  1. Agree, Västervik will need a superb performence to climb back from this hole. Dackarna seems, in contrary to previous seasons, to have kept the form entering the Play Off and with the possibility of tactical substitutions, I hold them as favourites to win it on aggregate.
  2. Sorry for a late answer, haven't spent much time in front of the computer the last three days. I'm not an expert, but we did have both machines and new shale to put on the track. Would it have been more dangerous than under normal track conditions? Well, yes, that's why the meeting was abandoned by the referee after discussion (sp?) with the team managers. Have I seen meetings been ridden in worse condition? Yes, many times in the GP's (Målilla last year for starters). I talked with the track staff today and they said it would have been really patchy, and they know best I'm sure. Oh, I can't believe those conspiracy teories. The financial losses to cancel a meeting is high, it would be suiside to cancel/postpone a meeting just for the sake of it. (I know you mean it just as a "teaser") I wish. Västervik was the far better team in the semifinals and won comfortably against us, our tail was too long to stand a chance. Can't believe I'm saying this, but GO DACKARNA in the finals!
  3. Argh, bloody wheather. That's the third time this season we've had a rain-off, and for the third time in two seasons we've had a rain-off against Västervik. I'm sick of it.
  4. Yes, it sure will be interesting. Västervik have one h*ll of a team with Chris Harris and Billy Forsberg down at reserve so they must be considered favourites in this semifinal. 5000 would be great and certainly not impossible, but the weather forecast looks awful at this moment. We'll hope for some improvement, worst case scenario could be another meeting as against Kaparna in the regular season where it was less than 800 in the attendence, with constant rain during the day and a 90 minute delay to start the meeting. Just hope that scenario is overly pessimistic.
  5. I'm almost certain that it does only apply in the WTC, not in the U21 WTC. I have noticed that in the U21 WTC Semifinals, several riders (of the main team) got replaced only to ride later on in the meeting. Jedrzejewski of Poland, Kosolapkin and Kantiukov of Russia as well as Jonasson and Gustafsson of Sweden.
  6. If it wasn't for that rain, I also feel that Valsarna would have scored enough to win on aggregate. Lejonen only had Mariusz "Super-Mario" Wegrzyk and to a lesser extent Holder and Möller while Valsarna had more riders in good form. When it was abandoned, the track looked like a mess and if the referee had forced the riders to continue, he would have endangered their lives and made himself look like an idiot. IMO, he made the right decision. Sure, they could have waited a while longer but for a long as I remained in Gislaved (45 minutes), the rain didn't stop, it actually got worse so it wouldn't have helped the meeting to be finished. No-one can say anything about the abandonment of the meeting, but the big farce is that it wasn't 100% how the aggregate score was to be calculated. It shouldn't be debatable at all.
  7. Don't know much about Saifutdinov. He did withdraw, but I don't know what kind of injury it is. Lee Richardson jumped straight up after his fall and rode his bike back into the pits. I don't think that fall did anything to him.
  8. Yes, personally I would have expected somewhere between 4500-5000. Bad luck for those who decided not to come though, the meeting in Vetlanda was excellent value. It's one of the best meetings I've seen all year, with the Jedrzejak vs Lindbäck fight in heat 8 being an absolute stunning race!
  9. Many new names there but I have heard of Jarkko Palmi. He has ridden a couple of meetings in the Swedish league for Team Dalakraft. Mika Loppi rode for the Finnish national team last year if my memory serves me, but he has only ridden two meetings this year, has he been injured or quit? (Sorry if this has been mentioned before) And one final question; Miikka Hyyryläinen...some years ago it was a 500cc rider Hyyryläinen (Marko?), any relations?

