Is This Swindon Team The Best Of Recent Times?
IronScorpion replied to DC2's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
It wasn't that long ago that people were saying Swindon were a 2 man team & had a long tail. The same riders have now found their feet & confidence & it shows. -
Time To Crack Down On The Aussies?
IronScorpion replied to Daniel Smith's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
get in touch with immigration and cancel their visas & sponsors. See where they end up then. One meeting does not make him a superstar. A poor score will see when the squad system comes in. -

Time To Crack Down On The Aussies?
IronScorpion replied to Daniel Smith's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
British Speedway gives riders a starting point in their careers. They come over here, get a visa, learn their craft, improve & put themselves in the shop window for when Poland (or any other league) comes calling. That opportunity is not available to them to start their careers in Europe. -
Current Assets For The Teams
IronScorpion replied to Panthers89's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
for foreign riders, visa's & sponsors might come in to play -
This is, also, an area that needs looking at. Previously, any foreign rider could come to ride here on an assessed 5,6 or 7 average, then get a true average of around 4-5 then be dumped as not good enough. These riders then go home & ride in other leagues & improve, then get signed up 3 years later on a low average. Musielak & THJ are examples recently. Kings Lynn, also, signed a rider on a 4.90 average from the EL in 2013 even though he has since ridden in the EL as an EDR in further years & this year has a current CL average.

Heads Gone 2018 Team Building
IronScorpion replied to Phil The Ace's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
The old race format in the EL basically messed up the average system. Heat leaders riding against heat leaders2nd strings mostly, gave artificially low averages & reserves against reserves 3 times gave artificially high averages but when both average 6-7.00, who is the better rider. The leagues now are nearly south v north & team strength similar bar 1 or 2 riders. To get a better division of leagues the PL build to 46/47 average with reserves no lower than a 4 average. The CL build to similar to now (40 average), but with doubling up/down seemingly impossible to prevent but must be cut back, any rider having a PL of over 7.5 CANNOT ride in the CL. Riders can only double in PL & CL or CL & NL To keep youth coming through, natural progression of riders when good enough to move to an upper league. NL riders can only ride in CL if they have achieved a 8.5/9.00 average. To keep doubling to a minimum, 6 man teams could be used meaning team building figures drop, as this year must be the worst year for the amount of riders doubling up/down & the use/miss-use of guests. -

I could see this happening as injuries are part of our sport & to run 3 months after no replacements are allowed was a stupid rule. More so because of minimal fixtures planned because of Pairs/Cardiff, World Team Cup & 4's all in July. A date towards the end of August would have been better. Again, lack of planning & forward thinking. To cover this scenario & to stop a Lindback/Woffinden signing, cover could be granted for a 28 day period by signing a rider that has ridden in the said league(PL,CL or NL) but if the rider recovers enough to ride for any other team in any league then the rider is deemed fit and the cover removed. The rider then returns to the team or, if he refuses for any reason, r/r to be used.

Sedgeman was released by Belle Vue back in June & after being told of his release, he banged in a 10 point haul at Kings Lynn in his last match in Vue's colours.

King's Lynn Stars 2017
IronScorpion replied to Daniel Smith's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
It takes some time reading all the posts of the goings on at Ipswich & Kings Lynn & I've not started on the Holder sacked topic yet. I see that no one has replied & I found it strange about Auty. THJ has a final 2013 average of 5.69 for Poole & Auty 4.90 for Birmingham. Musielak signed for Swindon using a 2015 Wolves average. I thought, after reading through the forums this year, in that once you had achieved a 2017 average then that is used &/or converted by 1.2 depending on the league you move to. Auty, having a CL average of 6.64 from the 24/7 should be 5.53 in the PL Note... I have just noticed that Leicester used a 4.90 for team building at the start of the season but still think an actual season average should be used(grey areas/interpretations/BSPA committee members teams) Definitely need an Independent Body running speedway. -
Louis knew the rules at the start of the season as pointed out by the new low CMA for new riders taken from BSPA AGM Statement And in a bid to help young riders get team spots, any rider who hasn’t achieved a three-point average will come in on a minimum of 2. No team changes will be permitted in either league after July 31. Both rules together in the statement dated Nov 2016. taken from Rules & Reg's 16.3.4 No Team changes will be allowed after 28th July with the effective date being 31st July, except for riders returning to the Team after injury. As regards team changes, a team can make a number of changes providing the team total is below 40. if above 40 then the changes have to be like for like whether it be 1 or a multiple change.
-
Because of the number of riders doubling teams now, it is hard to arrange dates. As has been proved before when cut off dates start getting close, top teams are reluctant to arrange meetings against fellow top teams because the result can go either way. Top teams arrange games against weaker opposition because it should be easier to get points. The KO Cup is a perfect example of priority of meetings. The cup this year & previous years should be all over by July at the latest but some teams, league takes priority.

Rob always likes to throw a few red herrings in. Everything comes in 3's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Auty return, Bailey return, possible Stefan return! Rob says he has a couple of options & Stefan's twitter saying he's having physio rather than an op. Has he had a call to help us out, has he been testing the shoulder out? Another option of average fitting is Tungate. I know what people could be saying & I was one that would not like to see him in my team but.............we have to have someone. Allen didn't score well last year as no2 for Somerset, 1+1 from 4 rides
-
Rob Godfrey is saying that the signing will keep Tero at reserve & is hoping the new rider scores 6-8 points. That, to me, would be difficult as it would depend on where he would ride but my guess is no2. This is hard in itself as he will be riding with a heat leader (no1) 3 times & against a heat leader 3 times. Rob is still hoping our top 4 of Kerr, Auty, Toft & Douglas will score the points but we have been waiting all season. At most sometimes 2 have scored well, 3 rarely & all 4 never. It would have been interesting if we had gone for the big no1 as if it proved to be successful, it would show him the direction to take in 2018. It was interesting reading in our telegraph the reasons why we have struggled this year & the reasons were similar to other teams, injuries & a difficult no1 position. Berwick & Ipswich are 2 that have suffered similar with injuries, others changed through form. We kept our team from the end of last year so everything should have been ok, but what did we do that has only been highlighted by myself as a reason. We changed the riding order pairings. Any teams best rider always rides at no1 but 2-5 can be changed to suit & this is what we did not do at any time. It might seem strange but we could have a rider order, based on riders who finished 2016 of Toft, Auty, New rider, Douglas, Kerr, Aarnio, Bailey
-
Harris in for cook & any team changes for the Scorpions will have to be checked & clarified by the powers that be before naming them. We will probably know more Saturday if people want to make plans but keep an eye on weather forecasts. Showers expected tea time but it could be similar to last weekend when it was all around us but didn't hit the track till 7pm
-
Being fit or race fit are probably 2 different levels but another name added to lower his average before going back to their no1 club in 2018. We need riders that are racing & up to speed now.
-
Nobody has gone with Wolbert this year as, has been posted pre season & throughout the season, he is just after a place to lower his average before going back to Edinburgh in 2018
-
Press & practice is basically having a spin on a slick, untraceable track in front of a few fans. The track SHOULD be prepared similar to race conditions & riders go out in their pairings. So basically, a waste of time!!!!
