Riders Who Draw In The Crowds
FAST GATER replied to ColinMills's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Sorry if you feel we are all living in the past ,your choice of riders are top entertainers in todays sport but IMO s/way of the 70's was just that bit special and had an abundance of " must see "riders in the British league .Maybe the problem is today that many of the top riders do not frequent our leagues for a multitude of reasons not least the GP'S. Gollob is pretty special on his day and I love watching Peter Karlsson sadly both have the clock ticking on their respective careers. -

Never went full time with Wolves double up and you are right that Joey had an edge but IMO that is what sadly led to his losing the use of his legs ,a little too brave for his own good.As for Tom IMO he was with out doubt another great rider but a little to physical for my liking an never quite as good as Joey and Jacko. -

The Owen Bros against John Jackson at Newcastle or Elle Port in the early to mid 70's ( all in one race even better) happy days !!!!!!!!!!! -
Well done this is an excellent customer relations exercise and restores my faith in the sport I love ,I do hope the gentlement and his daughter have a great night and well done again Worky Speedway.
-
Great news Sudden Sam is having a spin still got it and would love to race regularly but for the fact of all the old injuries he's had ,still hope he keeps going in these one offs for while yet .
-
Great hear Sam is in the meeting will I am sure try to win and not just make up the numbers just a pity he is physically unable to race on a week to week bascis ,long may we have the odd glimpse of him.

Could not agree more may even show how good or not a certain German is if they can't find a huge car advantage!!!

Tape Touching - New Regulation
FAST GATER replied to Mike.Butler's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I respect your views but I have no issue with rollers I like to see movement on the line and accept that is just my preference ,I don't want to see four static riders IMO movement adds another dimension to the sport .The sport needs to be unpredictable it needs the personalities to have their chance to display there characters not be totally sanitised .I do apologies but the starting rules in s/way (changed from the 70's ) is my main bone of contention and one of it's biggest faults IMO. -
Tape Touching - New Regulation
FAST GATER replied to Mike.Butler's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Why one sided? current riders would adjust to the rules if we reverted back ( I know there is no chance ) but flyers should not be made to lose out if the tapes are not broken or touched .I never enter into old riders being better than the current crop but Mauger &co would have been the same riders in this era as they were in their own.My point being that he would adapt to rules and use them to his advantage and spend half his life having make restarts by the way the sport is run by "refs " these days. -
Tape Touching - New Regulation
FAST GATER replied to Mike.Butler's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I am pleasantly surprised by number of people who share my views of rules regarding starts in modern day s/way ,it maybe that I am looking through rose tinted glasses at the past but were not the 70's a boom time for our sport?.So they must have been doing something right and there is IMO a fine balance from the fact that if a rider is moving he runs a greater risk of breaking the tapes.I also feel that there was no greater sight than Olsen ,Mauger and Briggs &co trying to out fox each other at the tapes.A speedway race lasts less than a minute and half and I personally considered gardening, tape touching etc part of the entertainment ,rather than have robotic race after race with four static figures at the start.I always watch the habits and routines of each rider which many do with out knowing some of which is lost in most cases due to the present rules .If nothing else changes flyers should not be brought back and punished for doing what all riders do, taking risks to various degrees everytime they take to the track. -
James Wright - Making A Comeback?
FAST GATER replied to skoobie's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I hope he decides to give it another go anyone rides and races a s/way bike deserves our utmost respect and IMO no one ever takes to the track with any reason other than trying to win. -
Tape Touching - New Regulation
FAST GATER replied to Mike.Butler's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
SORRY know I am all for letting it go unless the tapes are broken and flyers should be accepted as part of the sport I once knew , I know I am in a majority of one but it is a free society we live in after all -
It seems odd that the management would go to the trouble of running a s/way team when clearly the money spinner is the Stock cars/Bangers and the speedway is treated a poor and irrating " relation" as it were.
-
I think it will be interesting to see if Andre Compton can step it up at reserve he should very quickly improve his average and could be the dark horse of the team as it were .In theory he should be up to h/leader standard if it was only ring rust and bike setup that held him back last season or will he join along list of riders who never make that dream "comback ".

True but this is 2014 and the product and the demands of fans has changed NL racing ( with "ALL" due respect) bares no resemblance to the racing we enjoyed then at Stoke and in this day and age a decent basic facilities aren't much to ask for.
-
I for many years said any speedway was better than none but have for sometime now changed my mind ,it in fact damages the sport that is dying on it's feet .
-
Well done to you all great to see supporters and clubs working together

As you know Mr B I was one of MV fans when he came to Stoke and appeared to make all the right noises and even posted on the unofficial Fan's site with informative and honest views. What and why things changed I have no idea other than ultimately the old adage " he who pays the piper calls the tune" and we all know who that is at Stoke.I still believe that given the right support MV could make decent fist of running a team in the Nl and possible the PL but way things are going at Stoke we will be lucky to see anything other than Stock Cars sadly. Could not agree more but common sense and business acumen seem in very short supply there !!
-
I am fairly certain the promotion at Stoke lease the stadium 24/7 52 weeks of the year and are responsible for the condition of track and stadium in general ,they also I am lead to believe sublet to the stox.I think they can take full credit for the presentation of what was once one of the best tracks in the country now resembling a bomb site .

"Rolling starts" gate picking and tape touching Yes Please !!!! loved it and the oid 70's T/S rules while your at it.
-
He had said that he would race for two more yrs when he dropped down so it is no surprise but a great racer going out in style with his reputation in tact all the best JS .

Ellesmere Port Stadium Reopened This Month!
FAST GATER replied to 25yearfan's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Could not agree more one thing that has changed is the council and as I have said already they may well take a different view than the previous one,we can only live in hope maybe Mr Mole will revisit the idea in the near future. -
Ellesmere Port Stadium Reopened This Month!
FAST GATER replied to 25yearfan's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
If down to the lease agreement then money would talk ,I am sure there would be a way to work round this if all parties involved were willing to let it happen. The council is not exactly flush with money and any regular "extra " income( in allowing a change in lease terms) would be most welcome but what the views of the leaseholder on s/way sharing the stadium I wonder?