Key to a Swedish programme: S = Engine failure, F = Fell, F/U = Fell/Excluded, U = Excluded SMEDERNA - ELIT VETLANDA 40-55 (Aggregate: 74-117) Attendence: 1438 Heat details, courtesy of www.speedway.nu. Elit Vetlanda took what seems to be a comfortable win, though is was actually far from it. Smederna were only two points behind (35-37) with four heats to go, but the away team outgated Smederna in the later parts of the meeting, outscoring them 10-1 in the nomination heat in the process. Smederna (home) 40 (74) 1. Krzysztof Kasprzak 1-3-2-1*-M = 7+1 (5) 2. Mariusz Puszakowski 0-2*-2*-0 = 4+2 (4) 3. Rory Schlein 3-T-1-1-1 = 6 (5) 4. Morten Risager 1-0-0-0 = 1 (4) 5. Wieslaw Jagus 1-3-3-2-F = 9 (5) 6. Linus Eklöf 1-0-0-0 = 1 (4) 7. Robert Miskowiak 3-3-2-1*-3-0 = 12+1 (6) 8. Robert Henderson Elit Vetlanda (away) 55 (117) 1. Lee Richardson 3-1-1*-3-2* = 10+2 (5) 2. Tomasz Jedrzejak 2*-3-2-1*-2* = 10+3 (5) 3. Karol Zabik 2-1-2-0-3 = 8 (5) 4. Peter Ljung 0-F-Ef-2* = 2+1 (4) 5. Rune Holta 2*-3-3-3-3 = 14+1 (5) 6. Niklas Larsson 0-N-0-1* = 1+1 (3) 7. Lukasz Jankowski 2-3-1-2*-2 = 10+1 (5) 8. Robin Aspegren For Smederna, Kasprzak blew hot and cold, would have expected more. Puszakowski scored more than expected after some fine gates, but it won't help him to get a team place in Smederna next year I imagine. Schlein conceeded three 1-5's throughout the meeting, he simply didn't gate and even though he tried hard, he couldn't translate it into points. Anyway, he should be happy he wasn't fined for "waving" towards the referee's box all the way from the start area back to the pit after he went through the tapes in heat 6. Risager was out of depth in the body of the team. Jagus had a 'dud' start in his first and last heat but looked liked a World Champion when he did gate. Eklöf has had better meetings. Miskowiak was very good even though he did tail off towards the end, he could've been excluded for not obeying the start marshal's order a couple of times. For Elit Vetlanda, Richardson had a good evening, solid second heatleader stuff on Tuesday night. Jedrzejak gated well and rode fast on a track which suited him very well. Zabik didn't gate particulary well, but scored 8 points from number three, good enough. Ljung had a night to forget, didn't look comfortable on the track and lost some points due to that. Holta provided a skippper performence, he scored a bucket of points and helped his teammates home on many occasions. Larsson shot out of the gate in heat 11 to score a point. Jankowski gates like a rocket most of the times and puts himself in scoring positions which he usually manages to defend, just like in Eskilstuna. Man of the match: Tomasz Jedrzejak Most exciting rider: Rory Schlein CURRENT STANDING: 1. Västervik, 18, 16-0-2, 40p (+170) 2. UPCOMING MEETINGS: Quarterfinal 1, Tuesday September 11th Piraterna - Dackarna Elit Vetlanda - MasarnaAvesta Quarterfinal 2, Tuesday September 18th Dackarna - Piraterna MasarnaAvesta - Elit Vetlanda
  11. Niels-Kristian Iversen won't be in Västervik tonight. Sebastian Ulamek takes his place at #4 while Mads Korneliussen takes Ulamek's place at reserve.
