100 % this, He got hit from behind by Pijper (I think in a British U21 a couple of years ago) and then got interviewed after and dropped the F word about the incident. Never been the same rider since and has been doing this for a couple of years now. It's a shame as he has the ability to beat any rider out there today but if he can't mix it and wont race, that can't be changed.

Just for your information, I worked with Adam Shields for 10 years (in the pits, working with and attracting sponsors, running his website and the logistical side) Since he retired ive sponsored Cameron Woodward Georgie Wood Kyle Newman and this year I sponsor Kent Eagles Charlie Wood Vinnie Foord I am also part of the team that tried to get speedway back to Arlington so I have a good perspective on the finances that involve running a rider and a club.

Sorry WMV, but I don't believe that at all. Ive worked with a top level rider for almost 10 years albeit a while ago and those figers just don't stack up. Since then, Ive sponsored many riders over the last 10 years since I stoped working directly for a rider (free of charge of course) and they wouldn't do it for that.

Ipswich ‘Witches’ vs King’s Lynn ‘Stars’ - Monday 5th May
M.D replied to StarBoy's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I know this too well, I worked with Adam Shields for 9 seasons, injury took its tool and at the end of his time in the sport he was riding within himself, didn't want to mix. I was so happy when he called it a day and has a happy life back in Australia including becoming world kettle ball champion a couple of years back. -
Riders are no longer considered assets of clubs
M.D replied to bigdave's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Yes it does, But if a club closes unexpectedly then fines are first imposed by the BSPL, any money left over goes towards debt. You have to take into consideration that if a club closes mid season, it will have a massive finiacial effect on other clubs, the BSPL will try and limit this effect. -
Glasgow v Berwick BSN cup 18/4/25@19.30
M.D replied to Paulco's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Ive watched him a lot and have taken note because he is very talented and very fast. It was at Glasgow a few years ago, can't remember but maybe an U21 final when he was in the mix first corner and got hit from behind that put him on the track beyond the air fence, he was interviewed by the BSN after and swore in the interview about the incident. Since then and I could be wrong, but he does not mix and will back off in any situation if he doesn't have clear air in front of him. I really hope that Im wrong but can't see a future in the sport with him.. -

I pointed this out 2 years ago, he is very fast when out front but is scared in traffic, you wont coach that out of the lad unfortunately. -
Agree, Gary is a good man with a heart of gold but a good choice from Vinnie that could have been influenced by the Fords.. David Norris is now Vinnie's mentor.

Gary Foord no longer works in the pits or does any meetings with Vinnie.

Riders are no longer considered assets of clubs
M.D replied to bigdave's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Eastbourne transfered assets to Jon Cook at Lakeside including Micael Mikkelsen, when that went wrong the BSPL took the assets. When Eastbourne under Ian Jordan went pop, The BSPL took the assets again including Tom Brennan and sold him to Glasgow. Under Ian Jordan, the club had money and assets tied up with the BSPL, unfortunately this money was swallowed up with fines for closing mid season so no money was payed out to other debts including rider wages. -

So, does this mean that the rider asset bond new/old clubs have to pay to the BSPL when entering a league is no longer applicable? Because its a lot of money to pay up front. -

Gutted this is on TNT as my football team is live on SKY Sports so will have to record it.. -
I don't think they did but I don't know on this. The car parks were full and a good crowd, loads of Eastbourne and Kent fans in attendance, a good few fans from Leicester too which was good to see and fair play to them..
