track conditions looking poor why not try a couple of heats before the meeting starts and before people have turned up and paid money to get in?
Yet another shambles.
If the track was unfit then why was this not decided before the meeting started?
Surely the riders must have inspected the track pre-meeting and thought "hmm, this looks a bit dodgy", would it not then have been sensible for one of the senior riders to have given the track a try out?
By the way, where do I collect my refund?
Received mine today, watched it tonight, first time I've actually seen any replays of the meeting apart from the final itself. Have to say good package overall for the price.
BUT what was the point of the frankly embarrassing 'Commentators off camera' section? To anyone who saw or has a recording of the live Sky coverage from the night (probably most British speedway fans by now), it quickly becomes apparent that they are actually commentating on a recording of the final and not the live event as they seem to want you to think. Oh dear!
Looks to me like the attendance has reached a plateau, maybe down to the fact that there are only a finite number of hotel rooms/guest houses in Cardiff and the surrounding area. Many speedway fans travelling to Cardiff face very long journeys and those with families especially like to make a weekend of it rather than face 2 long trips in the same day. Most people will know by now that if you leave booking a room for next year longer than a few months you will struggle to find one.