  12. PREVIEW OF ROUND 18 PIRATERNA - INDIANERNA The meeting at Platenstadion is the only one in the final round that means a lot for both team, the Pirates are fighting to stay in the Play Off while The Indians are fighting to avoid relegation. Indianerna must take as many points as Kaparna (away against Hammarby) to avoid relegation, a task that certainly looks possible considering they have been strong visitors to Motala in previous years, and they may actually take the second win of the season even though Piraterna will surely be the favourites among the bookmakers. Piraterna (home) (59) 1. Grzegorz Walasek, 2. Damian Balinski, 3. Mikael Max, 4. Michal Szczepaniak, 5. Ryan Sullivan, 6. Zbigniew Suchecki, 7. Christian Ingesson, (8. David Rohlén) *-*-* HAMMARBY - KAPARNA Second place Hammarby have already secured their place in the top two for a place in the semifinal and have nothing to ride for, except their own honour and sportmanship towards Indianerna (who are fighting Kaparna to avoid relegation). The Stockholm team bolster a strong side which sees Slawomir Drabik making his debut instead of the injured Jesper B Jensen. Kaparna also bloster the strongest possible side available, but shouldn't be able to beat Hammarby and avoid relegation. Hammarby (home) (58) 1. Scott Nicholls, 2. Martin Smolinski, 3. Tomasz Gapinski, 4. Slawomir Drabik, 5. Nicki Pedersen, 6. Robert Pettersson, 7. Freddie Eriksson, (8. Kim Nilsson) Kaparna (away) (38) 1. Matej Zagar, 2. Daniel Nermark, 3. Renat Gafurov, 4. Rafal Dobrucki, 5. Kim Jansson, 6. Denis Gizatullin, 7. Dan Kjellberg, (8. Mikael Berntsson) *-*-* VÄSTERVIK - MASARNAAVESTA League leading Västervik have secured their place at the top of the standing in the regular season while MasarnaAvesta have a fourth place to defend. However, MasarnaAvesta will meet up with Elit Vetlanda in the quarterfinal despite the scoreline in Västervik, and have opted to keep Leigh Adams, Emil Saifutdinov, Billy Hamill and Simon Stead out of the line-up, instead giving Pole Maciej Kuciapa a shot at making the line-up for the upcoming Play Off. Västervik (home) (46) 1. Bjarne Pedersen, 2. Chris Harris, 3. Tomasz Chrzanowski, 4. Niels-Kristian Iversen, 5. Tomasz Gollob, 6. Sebastian Ulamek, 7. Viktor Bergström, (8. The Hallstavik team need to get one point more than Piraterna to advance to the Play Off, which doesn't look to be an easy task. Second place Dackarna are missing Fredrik Lindgren but can bolster a strong pairing at reserve instead, Swedish U21 bronze medalist Ricky Kling alongside Christian Hefenbrock. Dackarna (home) (62) 1. Hans Andersen, 2. Sebastian Aldén, 3. Peter Karlsson, 4. Lukas Dryml, 5. Andreas Jonsson, 6. Ricky Kling, 7. Christian Hefenbrock, (8. Robin Törnqvist) Rospiggarna (away) (34) 1. Greg Hancock, 2. Jonas Messing) *-*-* SMEDERNA - ELIT VETLANDA Fifth place Elit Vetlanda looks likely to advance one place in the standing, only needing the bonus point if - at the same time - Västervik beat MasarnaAvesta by (at least) six points. Elit Vetlanda have been giving Jason Crump a night off while Jaroslaw Hampel and Thomas H Jonasson are missing through injury. The home side also suffers a couple of riders on the sideline; Stefan Andersson and Krzysztof Buczkowski, the latter is riding a meeting in his native Poland. Could be an interesting meeting despite both teams being at reduced strength, two evenly matched team were Smederna could possibly suffer at second string positions. Smederna (home) (34) 1. 13. Stefan Ekberg apparently rode for Rye House instead of the Swedish Final. Sorry David, but that was one powerful jinx. (David fell in his first ride and aggrivated and old injury and had to withdraw. Reserve Linus Lydin of Rospiggarna stepped in at his place and scored 10 points to finish fourth overall! Not bad as he started the meeting at reserve, just shows that being a reserve can take you places sometimes, even though it's on somebody's expense.)
  14. Yes, Forsberg picked up some grip on the first/second bend and went into Thomas H Jonasson's back wheel and they both went down heavily. Billy withdrew straight away but Jonasson tried for a couple of more heats but had to withdrew as well, after his third ride, due to headache. Hopefully he will feel fine to race today. BTW, CONTRATULATIONS TO ROBBAN PETTERSSON! A well deserved win, he was the best on the night. The Youth Final 80cc is at 1200 local time on Saturday, just two hours away. The weather in Hallsberg (where I'm staying at the excellent Hotell Stinsen) is great; sunshine and blue sky. FIM champion Anders Mellgren will definitely be hard to beat at his home track, but overall the meeting is wide open with at least 10 riders capable of taking a place on the rostrum. David Nilsen of MasarnaAvesta have a good draw (two inside gates) and could be a surprise package.
  15. The final on Friday night is the Swedish Junior Championship Final. The final on Saturday afternoon is the Swedish Championship Final (regardless of age). They have, alongside Thomas H Jonasson, qualified for both finals. Nothing strange, just as Kennett, Bridger, King etc. rode in the British Final at Monmore Green despite being juniors (as well as they rode in the Junior Final in Eastbourne).
  16. Thomas didn't have a particulary good meeting in Kumla, scoring 3 points, X-0-0-2-1, in five rides. But he looked reasonably fast througout the meeting but didn't make a gate all night which normally is his strong point, as you witnessed in Stockholm.
  17. I still feel we threw several points away on the second bend on Tuesday night as we drifted too wide letting Hammarby riders through on the inside. Overall, we should have at least hit mid-40 points (or preferably 46 points so my +6 handicap bet on Elit Vetlanda had been successful). Over the course of the entire meeting, we were beaten by a far better team while I guess you feel Hammarby throw away the entire meeting in Vetlanda back in June, leading up until the nomination heats but losing in a last heat decider. So to answer your question; I guess not. No, we stood on the second bend.
  18. A short match report from Hammarby - Elit Vetlanda: HAMMARBY - ELIT VETLANDA 56-39 (Aggregate: 103-88) Attendence: 2312 Hammarby (home) 56 (103) 1. Scott Nicholls Ef-2*-R-1*-2*-3 = 8+3 (6) 2. Tomasz Gapinski 2-2-3-3-3-0 = 13 (6) 3. Jesper B Jensen R/R (2,3,R,1) 4. Martin Smolinski Ef-1-3-0-1-2* = 7+1 (6) 5. Nicki Pedersen 3-3-3-3-3-3 = 18 (6) 6. Robert Pettersson 0-N-N-N = 0 (1) 7. Freddie Eriksson 2-1-1-0-2-3 = 9 (6) 8. Kim Nilsson 1 = 1 (1) Elit Vetlanda (away) 39 (88) 1. Jason Crump 3-0-1*-0-Ef = 4+1 (5) 2. Karol Zabik Fx-2-2-1*-1 = 6+1 (5) 3. Lee Richardson 3-1-2-0-1* = 7+1 (5) 4. Peter Ljung 1-2-0-N = 3 (3) 5. Rune Holta 2-2-3-2-1-2 = 12 (6) 6. Niklas Larsson N-N-N-N = 0 (0) 7. Thomas H Jonasson 3-0-0-1*-0-2 = 6+1 (6) 8. Robin Aspegren 1-0 = 1 (2) Second place Hammarby took all three points off Elit Vetlanda last night, in a meeting which started with a 11-6 lead for Elit Vetlanda (partially due to two Ef's at the gate for the home side). Nicki Pedersen won heat four as he started to turn the meeting around for Hammarby and his outstanding performance was well backed-up by the remaining riders as they crusied away with two 5-1's in heats 14 & 15. For Hammarby, Nicholls had a couple of good heats but wasn't as convincing as in Daugavpils. Gapinski was excellent as always against Elit Vetlanda, an underrated rider overall. Smolinski fought hard for his points and I couldn't believe he had only scored a paid eight when the meeting ended, worth much more and if he had scored a paid eleven (instead of Nicholls) I wouldn't have complained. Pedersen was so much better than all the others that it looked ridiculous. Pettersson only had one ride, I won't judge him on that. Eriksson just doesn't make many gates but he tries hard as always and is definitely a solid reserve at the Gubbängen track. Nilsson did his job in his only ride. For Elit Vetlanda, Crump wasn't on the pace! Zabik looked fast all night but met Nicki three times and fell in his other heats, that limited his scoring. Richardson was OK even though he can do better. Ljung gated very well but lost many points as he rode too wide, especially on the second bend. Holta provided a skipper performence, lead by example and rode his heart out to earn his points. Jonasson did a good job but lost some silly points in heat 10 when he locked-up to go from a paid win to last. Aspegren took a convincing point in heat 2 and ended the meeting with a 1-1 score against the opposition junior(s). Man of the match: Nicki Pedersen Most exciting rider: Martin Smolinski Finally, congratulations to Liverstam and other Hammarby fans on a fully deserved victory. (Ouch, that hurt! )
  19. Couldn't agree more. Both in 2005 (Vetlanda) and 2006 (Motala), the Junior Final has been one of the best meetings I've seen during each season, and by far the best of the three meetings in the championship weekend. Many riders can win the Junior Final but based on Billy Forsberg's impressive display in Kumla yesterday (Indianerna - Västervik league meeting), he must be considered a favourite for the title. Ricky Kling, Thomas H Jonasson and Simon Gustafsson will battle for the other places on the podium. Can't wait for Friday!
  20. The following line-ups have been nominated by the team managers for tonight: MASARNAAVESTA (50) 1. Dave Watt, 2. Antonio Lindbäck, 3. Simon Stead, 4. Emil Saifutdinov, 5. Leigh Adams, 6. Steve Johnston, 7. Linus Sundström, ( 8. Dennis Andersson ) KAPARNA (46) 1. Daniel Nermark, 2. Krystian Klecha, 3. Rafal Dobrucki, 4. Renat Gafurov, 5. Kim Jansson, 6. Denis Gizatullin, 7. Dan Kjellberg, ( 8. Mikael Berntsson ) Antonio Lindbäck will be missing from MasarnaAvesta, but the team haven't declared if it will be R/R or a squad rider. *-*-* DACKARNA (55) 1. Hans Andersen, 2. Niklas Larsson ) Hammarby will, according to their website, use R/R for Jesper B Jensen who aggrivated an injury while riding in Poland on Sunday.
  21. Yes, it was several good heats throughout. - Lampart/Les managed to keep Holder behind in the opening heat. - Crump passing between Dobrucki and Nicholls on the second bend of lap two in heat 10. WOW! - Dobrucki riding his socks off to keep tactical substituion Crump and reserve change Holder at the back in heat 12. - Dobrucki riding his socks off (again!) to catch tactical joker Bjerre in heat 14, without luck this time. Good meeting!
  22. I have scrolled through the comments from last night's Grand Prix and was surprised that it took so long for people to mention him. Fully agree with you Jancarz, he did really add something. Well done Laguta! Overall a decent meeting I think, certainly much better than last year's meeting in Daugavpils which wasn't any good if my memory serves me.
  23. ELIT VETLANDA - MASARNAAVESTA 59-37 (104-88) Attendence: 3606 Elit Vetlanda took a comfortable win against MasarnaAvesta in a meeting that perhaps wasn't the best of the year in Vetlanda, but provided some good heats anyway. The exceptional Russian talant Emil Saifutdinov got stuck in most of the action on the night but the away side lacked top end fire power (Leigh Adams) to trouble last years champions Elit Vetlanda on Tuesday night. Elit Vetlanda (home) 59 (104) 1. Jason Crump 2*-2*-3-1-2* = 10+3 (5) 2. Peter Ljung 3-0-3-1-2* = 9+1 (5) 3. Lee Richardson 3-2-2*-Ef-3 = 10+1 (5) 4. Tomasz Jedrzejak 1-M-3-1 = 5 (4) 5. Rune Holta 3-3-3-3-3 = 15 (5) 6. Thomas H Jonasson 3-0-3-0-3 = 9 (5) 7. Robin Aspegren 0-N-0-1 = 1 (3) 8. Niklas Larsson MasarnaAvesta (away) 37 (88) 1. Antonio Lindbäck 0-3-2-1*-3-1 = 10+1 (6) 2. Ales Dryml 1-1-N-0-0 = 2 (4) 3. Simon Stead 0-1-N-N = 1 (2) 4. Emil Saifutdinov 2-1*-Ef-1*-2*-1 = 7+3 (6) 5. Dave Watt 2-1-2-2-2-0 = 9 (6) 6. Linus Sundström 1*-N-N-0 = 1+1 (2) 7. Steve Johnston 2-1*-2-0-2-0 = 7+1 (6) 8. Dennis Andersson For Elit Vetlanda, Crump did what could be expected, although beaten by Watt once. Brings the points as well as good leadership quality. Ljung was up and down but has made a reasonable comeback from injury and is getting better for each heat. Richardson was good as a third heat leader, blew an engine while third (on a 1-5 against) in heat 13. Jedrzejak usually has one good heat/win per meeting, this one wasn't an exception. Holta, well, untouchable is the only word I can think of. Jonasson has had a slump for a period due to slow machinery and bad gates but is looking to be on his way back, was in contention even when he didn't score. Aspegren had a paid win in his third ride but locked up on lap two to slip to third, but I'm happy he did score a point and contributed to the victory. For MasarnaAvesta, Lindbäck had one of his better meetings in Vetlanda, though not on par with GP colleagues Crump and Holta. Dryml improved as the meeting went along despite what the score says, but I had expected more from the former Vetlanda rider. Stead lost his engine somewhere between London, Copenhagen and Linköping and he couldn't do himself justice on whatever bike/engine he rode on. Saifutdinov fought well and deserved what he got, always mixing it with the home riders, what a 17 year old! Watt had a good meeting despite being winless in six rides, the fastest one of the away riders. Sundström had 1-1 against Aspegren so did his job. Johnston didn't gate particulary well but shipped in with some points. Man of the match: Rune Holta Most exciting rider: Emil Saifutdinov

Andreas Messing 1-0-N-1 = 2 (3) 8. Jonas Messing Run-off for bonus point: Rune Holta, Greg Hancock Elit Vetlanda took the lead in heat 3 with a Richardson/Jedrzejak 5-1 and were always in command after that. Rospiggarna, lead by captain fantastic Greg Hancock, fought hard to keep it close and a successful tactical substitute in heat 13 cut the home lead to only two points, 40-38. Two consecutive 5-1's in heats 14 & 15 sealed two points for Elit Vetlanda but Greg Hancock forced a run-off for the bonus points as he beat Crump/Holta in heat 16. In heat 17 though, Rune Holta made the gate and defeated Hancock for the second time on the night. For Elit Vetlanda, Crump was good but probably not 100% fit after his surgery. Zabik blew a bit hot and cold but delievered two crucial double victories throughout the night. Richardson had an solid point production so was OK, but his exclusion could have been costly for the home side. Jedrzejak lacks speed but at least he is fighting. Holta did a good job and won some points from the back. Jankowski started slow overall but blasted past McGowan and Messing in the second reserve heat for a paid win. Jonasson was extremely unlucky, he blew two engines but came out on Holta's spare bike and won heat 11. For Rospiggarna, Hancock was excellent, sharp from the gate as usual and kept Rospiggarna in the meeting for as long as he could. Miedzinski was always in contention for the points. Kolodziej was somewhat better than the score suggests but lacked speed to match the home riders. Skornicki had a couple of gifted points. Davidsson had a couple of 'dud' heats but proved how good he can be as he held off Crump ni heat 10. McGowan rode much better in Vetlanda last year, didn't do much this time, at least not considering he was at reserve. Messing had a night to forget. Man of the match: Greg Hancock Most exciting rider: Thomas H Jonasson (as he turned Adam Skornicki inside out on the last bend in heat 5 despite losing his steel shoe earlier in the heat) *-*-* CURRENT STANDING: 1.
